Thrifty/Dollar Experience

Came in today to MCO and rented a car from Thrifty/Dollar. The only reason I put a slash is because it's the same line to wait for either company. And I cannot stress enough the line is long. It took an hour to get up to an agent. Dollar had 3 agents/workers with 1 disappearing on and off. Thrifty had 2 total. We actually had 2 reservations at the time (free cancelations on each reservation) so we went with the cheaper option of Thrifty. Agent was fine did everything correctly. We had a rate through Triple A which we thought was good and it gave a free driver. Go out to the rental line to the next worker who said they didn't have any (full size is what we reserved). She said I'll give you a smaller car (we said no). We walked and actually found the 3 of the exact same car we reserved. We get in the car go to the toll booth and give license everything seemed fine. I looked in the little rental brochure thing they give with the paperwork tonight after getting to our room. Turns out, they charged the week for the free driver ($125 increase).

We called this afternoon/evening to fix this. Billing of course is closed on weekends. The person suggested going back to the airport waiting in line and to try and fix the problem at any time (during my vacation week). I declined.

So long story short, may be worth spending the extra little bit at a different company to avoid the frustration, waiting in line, and overcharging.

OMG what a nightmare. I know we had another thread here, but just to verify...there was NOT an option to go directly to the booth at the MCO Garage for Thrifty/Dollar for you? We have the frequent renter programs for each of these but back in March were directly inside to the terminal...which is what I assume happened to you with the long line? It was indeed a NIGHTMARE!

We leave tomorrow. I have a Thrifty reservation that is $50 cheaper than my Alamo reservation. Both have free cancellation but Alamo lets me go directly to the garage, pick a car, I have a pre-printed rental ticket and I just go. I was going to attempt Thrifty/Dollar MAYBE just to see what happens but it sounds like I shouldn't even bother.

No option to go directly to the garage. I would go with Alamo.
