Ticket name issue. Is this a problem?

I just booked airline tickets for myself, my son, and my mother. I booked the ticket for my mom under the name that she always goes by, which is her first name and our last name (my late father's name). She has been remaried for several years, but has never used his last name. However, I just found out that her last name on her driver's license is actually hypenated using both last names.

So, as an example, her ticket is booked with a last name of Brown, but her last name on her ID shows Brown-Smith.

Is this a problem? Is there anything I can do to fix it? Or am I freaking out over nothing?

I think you need to call the airline. The name on the ticket and the ID is supposed to match.

My DH's 1st name is Linden. So is my 1st sons. So when they issued us our tickets my husband was Landen and my son was Linden. We went through Travelocity (which we will NEVER go through again...) and they are the ones who booked our airline. So between them and the ariline, the typo occured. I called the airline and they said they cannot issue another ticket, but not to worry. Everything SHOULD be fine. Nobody ever said anything and it did work out fine. BUT..I was a little nervous.

I guess there are regulations about changing ticket names - I guess so people cannot transfer tickets to each other.

Hmmm. Well, now I'm not sure what I need to do. Like I said, the last name on her ticket says "Brown" - and her ID says "Brown-Smith". I was hoping that since "Brown" was on her ID, just with another hypenated name added to it, that it would be ok. Any other thoughts?

GEM ~ I booked a ticket for my mom to FL last year and for some reason I booked it under the wrong last name. My dad has been gone for 10 years and my mom has been re-married for several years so I guess I must have been thinking of my dad that day. Anyway, I called the airline and they told me to have my mom bring her marriage certificate which shows both the former last name and her current last name. I went to the airport with her just to make sure she didn't have any problems and they took a quick look at the marriage certificate and that was it. You may want to call and see if a copy of her marriage certificate will be enough. HTH help. Good luck. :)

At work, our administrative assistant booked a flight under by maiden name after I had been married. I just had to carry a copy of my marriage license with me. They did look at it at the security check point. It was not a problem. :thumbsup2

Call the airline... Advice on here is not going to help if we are wrong... (Do you really want to be standing at check in saying "The DIS members said it was OK"?) Rules vary by airline and to be honest by the folks checking ID. ONe of my co-workers had to fight to get on last week because he couldn't get the TSA agent to realize that they were reading his MIDDLE name on his DL not his LAST name....
