Cake!!! - Today is my younger one's birthday and while I will likely wait until Thanksgiving (more people to eat it) for her big cake, I'm reminded of all of the fun cake themes we've had over the years. We have a tailgate tonight with the school softball team (for a football game) and the coaches are getting her a cake. I couldn't let them be first, so I bought her a mini cake last night where it's piped to look like a big blue rose. No idea what her formal cake theme will be but we've been in a minty place of late, so that will likely be the flavor profile.
Cookies - The holiday baking season is almost upon us, which is seriously the most fun cookie time of the year. Still, all of these reels I get regarding Crumbl and Crave have reminded me that cookies can be really fun. While you can't go wrong with a well made chocolate chip cookie, sugar cookie, or shortbread...even those can be embellished to go from classic staples to big fun. I love to dip my shortbread in melted chocolate, turn them into sandwich cookies with jams or ganache, and decorate them with anything from dragees/nonpareils to candied oranges or peppermint bits.
Candy Salad - While I'm happy to share that we have no leftover candy from Halloween, in past years...by this point, I'd be approaching that time when I'd look to taking all of ours and making a candy salad. We'd have to be careful if DD19 was around due to her allergies, but other than that, it's kind of fun to blend all of the candies and get handfuls of flavors that surprisingly balance when consumed together.
