For those just back, how long and at what time have the daily thunderstorms lasted? Is it the fast hour storms or all day rain? Thanks

It is the typical afternoon summer rain in Central FL. I don't know if you can predict the exact times. Certain parts of WDW may get rain while the other parts don't.

www.wftv.com is a great local weather station.

We did have quite a few days lately of all day rain because of the tropical storm.

I wouldn't exactly call rain in central Florida "summer rain". At least not the summer rain i've experienced anywhere else. In central Florida, rain in the summer is a deluge of biblical proportions, with the sky opening up and releasing a wall of water (if you're driving, you will not be able to see, no matter how fast your windshield wipers are going)..
the torrential rains, which only last about an hour, if that long, are usually accompanied by a sound and light show that has to be seen to be believed.

I wouldn't call that a summer rain. But no, it doesn't last for hours. It's only an hour or two, and usually in the afternoon. And unlike other summer rains, it doesn't break the heat and humidity.

The times vary as to how long they last. Some are 5 minutes and then occasionaly they are up to 2-3 hours long. This Saturday we had a thunderstorm hit, 10-15 minutes of really bad rain and then an hour later it was sunny outside with very few clouds. Two hours later and you couldn't tell it had rained.

we just got back this weekend and it stormed everyday we were there. There were several house fires due to lightning strikes. That said, we were really good at working around them! We would plan our main meal around the middle of the day, so most days we were just entering the resturant as the storms were starting and by the time we finished our meal, the storms were ending. One day when we were at DTD we had lunch at house of blues and when we finished we saw that the rain wasn't letting up, we ran over to the movie theater and watched a movie. By the time it was over, the sun was out and it was back to vacation! Usually we don't let a little rain stop us, but this trip there was much more lightning which is why we didn't try to keep going outside.

It's too difficult to predict the weather out here, really. I looked outside yesterday morning & it looked like it was going to rain, but soon after there was more blue sky than clouds. So, I sent DH outside to trim the front yard tree.

And then it started pouring when he was almost finished, even with the blue skies.

I never said I was a weatherman. :rolleyes1

But when it does rain, it's pretty quick (I think most storms last about an hour max---yesterday's downpour was only 5 minutes, yet still managed to register on my rain gauge, so it was a good amount of water in those 5 min!). And soon after, you'd never know it rained.

Just be prepared (ponchos or whatever)....and if you hear lightning, duck into a building pretty quick. We're not known for being the lightning capital for nothing. :rotfl2: I'm always amazed at the number of people who argue about the resort pools closing when a storm pops up..... :sad2:

Yesterday afternoon at Epcot we had a quick 5 minute sprinkle around 1pm. Then it stopped. Then we started to hear thunder around 2pm. We headed home. Where we live, we didn't have any storms or showers.

We were there 6/2 - 6/9.

I am trying to estimate from the top of my head - I did not keep a journal.

6/2 - light rainfall around 10:30 and it stopped around 11:00.
6/3 - rained off an on all day. Several 5 minutes downpours throughout the day, light rain the rest of the day.
6/4 - rained around 4:00 - downpour for 5 minutes, sprinkle for 15 more
6/5 - rained around 4:00 - downpour for 10 minutes - sprinkle for 10 more
6/6 - rained around 4:00 - downpour for 20 minutes - sprinke for 10 more
6/7 - rained around 4:00 - downpour for 10 minutes - sprinkle for 10 more
6/8 - rained around 2:00 ( I think)
6/9 - this is the day we left and until we left Orlando at 3:15 - it had rained all day long. I think there was a brief period (10 minutes) where it quit raining around 11:00.
