Ticket expiration confusion

I've done a search, but the results are hit and miss.

I had to postpone a trip in April.

Our tickets were set to expire on 1/14/21. That still shows on MDE as the expiration date. However, I just spoke with a phone rep and he said (as I thought as well) that tickets were extended until Sept 2021.

I also received an email response that said my tickets will still expire on 1/14/21.

I am confused.

I know the value of unused tickets remain and I can apply that towards new tickets. We will be going in 2021, I just don't know when. If I don't have to go through the hassle of exchanging tickets, that would be great.

Anyone have any info that might be able to help?

Thanks!

I think the phone rep is right. From the Disneyworld website:

Tickets
Partially used multi-day theme park tickets with a usage window impacted by park closure, or date-specific theme park tickets purchased through June 6, 2020 with a valid use period beginning March 12, 2020 or later, will automatically be extended to use any date through September 26, 2021. If you are unable to visit by September 26, 2021, you may apply the value of a wholly unused ticket toward the purchase of a ticket for a future date.

Here's the link:

A trip for April 2020 was postponed, or a trip for April 2021 is being postponed? When did you purchase these tickets?

Tickets purchased prior to or during the shutdown were extended to 9/26/2021. Tickets purchased after the re-opening this past summer do not get the extension.

In either event, a fully-unused but expired ticket will retain value towards a new ticket in the future. I would try to make a park reservation for summer/Sept 2021 to see if the tickets are valid.

That's probably it right there.

We bought the tickets in June of 2019, so they were, I guess, technically valid before 3/12/2020.

I was just hoping to avoid having to call in and swap everything, but it appears that's what I'll need to do.

Thanks!

Please let us know how it turns out.

You bought them before 3/12/20 so you should fit the the "Bought prior to 3/12/20" bucket and have the 9/26/21 expiration date. I would certainly call on it

I was in a similar predicament - if your tickets expire on 1/14/21, I assume that they are flexible-date tickets, right?

I eventually ended up calling and talking to 4 different CM's. I got 3 different stories by the first 3 CMs and was a little bit skeptical of all of their answers, until I finally talked to a CM that made sense.

Turns out, the extension until September 2021 only applies for certain circumstances/tickets and flexible-date tickets don't count, so we ended up paying to extend our 5, 5-day non-park-hopper tickets until 1/14/22, but it only ended up costing about $120-ish to extend those tickets for a year.

This sounds like our situation.

While, yes, $120 isn't a lot to "extend" 5 tickets, it still sucks that Disney is going to somehow get more money out of us because we couldn't use tickets while the parks were closed and didn't rebook our trip fast enough.

And it really sucks to have to pay more for less. Hopefully by the time we get there next year, things will be somewhat back to "normal".

Yes, I totally agree. We won't be using our tickets until WDW is "normal" again. Even if we have to pay again to extend to 2022.
