Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Saturday Morning!

#1 - MY PHONE - I think it’s the single most convenient thing that I own. I use it for anything and everything anymore in regards to information.

#2 - RING CAMERAS - My house is like Fort Knox now, we have cameras everywhere. The most convenient place for cameras is my backyard. My husband has put several cameras back there so we can keep an eye on our very active little dog. The squirrels must be very active this morning because this is the current view that I have.

He’s been there for a half hour now. It’s nice that I can sit here and drink my coffee., be on my tablet while he’s out there in the snow searching for squirrels :rotfl:

#3 - ALARM CLOCKS - A lot of people will use their own alarm clocks, but I use actual alarm clocks. I actually use multiple alarm clocks because I have been known to accidentally turn off an alarm instead of hitting the snooze button, so I set two different alarm clocks. I don’t have to be at work until 8:30 AM., but my husband leaves for work at around 6:15 AM, so I set these multiple alarms to make sure that I get up to make sure that he gets up. I’m also a morning person so I like getting up really early because that’s when I get stuff done around the house. I get so much stuff done before I go to work because when I come home, I don’t wanna have to be doing stuff except to make dinner. When I watch historical fictions., I often wonder how people knew to get up as early as they got up back in the days before alarm clocks. Did they have incredible amazing internal clocks? Many times they would get up before the sun rose, so they couldn’t rely on sunlight. Something that I’ve always been curious about.

Saturday hug to all

Phones and Kindle/tablet provide ways to keep in touch with those we love, reach out period, share faith and friendship on here, and enjoy movies along with for me, church worship service too

Online ordering has been an incredible resource during the last year especially to my Dad and I.

Our apartment and even this room within this awful place are in convenient locations

Afternoon all,

1. Microwave - taking inspiration from the national day, I couldn't live without my microwave. I do a lot of batch cooking to have quick meals ready when I've been at work or had a busy day, and wouldn't be able to heat them up without the microwave!

2. Phone - another vote for phones. As a mostly solo traveller especially, I don't know how I'd be able to function without my phone.

3. Online shopping - another vote for this. I don't really enjoy shopping so shop online wherever I can. Just wish all of the shops I use are online, although if they were I'd hardly leave the house...

Microwave

Automatic coffee pot I remember the days of making coffee on the stove

Washing machine and dryer - I would hate to have to do laundry by hand and then hang it up to dry it wasn’t that long ago that you had to do that

Grocery or food delivery not only is it convenient but it saves me money because I don’t go to the store and buy things I don’t need because I see them🤣🤣🤣

Online check in/digital boarding passes- of course, most of the terminal machines are still configured to do and print everything. Still, it’s nice to get it done from the convenience of your home.

Gym locations - About 10 months ago, they opened a Planet Fitness about 7-10 minutes from our home. About 2 months ago, the converted another local gym into a PF. This one is only about 3-4 minutes from home. This is huge considering the previous locations were no less than a 25 minute drive on a really good day. The reality is I could walk to both new locations.

Working from home- Being able to walk across the hallway to my home office and put in a full day’s work affords me a multitude of conveniences. Instead of sitting in traffic, I’m getting in a nice walk. Instead of leaving earth make it back in time for a school activity, I actually have some downtime between end of the workday and the activity. The list just goes on and on.

How could I forget about working from home! I've been doing this for well over a decade and I couldn't work a job that didn't let me do this.

1. My two laminators, as a Kindergarten Teacher, I laminate a lot...so much so that I have one at home and one at school. The large one owned by the school has never worked and when it did, there was never laminating film.

2. Paper cutter. It doesn't matter how hard I try. The only way to cut paper perfectly straight is with my paper cutter.

3. Document camera. It connects to my laptop and projects whatever we are doing on my Promethian board.

My microwave keeps my morning coffee at just the right temperature no matter how long it takes me to drink it. I also love being able to cook frozen veggies.

Online banking and bill paying

FaceTime: it allowed my parents, who couldn’t travel, to see my daughter get married.. I also drop whatever I’m doing if my granddaughter FaceTimes me.

