My thyroid blood test came back today at 1.23, last years test (exactly a year ago) was 2.74, normal falls between 0.34-5.60.
Just wondering if the reason I could be more sluggish and my skin seems more dry (although it could just be the freezing cold weather and the indoor heat :rotfl:) would be a result of the 1.23 reading vs the 2.74.
I take synthroid right now, wonder why my numbers changed so much in just a year :confused3?
Can anyone explain this to me???

No. The lower your TSH is the more "hyper" your thyroid is. You should feel "peppier" with the lower TSH...

Have you changed dosages?

I have an underactve thyroid and my endocrinologist and PCP try to keep me around 1. Did you take Syntroid when you had your last test? If not, that could account for the difference.

I do not find this to be the case, and my endocrinologist has never indicated such a thing to be true. I am hyper thyroid and am very sluggish when my TSH drops. I feel "peppier" when my numbers are higher/normal. One of the side effects of low TSH is a rapid heartbeat - but a peppy heart does not translate into a peppy person. I would check with your doctor about changing your dosage. Good luck! I know how much it stinks to have little energy...

The symptoms you are having, if related to thyroid function, are indicative of hypothyroidism, but your TSH does not correlate.
Incorrect dosage of synthetic drugs can also mimic symptoms of the opposite diagnosis. That is the first thing I would check. It may just be that you need a medication adjustment, although your TSH is considered a normal number.

I now take 100 mg of synthroid. When I had my blood work done last year I was taking the 75 mg. I bet thats why the number is different.

My numbers changed like that too. My thyroid is underactive. I am also a diabetic. So, I see the same endocrinologist for both at the same appts. We always check my thyroid before my appts. When I went to my last I explained to her that I always seemed tired and very sluggish and that my feet were swelling for some reason. We checked my numbers and sure enough, they were up. We changed my dose and I have been ok ever since. Infact....I have an appt coming up in a few weeks again. It'll be interesting where I am at now. My mom, sister, grandma and aunt all have thyroid problems too.

What number do you usually feel your best at?

Are you taking the same dose of synthroid that you took last year? Gained or lost weight? Maybe you are lacking T3? Did you get the T3 done along with your TSH.....if that is off maybe the endo could give you some cytomel, or switch you to Armour (which I take)
Because of my thyroid cancer I need to keep my TSH level at just under .01, which is a tad hyper, but I never feel "hyper" or full of energy. The cold weather tends to make me feel very sluggish and I struggle with this every winter...so maybe that is what is doing it to you as well.

The high range of normal is now 3.?? not 5.?? any longer. My guess is your Dr altered your dosage to get you more in the middle. Your symptoms could be related to something else. I have been hearing more and more about Vitamin D deficiency, symptoms are very similar. That could be a possibility. You might want to call your dr and ask.
