Three Yr Old Boy Dies choking on Hot Dog

I don't understand why it is so important where it happened. Nobody really knows and it really makes no difference.

It doesn't make a difference that the OP continues to stand by her claim that a three-year-old boy died at WDW because of slow or incompetent emergency personnel?

Change the thread title! It is bad form to keep it up. The OP has no knowledge that it happened at WDW.

Peace

I tend to agree, it should be changed to indicate that yes, a tragedy may have occured and read the posts about choking hazards and preventions, so perhaps if someone finds themselves in this unfortunate situation they might better respond to it, but to state that it happened at WDW and state that rescue personnel did not act responsibly is a little misleading.

It definitely varies by geographic area. Rural areas tend to allow far more latitude than urban areas which makes sense because you can be so much farther from medical help!!
I have done a cricothyroidotomy like 20 years ago... no ball point pen barrel though, better off with a small endotracheal tube since you can hook bag valve mask right to it.
Later on though we switched to another form of cricothyroidotomy, called Transtracheal Jet Insufflation.
It is MUCH easier and safer, not great ventilation but get's the job done.
Here's a link to Sacremento EMS they describe it pretty well

http://www.co.sacramento.ca.us/ems/8801.html

As Judi pointed out though it takes a full blown Paramedic, not an EMT. I have no idea which showed up for this tragedy...

Mad4Mickey, it did indeed happen. There were postings for the child's wake in all the schools in our district.

I cannot corroborate one way or the other which park in happened in. I do know that the 3 year old child of a 4th grade teacher in our district died choking on a hotdog while vacationing in Orlando. I heard it was ar WDW but it could be that they were staying there and visiting US for the day.

And, since this is the case, I stand by Mickey4ver and TjKane28, the title of the thread should be changed... and if the original OP doesn't want to change it, perhaps the moderaters would do so!?

I agree with the above posters that the title should be changed to "Boy dies choking on a hot dog". I find it strange that no one will change the title. I have seen faster editing of "sarcastic" posts that did not contain misinformation.

I said my sister works with the woman who's son died. I wouldn't post an urban legend or I would state the fact that I didn't know if it was true. My sister attended the wakes & funeral. The boy was basically dead at WDW. They kept him on life support for 2 days because the Mom was so bad she wouldn't agree to shut off the machines. (I can understand needing a few days to come to terms w/this horrific situation.) I'm sorry I won't point fingers at this poor woman and say its her fault for giving him a hot dog. She'll spend the rest of her life blaming herself. I do hold Disney partly responsible. The ambulance couldn't get through. They should be able to transport in minutes. In situations like this minutes count.

What gets me about this matter is the above quote from the original poster where she states that she "holds Disney responsible" . Now she wasn't there when it happened and she wrote her version of what she had been told. She is not the mother or relative of the child and has no standing in this situation. She "heard" about it. So she decides that she will hold Disney responsible.

Now it appears that it happened at Univeral Studios. Has the OP come forward and apologized for blaming Disney for something that didn't even happen on their property? Has she acknowledged that she was wrong in her first post and second posts? Does she still "hold Disney responsible?"

If you use the edit button in the bottom right corner of your post, you can edit your spelling mistakes and nobody will ever know:p

I was just teaching Ladylt how to edit. I don't think everyone realizes that they can edit their posts once they press enter. Ladylt had posted that she was sorry that her previous post had so many spelling mistakes, so I told her that there was an edit button that she could use. Now if that delete button would only work, she could delete that second post that originally had her apology but now only says "aa" and she'd be all set. Is there anyone else, besides me, that can't get the delete post button to work?

Well, it wouldn't let me delete it. And it wouldn't let me "edit" it to a blank form. So I put in "aa" just to erase my previous apology.

Thanks for your tip.

Bianca

It never lets me delete either. If you report the post to the moderator, they will delete it. (that's just above the edit button).

I work fulltime and haven't been on internet till now. I just called 2 people who say it was at WDW. But does it really matter?? I apoligized a week ago saying I didn't really blame Disney I posted in anger and I should have posed it as a question not accusation. (should we be concerned about response time at WDW ? and not the way I stated posted it) There still is a poor 3 yr old that died. Shouldn't that be our concern? There has been alot of discussion about choking hazards that people were unaware of so maybe some good has come of this. Maybe it will also encourage people to take a basic EMT course. Lots of people have posted wonderful experiences with Disney during an emergency. And as someone else posted when your waiting for help minutes seem like hours. The only thing I can tell you is my heart was in the right place and I hoped to prevent it from happening to someone elses child.

Not trying to harp, but it mattered to YOU when you first posted it. Why should we worry (unnecessarily) about response time at WDW if this incident didn't happen there? Just curious, why haven't you changed the title? The reason it DOES matter is that there are people who come here to plan WDW trips and have pre-existing health issues and/or small children. To give them the impression that they may be unsafe by visiting WDW can cause them unnecessary stress about their plans. I feel that if you cannot be absolutely sure of where this happened, you are being misleading in this thread.

I have met many people who have gone to Universal and told people they were going on a trip to WDW, many people think there is an affiliation between the two.

JMHO.

I did check with 2 people who insist it was at WDW. And like I stated a week ago I was angry and over emotional. I apoligized then and explained . I'm trying to edit bt I'm technically challenged so I'll try again and if I'm unsuccessful I'll ask the moderator to do it.
