Ticket for Downtown Disney

Its been about 12 years since I have been to Disney and this question might be asked somewhere else, sorry if it has. My question is do you have to have tickets to get into Downtown Disney?

Thats why we always end up there the first day or last day so as to not waste a day

It's just a big, open-air area with shops and restaurants.

thank you all for the quick responses. i kinda of thought that but since we haven't been there in so long, things change. I was going to do the same as "thegib95" spoke of. Since arriving on a Sunday eve(driving from Mississippi) we would just drop in at Downtown and start the Theme Parks the next day!

Pleasure Island USED to have a cover charge to enter. They did away with that and subsequently did away with the clubs that had a cover charge. Marketplace and West Side are free for anyone to spend money, including free parking, but a few items, namely Cirque Du Soleil and DisneyQuest have admission fees.
