"Thriller" HM Reference?

I'm in the middle of watching Michael Jackson's This Is It and I just got to the "Thriller" point and the FIRST thing that popped in my head is HAUNTED MANSION!!! The first shot is of a circular room with paintings and a man hanging in the center up top, even the ceiling design is super close to haunted mansion at DL. 1:45 into the vid. certainly does resemble parts from the HM but maybe we will never know what the interpretation was to be.

some other stuff that fits in with the HM theme are the ghosts on the chandelier just like the ghosts in the ballroom scene of the ride. The ghosts that were to be ran between the aisles during the show look like the ones that float up in the graveyard scene of the ride as well!! I know Michael loved Disneyland

There are so many similarities! Like the Haunted Mansion, this version of "Thriller" also has the scared gravedigger/caretaker (like in the beginning of HM's graveyard scene), the "floating wraiths" (like the ones that fly in & out of the windows in HM's ballroom scene), a ghost bride, and the zombies popping up out of the graves resemble certain occupants of the HM's graveyard that like to "pop up" & scare people. As a previous poster said, MJ did love Disneyland, so it's not surprising that some ideas from the Haunted Mansion were incorporated into the new rendition of "Thriller".

On another message board, someone posted years ago, "Did anyone else notice that what was supposed the 3D section in Thriller had clips of the Disney Haunted Mansion Attraction?! (the whole opening scene is from Disney HM)..."

Years ago? But the new "Thriller" 3D scene was only from last year. It was for the This Is It tour that never happened in July 2009.

LOL Nope, I thought it said 2000. After your question, I went back to the site and looked closer to see it was a 9.

haha I did that a few weeks ago...bought a $9.99 disneyland app on iTunes cause I thought it said $0.99

That's exactly what we said when we watched it. LOL It started and DBF and I looked at each other and said "OMG HM!" LOL
