Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good morning everyone :)

God willing, I will go home a week after summer has started and sometime before the season ends be fully back to normal.

Warmer weather and brighter, longer days are such a summertime blessing.

Memories of working and volunteering at church summer day camps.

Birthdays - DD18 and I are both August birthdays! 🦁♌

Travel - While I miss true vacations, I do like that DD16s travel ball schedule takes us to places I love, like Colorado.

Perseids - Just after my bday is the annual Perseid meteor shower. Viewing isn't good from my home but I still try or aim to try wherever I am if I'm on the road.

Summer things...

Being able to grill almost every night. Even though we can access the grill in the winter, it's often too cold/windy to do a really good job; it just doesn't stay hot enough. I love to cook meat outdoors, and we probably do the 5 nights a week in the summer.

Summer birthdays: I have three siblings with June birthdays (two on 6/21, traditionally the solstice/first day of summer), the Little Guy and I are both in July, and DH and son-in-law are in August. [DD has to wait til September]

Having the windows open again, with the fresh air filling the house!

Summer is my favourite season, I really wish it lasted longer than a few months!

1. Weather - in theory, summer brings nicer and warmer weather including lots of sunshine. Bit hit and miss in the UK whether this actually materialises or not, but usually at least its nice enough to not need central heating and be able to enjoy sitting outside in the sun or at a beer garden!

2. Summer clothes - I do love being able to wear summer clothes; shorts, dresses, vest tops, sandals, anything summery and not having to throw on a million layers or jumpers or coats over the top.

3. Lighter mornings and evenings - I hate the winter when its dark when you go to work and dark when you get home, so I love the lighter summer months. It makes the days feel so much longer and brighter and makes me feel like I've got a lot more time to do things. Really helps me fit in my daily exercise around work too and not having to do it in the dark. Dark evenings make me want to hibernate.

I live in an area called fortuna foothills Arizona...go ahead and wiki..15 miles east of Yuma metropolitan... anyhow the last sentence uses the word large to describe the winter visitor population... there is a much bigger word than LARGE

So when half of the 32 lots on our 1 of 3 sections of lane are empty.. imagine our summer gratefulness

A. We can now park at the front door of the massive Kroger super store
B. Since they're missing 60%of their customers...meat, deli, veggies and baked goods are continually discounted for savings and available for purchase
C. Traffic.... it's gone

Sorry.. when you live on the sunniest place on earth... summer gratefulness needs a whole different spin

And summer in Cape May means traffic and more traffic!! Love Cape May in the off season here!

I will keep you in my prayers for this to happen 🙏🏻

Happy Thursday Everyone

#1 - My Mickey Mouse Diamond Stud Earrings - My DH bought me these over 20 years ago and I wear them in my second piercing every day without fail.

#2 - Pandora Beads - My DH has made multiple Pandora bracelets for me over the years. I have one that’s a time life of my adult life, I have two Disney ones, and I have two other ones that are just fun ones. I love my Pandora bracelets. My DH and I also made a full timeline bracelet for each of our girls lives. There’s still room on DD21’s bracelet and there’s just enough room for two more beads to represent her graduating from grad school in three years.

#3 - My Rings - I have a lot of rings that I love to wear. I’m grateful for my wedding set, but I almost never wear it. I have different anniversary bands my husband has bought me and those are the ones that I wear every day. I also have a mother’s ring that my husband bought me 20 years ago that I never wear anymore. I think I’m going to pay a jeweler to take those stones and make them into a pendant so I can wear them as a necklace.

Thank you dear Slo so much.

A tiny smile, quick kind prayer or word, can make all the life changing difference in the world.

Holy Communion cups of non alcoholic grape juice.

Stickers to decorate notes with to I pray spread extra smiles and faith.

Every penny counts so coins to either roll or put into a Coinstar Machine that give dad and I extra money in a sense to use on needed and every now and then extra items.

Pounds - We don't think much about a singular pound in most cases, but I'm grateful each time that scale dips down another little pound.

Teacups - I inherited a number of little teacups from my grandmother's collection. They are all ornately detailed and sit in a display case on the edge of my kitchen.

AirPods - I have several different kinds of headphones but I inherited DD16s old ones after I got her some big Beats ones for her bday. I'm finding that I'm really fond of something smaller for walking and gym time.

Honorable mention - I can't say I'm truly grateful for these because I've never used them, but I have the most adorable little single serving crystal caviar bowl with a mother of pearl spoon. They are just so ridiculously cute and I love looking at them.

Couldn't agree more on the pounds! Even going down a few ounces is a blessing.

1. Safety pins - I don't go any where without a few safety pins in my purse. They're a lifesaver for any slight wardrobe malfunctions (and a sewing kit isn't at hand), or for those outfits that maybe reveal a little more than intended!

2. Hypoallergenic studs/hoops - I'm allergic to most metals so have a small collection of hypoallergenic studs and hoops that I wear religiously in my ears and nose. If I didn't have these, there'd be no jewellery for me.

3. Ear plugs - I'm one of those people that struggles with background noise, especially when trying to sleep or in places like the cinema, so ear plugs provide me with some much needed respite.

I'm still toying with the idea of a scale that does more than whole pounds. I've spent most of my life being a bit too emotional about the scale and I'm trying to find a happy place with it right now. Ounces could potentially help me on days when progress feels too slow but will I find myself obsessing over the smaller figures? It's quite possible with my history.

YES on the earrings gratitude! Gold is really my only safe bet but I can sometimes handle some higher quality silver. I have some friends who think I'm an oddball for not being able to just wear whatever in my ears.