Two comments that are topic-related: First, we have a brand new microwave! The one we've been using was in the house when we bought it 21+ years ago, and it wasn't new then, so it was time. Haven't taken the new one out of the box yet- it's been a crazy week- but it'll happen soon. Second... DD32 is back to ballet and is in a local Nutcracker production this weekend. I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to make giant cotton candy cones as stage props for the shows. I wasn't successful, but now I know what doesn't work! SO... microwaves and cotton candy are very timely for me!!

Conveniences:
Coffee maker with a built in timer. I love waking up to freshly-brewed coffee, ready to be consumed.
Eye glasses/bifocals. I have learned this week what a blessing good vision is, and am ever so grateful for the convenience of glasses, so one can see. I cannot imagine what it must have been like to know you are slowly losing your vision and couldn't do anything about it.
Hand-held shower head. I can't get water in my eyes or on my face due to recent cataract surgery. Having a hand-held shower head has made it so much easier to avoid getting water on my face/in my eyes while washing my hair (among other regions...).

Soft things:
My soft, plush bathrobe. I love this bathrobe. It was my MIL's and when she died, I took it. It's probably 10 years old and is still fluffy and plush; it hasn't matted down or pilled at all. It's warm and comfy, and when I wear it I feel like I'm getting a big hug from her; I miss her so much.
Soft foods: Soft scrambled eggs, creamed spinach, chicken pot pie, mushroom soup, macaroni and cheese... these are my comfort foods.
My sister's cat, Bandit. We have been cat-sitting while my sister is between apartments and although she is now situated, we haven't been able to get Bandit back to her. He is warm and soft and likes to curl up next to me when I'm on my laptop. It makes me miss having a cat or two in the house.

Good Sunday Morning!

Illinois is my very close neighbor - like I can walk there. Because I live so close, I’m in that state all the time, so I’m going to choose Illinois today.

#1 - CHICAGO (DOWNTOWN) - Yes, it has a lot of violence and crime, but I still love it and I’m grateful to have it so close to us. We go downtown multiple times a year for restaurants, plays or to just walk around. Our philosophy is, if you go in the day time and leave at dusk, you can get out of there before the gun fires begins :lmao:Sad, but true ::yes::

#2 - MUSEUMS (ALL IN CHICAGO) - We have incredible museums by us and my DH works at one of them. He works at The Museum of Science and Industry, which has been a great job. We also have The Field Museum, The Shedd Aquarium, The Art Museum, The Chicago History Museum, The Adler planetarium and more. What’s sad,,,,is so many people around here never visit these places. So many kids have no clue what they are. I don’t get it :confused3

#3 - HOSPITALS (ALL IN CHICAGO) - We are lucky to have amazing hospitals right in our backyard and they all have satellite offices to make it convenient for people. We have Rush hospital, University of Chicago hospital, Northwestern hospital, Lurie’s Children’s hospital and more. These hospitals are some of the best of the best and most of my specialist are at these hospitals.

Illinois is not my state but I’m very close to it - less than 20 miles and I’ve often visited the state and we’ve been to Chicago several times and I’ve had to go to Chicago for business multiple times I love going to Chicago

Deep dish pizza although I am a thin crust pizza person I do enjoy getting my deep dish pizza and I have been known to order some and have them delivered to my house because I found a company that would do that and then we can finish baking them at home and have deep dish pizza Chicago style

Museums Chicago has some wonderful museums to go visit I thoroughly enjoy going to the museums up in Chicago

Shopping 🛍️ love to go shopping up in Chicago you can just walk out the door of your hotel and just start shopping!!! When I had to go up there for work my hotel and my work and the shopping all in one spot so much fun!!!

Soft things
Pillows
Towels
My big plush DISNEY robe

Evening all,

1. Winter bedding - I have my winter bedding on at the moment and the duvet covers are just so soft and cosy and make it really difficult to stay in bed!

2. Knitted jumpers - the only thing I like about winter is being able to wear all my super soft knitted jumpers to keep me warm.

3. Chocolate mousses - a nice, soft airy dessert and I love them as a quick, fairly low cal treat after dinner every day.
