Three Things...Gratitude Thread

It appears to be all about the sand today:IMG_0641.jpeg
Today's Topic (Mon, 8/11) - 3 things you're grateful for inspired by the above pictures (can include other things with a similar texture, it doesn't have to be sand)

I am grateful for actual sandy beaches. I didn't grow up near the ocean, but live within an easy drive now, and have enjoyed many day trips to the beach.

I'm also very grateful for the ground coffee that I use every morning and little bit of sugar I put in it.

Bonus - When I was kid, I remember having this play sand that was squishy in water but powdery the moment you took it out. I don't remember exactly what it was called, and it wasn't quite the same as the kinetic sand pictured above, but it was really cool!

Happy Monday Friends!

#1 - Brown Sugar - When it’s fresh and soft.

#2 - Powdered Sugar - I love love love it! I’m a closet powdered sugar eater. At Christmas time, when I’m making my peanut butter balls, I will always sneak a few teaspoons of powdered sugar - I eat it straight - love it! Don’t Judge - LOL!

#3 - Regular White Sugar - I blame my mother with how I need to add it to so many things 😂

Sweet things...
Ice cream sodas
Maple syrup (the real stuff)
Teriyaki beef

CT things... STEW LEONARD'S!!!

Sandy things:
Soft white sand beaches
My facial scrub
The "sand" at the Dig Site in Animal Kingdom. It's more like teeny tiny glass beads than actual sand (or it was, back in the day). Not sure what it really was, but it felt like a super foot massage after hours of chasing kids around Disney!

Sweet

Cake - Long story short...I've been dreaming of making a cake inspired by an Almond Joy but I didn't want to make my own bday cake, I have no reason to make a cake, and I didn't want that much lying around. So, I improvised. We got a coconut cake in Kroger's freezer section, topped it with broken up Almond Joys and called it a day. It hit the spot.

Protein Bars - I know these aren't the perfect things for people's diets but they do help me hit my protein goals, they work well for breakfast after my morning walk, and they feel enough like candy bars to quiet those cravings.

Crystal Light caffeinated lemonade - It blends well with my collagen powder for my morning beverage, is strong enough that one packet is good for my 40oz Stanley about 1.25x, and has helped me cut way back on diet soda.

Sandy

Beaches - I am not a beach person, but we spent days at Seal Beach and Huntington Beach while we were out in CA. The kids love it and could literally spend hours boogie boarding and playing beach volleyball. So, I love it for them.

Brown Sugar - I've used it several times in cake decorating to create edible dirt and sand. Light brown sugar is better sand (dark is good for dirt).

Moving Sand Art - I love those framed pieces with colored sand and grooves/channels where you can tip and tilt it to make the sand flow and have ever changing art.

Afternoon everyone!

I'm really not a fan of sand, whether wet or dry. And i absolutely refuse to walk from dry to wet sand and back again, I can't stand how it gets everywhere.

1. Seaside - despite my aversion to sand, I do like the seaside and coast in general, the beauty and general peacefulness of it. Plus seaside resorts and towns always seem to be a lot more enjoyable.

2. Sugar - I do a lot of baking so sugar is pretty much a necessity in my house.

3. Flour - same as the above, this is a staple when I do so much baking!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So this is my playground...has not seen water since Christmas 23.. this is the major channel and it is flat...so not dangerous to property... second photo is one of several side channels that help keep the water from being destructive...third photo... well sometime before temps dropped below 85...a snake track passed thru in the last 24 hours... most of the snake live up the first photo where there is habitat for them and food

3 things about sand.

I grew up on the south shore of Long Island, so I was never very far from the beach. I never realized until I took a trip to CA, that not all beaches had the fine, white sand that we did.

Memories of my DD playing in the sand when we stayed at the Polynesian. It was a perfect break from the craziness that was MK.

With the exception of the scene in the Wizard of Oz, I like watching sand pass through an hour glass.

My new stereo system - play CDs cassettes and records because I’m old I have all three I can’t tell you how much joy this has brought me that I can listen to my music no matter what form I have it in I love this system so much I bought a second one for upstairs so now I can listen to all the same things in my bedroom because I couldn’t hear them if I was playing them downstairs no matter how loud I had it
And shockingly it really wasn’t that expensive

Concerts - I don’t go to them as much now as when I was younger but when I was younger I went to them all the time but granted when I was younger it were much cheaper like a whole lot cheaper nowadays I just go see an artist if they’re never gonna tour again I think I’ve been to one concert in the last five years unless I’m at Epcot and they have somebody that I enjoy listening to there

Candlelight Processional ❤️❤️❤️ absolutely love this I have absolutely love this since the first time I seen it and I have seen this I don’t know how many times but it’s a lot I enjoyed it so much that bought it because back then they didn’t have CDs and then when they came out with CDs I bought it on a CD if I’m ever down there during that time of the year I always go to see it and I will still stop and watch it when I’m in Epcot and I will listen to that CD all year long it is a beautiful ceremony

Good Tuesday Morning

#1 - DD27’s SINGING VOICE - She has an amazing voice and I’m grateful for the times I was able to hear her sing. She doesn’t sing anymore and is moved out of our house, so I no longer hear that beautiful voice. She took singing lessons and was in HS theater, sang the national anthem for a minor league baseball team and was the youngest cantor at our church (she was in 8th grade. Our church is over 150 years old and to their knowledge, she was the youngest ever to lead the Mass in song).

#2 - MY WORKOUT PLAYLIST - I have an awesome playlist and it’s clean. So much music today is filled with so much swearing and it’s angry. I’m not offended by it, but at 7am, I don’t want to listen to it.

#3 - DISNEY CDs - I used to love listen to so many Disney music CDs in the car with my girls. I wish cars still had CD players, because not all my Disney CDs are available on iTunes. I should just buy myself a portable CD player for the car.

Afternoon everyone!

1. Wireless/Bluetooth headphones - couldn't survive with these to listen to music on every day while out walking. Would struggle to go back to wired headphones now.

2. Spotify - having the entire world of music at your fingertips on an app is so incredibly useful. While I have fond memories of my iPod, CDS etc, a streaming app like Spotify is just something I couldn't live without. And the ability to listen continuously whilst changing devices, moving from my headphones to my car to my home speakers is brilliant.

3. Wireless/Bluetooth speakers - I love being able to listen to the same music at the same volume no matter where I am in my house, and I have a number of these speakers dotted about upstairs and downstairs to do this, and i love it!

AirPods - While I wear earmuff style ones around the house, the more compact variety is so great for walking and the gym.

iTunes - While it's far from perfect, part of why I'm loyal to iPhones is iTunes. I find it so much easier to manage my purchased/owned music on here than the one Android phone that I owned.

Me - A number of us have been talking of late about what we're going to do when our youngest go off to college and we're no longer married to the world of travel ball. While I have a number of things I want to do, by the end of this school year, I plan to start getting my voice back into shape so I can be ready for auditioning and hopefully performing. I still haven't decided if I want to go exclusively classical or if I want to add in some musical theater.
