Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I'm with @leebee on the Great British Baking Show/Bake Off/whatever they call it where you live. As much as I love some of the American shows, there is something so refreshing about the humor, the spirit of competition, the educational elements, and the overall structure compared to American programming. I've been tuning in to Netflix every Friday since the start of the new season while trying to avoid spoilers in their social media (since it is a tad ahead of us in the UK).

In the same vein...Halloween Baking Championship on Food Network. I love all of these...Holiday, Spring, Summer, etc. but the Halloween version for this year just started up on Monday. I was in the gym that night. Everyone else was glued to football and I'm cracking up at the goofy humor and cake fails.

Sesame Street...My kids were never as into it as I was but it was still such a valuable tool and even makes for great entertainment as an adult. I recently saw someone post some retro toys that came out from the early days. I MAY need to get the Alligator King and his 7th son.

Great British Bake-off (does that count, cuz it's more of a reality show? Except the contestants are kinder to each other than many people are in reality...)
It definitely does count! As reality shows go, this is actually a good one ☺️

It airs in the UK on a Tuesday, so presuming you're a few days behind by the sound of it? And i could be biased but I think UK cooking competition shows in general seem so much better than the US ones. The American ones seem a bit OTT...

My 3 tv shows are:

1. Bake Off - as above, love this show and gives me far too much inspiration when it comes to baking although I cant bake like they can!

2. Alien: Earth - i hadn't expected much from this show but I absolutely love it. It takes a lot for a tv show to hook me nowadays and this really has.

3. Great British Sewing Bee - similar to Bake Off, my friend got me into this last year and its such a fun and interesting watch. Almost makes me want to take up sewing.

New episodes are pushed to US Netflix on Friday. So, it's several days where I have to be careful on what I see/read. They are usually pretty thoughtful with what they post to keep from revealing spoilers on the surface. I do like some of the OTT with the US shows but I often dislike how mean and cutthroat some of them can be. I just want to see the neat/delicious/beautiful things they're making, the struggles (and corresponding improvs to save their bakes), and some of the ins and outs of how it was done. I don't need soap opera drama to go with it. I think some also hinges on the prizes, or lack of one when it comes to Bake Off. People get more aggressive and are less likely to have those friendly bonds (like you see at the end of Bake Off) when life changing prize money is involved.

Yep those are the ones, they do more than just bears - not a fan of the bears as much but the fried eggs, yummy! Do they not do anything else other than the bears in the US?
I checked while I was out today, and apparently we have quite a variety (though not fried eggs) at my local store:

Exactly!!

TV shows:

Another who is glad I watched PBS as a kid - Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, etc.

Favorite rewatches like Gilmore Girls and The Waltons

Weekly shows I'm grateful will be coming back soon - Grey's Anatomy and Call the Midwife

Shows I have memories of watching with specific people - Murder, She Wrote (with my Grandma) and Jeopardy (with my Dad)

Narrowing down my 3 to older shows

Twilight Zone (recently reminded of it when reading remembrances of Robert Redford)

The Dick van Dyke Show (loved Laura Petrie!)

Earliest TV memories were watching the original Mickey Mouse Club at my grandparents. (we didn’t have a TV until I was 4) Oh, and my Grandfather loved the Lawrence Welk show! (I had paper dolls of the Lennon Sisters)

Good Thursday Morning

#1 - MUSHROOMS WITH SWISS - I love a good mushroom burger, especially when my DH makes one for me.

#2 - KETCHUP & MUSTARD - I normally just put these on my burger.

#3 - ONION STRAWS - I normally don’t put these on my burger at home, but I do enjoy them when I get them on a burger at a restaurant

I don't know how many of you have Whataburger in your area, but I have a very specific way that I order my Whataburger. I haven't had one in ages, but if I was going to work it out in my nutrition for a day, this is how it would be ordered...which works out to three things...

1. Extra Pickles
2. Extra Cheese
3. Mayonnaise instead of mustard
*Nothing else on the burger (since they will put everything else if you don't say so)

Yes, I do like other things on my burgers...like a good mushroom Swiss maybe with some sauteed/caramelized onions or a bacon bleu cheese with some melted brie, but 1-3 are my staples.

Evening all!

1. Mayonnaise - I dont dislike ketchup, but i could give or take it on a burger etc. Mayonnaise is my go to on burgers, with fries, everything. And even better if it's a spicy or chipotle or flavoured mayo too.

2. Cheese - you can't really go wrong with cheese as a topping - burgers, tacos, fajitas, nachos, pizza... 🧀

3. Nutella - not on a burger, obviously, but Nutella is my must have topping for pancakes, waffles or anything sweet.
