Before I get into my any three things from yesterday, I can say that we usually go around the table and share what we're grateful for when sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner each year. Every now and then, someone gets creative, which is fun. That being said, being thankful for the "same old boring stuff" says to me that we have it pretty darn good!
My Any Three Things are going to be themed based on my weekend. DH and DD17 were in FL while I stayed home to set up our outside light display. It's always a lot of work with many challenges but I did some major revamps this year, which means extra problem solving. We're expecting storms tonight, so I'm really hoping I don't find a mess in the morning.
1. The boring but necessary stuff - I'm talking ground stakes, power towers, extension cords, zip ties, mounting poles, tethers, twist ties, twine, boxes, bins, bags and ladders. We also can't forget the outlets and electricity that make it all possible.
2. Modern delivery options - It's inevitable...not everything that you banked on working will function. Sometimes it's that old item that you plan to be there the following year, while sometimes it's something brand new. This year, the biggest loss was Santa. He's my fourth Santa in 9 years. There was nothing suitable that was local for pickup but I got something "good enough" on
Amazon that was relatively cheap and delivered next day. One of my shooting stars (turned them into "trees") that was being reused from the last 2 years died yesterday morning as I was finishing set up. While I had already zip tied it to the post topper and had it up in place, I had at least not done the full fanning of the strands. I found something on Amazon with same day delivery in the next 3 hours if I paid a minimal shipping upcharge. There's more, but you get the idea.
3. Kind neighbors - A number of us put a lot of work into our displays but we also take the time to appreciate each other. I had four neighbors pop by to check on me and compliment my work. It helps justify the efforts when you get support. It also makes me feel safer. Here I am, home alone, and doing a lot of work on a ladder. Sure, it's not the big ladder (now that's scary) but I'm still up high enough to be trying to tackle 10' poles with star tops that are closer to 11'...on uneven ground. So, good to have people keeping a bit of an eye on you when nobody else is around.
*I'll share a walkthrough at the end
Grateful I Can Do
1. Walk - Minus a few exceptions, I go on a long walk each and every single day...usually in the morning. It wasn't that long ago that my heel/ankle was a mess and I couldn't do this. It also wasn't that long ago when I was worried about keeping my leg due to complications from cancer and surgeries. So, pretty happy that I can get out there each day and walk.
2. Creative With Food - It's fun around the holidays, especially when it comes to baking and reimagining some things (never mess with the staples on a big day), but it's also good in my health and weight loss journey. Being in a calorie deficit is a simple concept, but finding foods that nourish your body, provide satiety, and keep you from being bored isn't always easy.
3. Sing - I've often said that my voice is like another appendage. When I lose it or part of it due to illness, I feel like a part of me is missing. Regardless, singing is therapeutic to me. It's like a controlled form of primal scream therapy and I'm grateful I can do it.
