Thunder Mountain and Dinosaur Refurb

Bummer BTMRR will be closed for both our August and our October trips! At least, Dinosaur will be back up in October, not sure why really but we love!! Love! That ride.

We are bummed about it, too- BTMRR is a top favorite and if IASW is also closed- we will be really sad. IASW was closed our last trip in 2010, too. I know there are still a lot of other things to do, but it is sad when 2 favorites are down! I could take or leave Dinosaur, but my older kiddos were really looking forward to it, too.

I am also super bummed about them both. I'm also worried about Small World since it keeps getting put on the refurb list and then taken back off.

I can usually deal with multiple refurbs, but I just don't understand how they can schedule a refurb for Dinosaur the same summer they're trying to convince people that AK and his few rides can be a full day park. Dinosaur is the second headliner of AK, and one of the few thrills rides still available at Disney World. Animal Kingdom will only have 5 rides (if you count Primeval Whirl) open this summer, but his hours are extended as much as for the Magic Kingdom. For me, this refurb at that time of the year is a huge mistake.

Gutted

BTTMR is my favourite ride in Magic Kingdom and for it to be closed on what looks to be my last trip for a very long time i am gutted ... Oh well Universal will have the Hulk back and stuff so can just look forward to Universal more

So disappointed too! Also, I just read this morning that Small World refurb is on for Aug 22-Sept 16th. It was on and off the refurb schedule, but now it is defiantly on. Bummer, 3 of my families favs.

We have a mid-September trip planned as a surprise for our girls...the 8 year old is gonna be kinda bummed when she finds out about BTMRR. Obviously she'll get over it since she's being surprised with a trip to DISNEY WORLD but still, it's one of her favorites. During our big Thanksgiving trip with extended family, she and I went had an evening (just the two of us) during MK EMH without her dad or younger sister, and we rode it over and over again. It was our last night and so special! She talks about seeing the castle from that ride all the time.

I can't decide if I'm bummed about Small World, or happy. It's that ride for me that I never really enjoy, but feel like I have to do it:) I am curious about the new signs at the end, but this closure won't really bother anyone on our trip.

Really hate to see these closed for our trip! Reports originally said that small world and Swiss family tree house were down for the first of September, but now some places have those off the list. So, who knows what the real list looks like. Unfortunately, I do believe that Thunder will be down this time. Was happy to see it on the refurb list for April, but got super bummed when they moved it.

It does seem like a bad time. A few things I read seems like they couldn't push it off anymore and thing needed to be fixed.

The park has all sorts or new stuff the keep the public interested though. Even if ROL doesn't open for a while, just having a chance to see the tree lit and the night safari will be a draw. More so than seeing Dinosaur at night.

Also effected by the BTM closure in early Nov. I haven't had the pleasure of Seven Dwarves yet, so hoping it will act as a decent substitute until my next trip! D:

Dinosaur won't be closing until after the night time activities are introduced. The BTMRR refurb had already been pushed back, and this Dinosaur refurb wasn't known months in advance like most refurbs. That with the ride constantly being down and animatronics sometimes not working, they seem to be putting the refurb off as long as they can to let the night time activities start before they close Dinosaur. I don't think this refurb is to touch up some paint, I think it's to fix some much needed issues.

Really in the end, they can't put it off until the slow time because there is no slow time anymore. And no matter when they close it, it will affect someone's trip.

I'm going Aug 23 to Sept 5, and am in the same boat with OP.

BTMR
Dinosaur
Small World
Swiss Family TreeHouse

I'm new to this, but I feel like that is a lot of refurbs at one time. I hope they postpone one of the first three. I won't be picky as to which one.

It is so frustrating, all the things you mentioned will be down during our trip along with Muppetvision which is down from Aug 15-Aug22. I totally agree that it seems like a lot of rides/attractions down at once.

I just heard Splash was evacuated last night due to some mechanical sensor issues. Hope they don't decide to refurb that one too!!!!!

I'm sad about btmrr. I really liked to ride that during mnsshp. I'm not counting on it, but I'm hoping the rehab ends early. I'm anticipating that having that down is going to increase the wait time for Splash and other rides.
We're skipping AK this trip, so Dinosaur wasn't in the cards anyway.
Fingers crossed, it looks like we're going to miss IASW refurb. Thank goodness!!! That is my mom's absolute favorite ride.

What do you guys find to be the most comprehensive, up to date refurb list these days??

Both are closed during our trip as well. BTMRR is a major bummer because it's one of our favourites. Dinosaur, I would always do this ride, but it's just okay for me, so it won't be that misssed. Last year was PoTC and that was a tough one to miss out on as well.

There will always be something down for refurb at any given time, it's to be expected with a park that is open 365 days a year, it just can't be avoided. I do get it though and also get bummed with some of them, but I just roll with it. Fortunately, we are yearly visitors, so I know I'll catch it the next time around.

Ohhhh Noooo, my favorite ride at WDW, BTMRR!

Only way to handle this is to start planning another trip.

I don't understand why they are closing it at that time when there are times of the year that are less busy.

It's a lengthy refurb so there's no good time. The only other time of year that would be comparable as far as how busy/not busy it is would be January/February, but that's typically when the Splash Mountain refurb is and they probably wouldn't close both at the same time.
