Ticket Confusion

I'm planning on going to WDW in October and purchasing a 3 day Base ticket. I'll be buying it through Disney and will link the ticket to MDE so I can do FP+. I already have a magic band from a previous trip. If I should cancel my trip what happens to the ticket?
I'm sure this has been asked before but can't find the answer.

It stays on your MDE account. You can have tickets on there with no room booked.

Thank you for this info. Do you know if there is an expiration for them? Would I have to use the ticket within a year or 2 years?

Unused tickets don't expire.

FYI: You can save a little money by buying your tickets from an authorized reseller like Undercover Tourist or Maple Leaf tickets.
