We have a full size reserved from Thrifty July 2 - July 8 for $146.49 all taxes included. Used the WMRT code off Mousesavers site. My reservation says "Renter must be the Primary Wal-Mart Account Holder". Has anyone used this code and been asked to present your card or had them check to see if you have a card? As you can probably guess I don't have one and didn't realize I needed one until I read the Terms and Conditions. Also have people been happy with Thrifty? I signed up for the Blue Chip so I'm hoping that helps prevent the insurance hassle. I have always used National but this seems to be a decent price (I hope).

Thanks for all your help.

My DH made reservations recently for a friend of his at Thrifty using the Walmart code. They just returned last week and said that they had absolutely no problems with Thrifty at all. In fact they were very pleased with the whole experience. Thrifty even sent them a "Thank You' e-mail after their rental.
Since they had heard about possible problems with the insurance issue, they made a copy of their insurance card and brought that with them. They were never asked about it and never had to show the copy.
BTW, they reserved a full-size car and took a Ford Taurus. They said that there were other cars available but that they were happy with the Taurus. I was certainly glad to hear all of this as I have a full-size reserved with them in August for 17 days at a price of $386/taxes. I couldn't come near that price at any of the other companies.

Thanks for the reassurance. I wasn't sure if I should apply for a Wal-Mart credit card or not. Now I can stop worrying. That's great advice about the insurance card also. You can't be too prepared. Glad to hear your friends were pleased with Thrifty.

Has anyone else had problems with Thrifty or have any words of wisdom?

That code comes from the Wal-Mart edition Rand-McNally Atlas, which anyone can walk into Wal-Mart and buy! I don't see how they can possibly expect you to show a "membership" card or anything.

Just to reinterate this point... I was in Walmart an hour ago. This code is listed on the back cover of their Rand McNally road atlas which anyone can use. There is nothing in the fine print saying you have to be a primary card holder.....

Yep, I checked the Rand-McNally Atlas also and didn't see a thing. I didn't want to ask Thrifty about it and draw attention to this statement. So I can just be happy about a decent rate over a holiday weekend.

I called about this about a month ago. They told me if you used a walmart card you have to be the primary card holder but you don't need a walmart card.

Just wanted to give everyone an update on Thrifty. We had a great experience, absolutely no problems. They were busy when we arrived however we were just so glad to be on vacation that a short wait was no problem. Originally they were going to give us a Dodge Intrepid however someone else had just rented it. Then they mentioned a Ford Taurus. All four of us, me, dh,and 2 dd started laughing. We explained that the last rental car was a Taurus with a bad transmission but I reassured this young girl that it would be fine. A few minutes later she came back and said the Taurus had problems and couldn't be rented. Again we just laughed. She said she had something good but wouldn't say what it was, only that they'll get it pulled up and see what we thought. It was a Chrysler 300M, fully loaded with leather, power seats, sun roof, etc.

I think it made her very busy day that we did not complain and were nice to her. Kindness does pay off.

And no one asked for any Wal-Mart credit card. Maybe it was just pure luck but it was a great car rental experience.:sunny:

Crazy4dis, glad to hear you had a good experience with Thrifty. I am booked with them from August 4-21. Everything I have read lately has been positive. I had friends who used them in June and had no complaints. They did, however, have a Taurus (hopefully not the one you were offered!) How was the shuttle ride? My DH plans on getting the car while I pick up the luggage with my two DDs. Can you give me an idea of how long it might take him to pick up the car. Thanks for any additional info you can give me.

Jiminy14, the shuttle was waiting for us after we picked up our luggage. He was ready to take off however he saw us coming and waited for us. The shuttle ride seemed short maybe 5-10 minutes. The Blue Chip line had only one family in front of us however there was only one person working that line so the rental experience took about 20-30 minutes. Remember it was July 4th weekend so I imagine it was a little crazier than usual.

Also when we got the car we noticed there were more scratches than noted so we let the guy at the checkout know. He made random notations all over the diagram.

I was hestitant to rent off the terminal justifying it because I got such a good rate. Renting off the terminal was really not a big deal, not as convenient but really not an issue.

Thanks for the info Crazy4dis. We are arriving early afternoon on a Wednesday, so hopefully we won't have to wait too long. We have usually rented at the airport in the past but National and Dollar are at least $120 more than my Thrifty rate and that was for an intermediate compared to a full-size at Thrifty. I'll have DH make sure he double checks the car for damage before he leaves.

I am renting from Thrifty on Tuesday using the WMRT code. I hope I don't have to show a card, as I don't have one, I read the print too after I reserved. Sounds like I don't have to worry.

Now for the problem: I had a mid-sized rented "I thought" but I just called to confirm and somehow I am reserved for 2005, not 2004. I had it rented, all fees for $243 for 11 days. The lady on the phone was willing to reserve another rental for me for a mere $450...uh, no thanks! I now have an economy reserved for the $243 under the blue chip program and the WMRT code, this was the cheapest of any rental agency I could find at the last minute.

Does anyone have any experience with their economy vehicles? There's me, dh, 2 kids and we each have 1 fairly small suitcase each plus a few carry type bags.

Bummer on the dates. The economy car is VERY small.

thrifty lists this for blue chip wmrt july 20 - 31

4 adults and 4 suitcases

11 days @ $18.49/day with Unlimited Miles

*TOTAL BASE RATE(USD)

$183.05

total tax in 243$

do not know how blue chip works in orlando, but when i did blue chip in las vegas they just dropped me off at that particular aisle i had reserved and i got to choose any car on that blue chip aisle, so you might get some "choice" on the car to git your needs

if you have to do blue chip inside at the counter ( you might get a sympathetic agent ) who can give you a choice of economy if you ask what is available

good luck

just a note ......expedia shows economy car for thrifty as being
