Maybe the gaming the system is more about paying for one night and being able to make FP+ reservations for many more than that and possibly getting free parking for more days than the reservation warrants. In the past people paid for rooms at All Star resorts to get free dining but never stayed in the rooms - but they had to pay for all the nights.

That's true of any room reservation regardless of whether you "occupied" the room or not. The ability to do so is determined by the number of days your tickets cover, not how many nights you've stayed onsite.

Buy 10 day tickets, stay onsite 5 nights and offsite 5 nights, you still get to reserve FP's online for the full 10 days.

wow...I've pretty much been ignoring anything to do with MB and fp+....this is interesting....:stir: So it sounds to me like a loophole in Disney new systom,obviously...if I can pay for one night in a room, and park for free for a week....back in the day:rotfl: I thought parking passes had a checkin/checkout date printed on them...:confused3
As far as MB use,It sounds to me like this is on Disney itself.... and I'm guessing this whole new fp system is a way for them to keep tabs on visitors/encourage onsite stays...... so it seems to me in general, Disney is getting what it aimed for, more onsite PAID visitors..... I get what pp's are asying about availability....but overall, if one person pays for a room, no matter how much/little time they spend there, the bottom line is they paid for it...so it's not available to someone else. Since I didn't know/care before what each person did with their room res.,why should it matter to me now?
FWIW, I stay onsite and use what's available to me, I don't know that all this fancy footwork is worth it.....but that's just MHO;)

good to know, if I ever need this info.....:worship:

There is nothing wrong with booking a room with no intentions to use it. Disney allows it and it's legal. If Disney allows people to book more FP+ than they have nights booked, that's their prerogative as well. This might all be part of the design of FP+, not a glitch or a loophole. It's a good way to sell a lot of value-room nights.

I seriously can't believe that no one other than Cals_dad sees anything wrong with booking a room or campsite that you're not going to use, which could prevent someone who actually plans on using it from booking it. :sad2:

I am confused as to what is wrong with buying and paying for an item and not using it. :confused3 It is paid for...either way the company is compensated. Have you ever gone grocery shopping and it says buy any 5 of this item and get a $5 gc. Other than to get the perk you would not have purchased 5 and that is too many for your family and you end up tossing or not using one b/c you didn't really want it. Does the company care...they got there money and you don't care you got your perk. Once you buy something it is yours to do what you want within reason. No where on WDW website does it say if you book a room at their resort you must sleep in it. Only that you pay for it and return it upon checkout in a certain way. If I want to rent a hotel room and use it to house the kids stuff animals while we all stay off site that is our prerogative. If I have the money to waste on an unused hotel room to get a perk that is well within my rights and not unethical...IMO of course.;)

That's the mantra I keep saying in my head over and over when I read these boards. I teach 6th grade, and overheard one of my students say, "but it's okay unless you get caught, and then you just tell them it's my life". This is a sad, sorry world we're raising ourselves in. People keep wondering where the "magic" went, it got pushed out by the "me" mentality

That statement is usually used when you are doing some illegal or against their parents rules...stealing candy, clothes, sneaking out, driving while texting.

I wouldn't put that statement as relevant to this b/c what can you be caught doing? You think if a CM "catches" you not staying in the room you will be "in trouble". Will they tell you were wrong...ask you to not do it again. I gurantee I call WDW and ask if I can book and pay for a hotel room and not sleep there...they will happily take the money. They may think I am wasting money and so may people on this board, but people have totally different views on what is wasting money. Paying for deluxe, paying for a tour, paying for organic...the list is endless. Some people stay off site for space not for financial reasons and have no problem paying for a night in a hotel they won't use to get a perk. I am sure WDW will gladly take my money. :goodvibes

Please don't do this. It is very disheartening to try and book a site to actually go camping, see everything is booked solid, and then hear from people there that a a lot of sites sit empty.

As someone who has done some camping at Disney, it is very upsetting to be told that the campsites are all sold out and to then drive thru and see empty sites. Your one night "throwaway" reservation could mean a week of lost reservations. Most people don't go camping for only one night.

And for all those using the "loophole", Disney will catch on soon and just impose more and more restrictions on FPs, MBs, parking, etc, etc. It just takes a few people to ruin it for the rest of the guests. (Free drink refills anyone?)

