Three Things...Gratitude Thread

What a grateful weekend... folks downtown Yuma on the largest intersection showing their rights to protest.. walking their angst costumes through the crosswalks with the light protocol and not a negative reaction from the idling vehicles as folks put their beliefs on signs for all to see

What a grateful weekend that ABC gave the green light and encouraged contestants to share their hearts, to share their angst, to share their vision .. humanity...

I was four when I went to kindergarten - I seriously don’t remember any of it - that was like 100 years ago - I couldn’t tell you one solid thing I just know I went
I know it was all day school they didn’t do half days pass that point I have no clue 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
I’ll enjoy reading everybody else’s responses especially people in my age group and then maybe I’ll have some idea what I did in kindergarten because again I have no clue

Happy Monday Friends

When I went to kindergarten, it was much different than today. Back when I went to kindergarten, it was half day only, and we did all the things that kids do today in preschool or daycare. I didn’t go to preschool, and I started kindergarten when I was four. I had some friends, but I’m sure I still had to learn the following…..

I’m grateful for the following things I would have learned…

#1 - Getting Along With Different Kids

#2 - Sharing

#3 - Taking Turns

Popular isn't always best - I remember hearing a lot of hype about this one teacher. She'd been there forever and was sort of the school grandmother type. Mind you, she was very sweet and I liked doing activities with her class, but we got a young new teacher who was so energetic and full of ideas. So, I think our class ended up being more fun and benefited from some new methods and strategies.

Macaroni art - OK, who didn't love a good macaroni art project? My kids never did them, but I learned enough about doing them from my kindergarten days that I was able to do these kinds of projects with my kids at home when they were that age. My mom still has my gold macaroni Christmas tree from my time in kindergarten.

Love of the Stage - As a nearly lifelong performer, I have always gravitated towards the stage. Still, it was these early years that sort of solidified that love. My first stage experience was at 3, in preschool. I think they had to drag me off. It was so profoundly impactful that to this day, I remember the song word for word and note for note. I even still remember the choreography. I think my family thought it was a one time fluke until Kindergarten. Our holiday show and end of school year show gave me my next two stage opportunities. I was so jazzed about being on stage during the holiday show that I was ready to take over my partner's roles when she developed stage fright. I'm not sure how I was going to pull it off, but somehow, I thought it was possible for me to do it all and get more stage time. By the end of the year show, it was crystal clear that this kindergartner loved the stage and it was no preschool fluke. It set off years of me begging my mother for more opportunities.

No clear Kindergarten memory here either. I did attend a private school at that time and it was there I became close with a boy in my class. We sadly lost touch when my family moved before third grade.

As a preschool director and teacher I have organized and attended a few graduations of kids who were headed into kindergarten in the fall.

Happy Monday everyone :)

Joshua Tree national Park has 3 communities that are gateway to the massive geologic wonder and then the village Joshua Tree being the main entrance...39 miles between Western and Eastern communities.....so...in the 1960s...all kindergarten and high school students had to commute .
Morongo valley kindergarteners had the afternoon commute

I learned to stand in line and patiently still do this day and if the customer behind me has fewer items...I let them ahead of me

I learned that as the first born and the jewel of my grandmother r and her sisters that position had no privilege in school

Milk came in tiny cartons... that I had to throw away

Then we moved to the ranch in Joshua Tree and a fellow worker with my dad had a daughter, her name was Ruby and on my first week doing the morning shift she was instructed to be my guide.. so she held my hand all day... everyone needs a guide. It was only kindergarten students that commuted...each community had its own 1-5 grades

2 years ago I was down sizing my totes of journals and scrapbooks and came across the kindergarten report card and the only thing the teacher had to say was that I was very kind and offered to get her a chair during recess...5 years later I was honored with the highest honor in our elementary school...milk boy

I was nervous when I started kindergarten, and my teacher worked with my parents to have me bring a comfort item from home. - I learned teachers were kind and helpful.

I had a boy in a wheelchair in my kindergarten class. - I learned not to be afraid of disabled people.

We had a "letter of the week" and when it was the first letter of my name, my mom made cookies for the class in the shape of that letter...using a metal cookie cutter my dad handcrafted for her. - I learned my parents were very invested in my education.

Kindergarten was almost 70 years ago, but there are some things that have stuck around in my brain.
I loved to fingerpaint. Of course I didn’t realize it then, but I was a very sensory kid. (still am!) Loved clay and using paste. (loved the smell of paste!)
I remember making friends, but there was a boy on my bus who made fun of my apple butter sandwiches. (that may have been 1st grade)
I remember my bus pass was this cardboard and metal disc that hung from a string wrapped around a button on my coat or shirt. I must have been proud of riding the bus by myself. Maybe I was scared, but I don’t remember that. I was pretty adventurous when I was little and could find my way easily around my neighborhood of apartment buildings.
I remember the little milk cartons and how hard they were to open! They cost 3 cents. It was a huge responsibility to make sure I didn’t lose that money every day.

I have many memories of teaching Kindergarten, but that’s a whole other topic!

The Oceans and if course the Beaches I know y’all are tired 🥱 of me saying this 🤣🤣🚢🏖️🏝️ but I do love them - all the pretty seashells and the water 💧 is gorgeous and the fish 🐠 dolphins 🐬 whales 🐳 etc so nice to see !!

The Mountains ⛰️ I’m never gonna climb them God forbid but I do enjoy seeing them especially the ones in Alaska they are absolutely stunning 😍

Trees I absolutely love trees even though I can’t stand tree pollen I still love trees pine trees and palm trees are my two favorites
Of course it’s palm trees 🌴 why would it be anything else🤣🤣🤣🌴

And I have to do a bonus and mention my pesky little deer 🦌 and all the other little animals that we get to enjoy seeing in the wild that is my backyard I do enjoy watching the rabbits when they get playing with each other it is quite entertaining and I found it especially entertaining last week when my neighbors chickens that are free roaming roamed into my yard and my dog got to be outside when they were in my yard and he just stood there staring at them because he couldn’t figure out what they were and what they were up to and it was so comical he didn’t want to attack them but he was very confused by them and kept a good eye on them trying to figure out what they were up to it was quite hilarious

Happy HUMP DAY Friends

Red is my favorite color ❤️

#1 - My Hair Color - As in the dye, which is a L’Oréal box color. I get so many compliments on my hair color, and when people ask me where I get my hair done, I tell them in my bathroom for about $8.99 when on sale - LOL!

#2 - My Red Robes - I have a thick one for winter (I’m wearing it now) and a lighter one for summertime. I’ve had these robes forever and I love them.

#3 - Tomatoes - I love tomatoes, specially, when I put them in my wrap at lunchtime.