What's wrong is booking one night and then getting 10 days of free parking and FP+ simply because you found a loophole. You want the 10 days of free parking, then pay for the 10 nights. It's only a matter of time until Disney finds out about this lost revenue on parking and will do something about it.

I never said anything about parking. You get a pass marked with dates of your stay. If someone tries to use it or a PA at the booth lets you through that is on you. That I personally wouldn't do because that is against the policy stated on their website. Free parking is stated for length of your stay. No where does it say FP+ is only for the length of stay...it says length of tickets. I was talking about booking a room and not sleeping in it to get a perk. Now if I want to book a room for 7 days to get 7days of free parking again, my money my right!

So is it wrong to buy the refillable mug b/c I like the way it looks and then not use it to drink soda . I mean WDW must want me to actually use it since I purchased it. I could have gotten the last mug and now someone who wanted to actually drink something may not be able to...right?

Take a chill pill. If you want to pay for 7 nights and get your 7 free parking days, I don't care. But there've been others on this thread that mentioned buying only one day and getting multiple free parking days out of it. That's just wrong. And that's what my post was saying.

And I'll say it again: Disney will catch on soon enough...

:rotfl2: I'm not even upset, but OK chill pill has been taken:cool2:

I was referring to the days pre-RFID refillable mugs. When people would bring in old mugs and keep using them. They knew it was wrong, but did it anyways. Did the CMs ever mention it? No. But it wasn't right. Eventually Disney recognized the lost revenue and changed the system. Eventually it'll happen with the free parking too. Parking is a huge source of revenue for them and they aren't gonna let that one slide.

Again, I ask..... how long do I need to "occupy" my reservation so as not to upset you? Because, whether I "use" it or not, anybody who reserves a campsite for just one night has potentially created the condition causing you such grief.

Not the same. Nobody is talking about paying for a one night reservation and then going back and using that same room or campsite again weeks, months, or years later.

Key word lost revenue...Disney is gaining revenue from this. Loophole...me thinks not!;) Disney is laughing all the way to the bank that people will pay for and not use space at their hotel to get something that costs them virtually nothing.

Also I was using that comparison not b/c of the change, but as another example of something WDW offers for people to buy to be used. I decide I didn't want to use it...is it wrong? What is WDW offers a free meet and greet with Cinderella in her suite if you purchase $500 fireworks cruise out on the lagoon. I get seasick and don't like cruises, but I really want that M&G...so I buy the cruise and don't use it and still go to the M&G....is that wrong?

The length of the stay you're intending to use your "perks". Anything beyond this is stealing, even if Disney hasn't caught on yet.

I can't believe the people who are trying to justify this loophole. :sad2:

I can't believe you think it's a loophole and don't understand my point. Even if I slept in a tent the entire night, if it was just for one night I've created the exact situation that makes you so upset - I've destroyed the ability of that "spot" to be reserved by the same party for a complete week.

This could actually hurt Disney financially, at least at FW. If someone books one night at the campground, they in effect make the site useless for those who want to stay for a week. I think that the spot has a greater chance of sitting empty when it is booked for say just a Wednesday or Thursday.

There are no rules against it though. Maybe Disney will come up with a minimum stay just as some other campgrounds have.

What if I wanted to give my kids a fun Disney camping experience b/c they would like it I could rent a site for a night so my DH could take them while I enjoy the comforts of my rental or hotel. They love camping, I do not. Is that wrong? I am sure this has even been done, especially if you drive.

I do see how a site could be useless, but aren't there lots of people who vacation from Wed. to Wed. so nobody would want to book it for those two available days if the previous family left the Sunday before you arrive....is that wrong. I mean where do we stop putting on restrictions?

Again, just b/c someone views it one way doesn't make it right/wrong, but to insinuate people are abusing the system when you have no idea if WDW is ok with this or not and that it is a loophole is kinda silly. The parking is totally different as it is a policy stated. Free parking for length of stay. Nowhere is it stated that FP+ is for length of hotel stay, but that you get it with an overnight stay at a resort and is good for the length of your park tickets. None of us know if luring Offsite guests on for a night to get this perk was part of the plan. Assuming you know Disney's wants or doesn't want this at this point makes no sense. For now it is allowed and you are able to tell the CM this is your plan while booking and will get your reservation and your FP+. For all we know WDW is testing this option to see how it impacts them. If it is negative they will eliminate it, if it increases their profit they will leave it.
