Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I can’t pick 3
I just wouldn’t know where to begin I enjoy reading so much and I go through so many books and some have moved me some have brought me to tears I read one book that I was literally hysterically crying through it was such a moving story I actually wrote the author my family kept telling me to put the book down and I’m like I can’t it was just such a moving story I had to see it through I felt like I was right there with the person going through the experience it broke my heart just thinking about it right now makes me wanna cry But I just can’t pick one book over
I will say I’m extremely grateful that I read and I’m extremely grateful that I live somewhere where I am free to choose any book I want to read and I’m allowed to read it And I’m extremely grateful that I was not limited when I was younger on reading my parents did not limit us on books that we could read or couldn’t read and I’m extremely grateful for that
Yes I have read the Bible Very grateful that I’ve read it
I’m grateful for other books that I’ve read I read a lot of history books because it’s a subject I’m very interested in
I am most grateful for authors for storytellers because I cannot get through a day without reading a book or at least reading parts of the book even when I go on vacation I take a book with me I’ve been known to buy books at the airport Even though I have a book with me I may see another book that I want and I just buy it and I’ll start reading that book
I encouraged my children to read do they still read I hope so
I love the Harry Potter books I’ve read them several times I love the books about the kingdom keepers I’ve read them several times
If I watch a movie that I especially enjoy especially if it’s a history movie or period piece or about a person I will see if there’s a book about that Apple purchased a book and I will read it
I’m very grateful for books I like to hold a book in my hands I don’t use a computer or reader But it’s skinny so I might do audiobooks my eyesight’s not what it used to be🤣🤣🤣

Today's Topic (Fri, 4/3) - 3 books (or librarians!) that you are/have been especially grateful for

A few books  -

And a shout-out to my favorite school librarian ever: Mrs. W~~~ from my elementary school (grades 4-6). She was wonderful at connecting each of us with the right books, and absolutely marvelous at storytime - always "did the voices" and really made the stories come alive. I do the same when I read to kids, because of the example she set - and to this day, I can still hear her voice in my head when I read certain books.

I love libraries! I used to ride my bike to our local library and load up my bike basket every week.
There was also a small, very old library in a church building. It was more like a used book store than a library, but it was free. The librarian had this huge book and she would write the title, author, and your name and that was the whole system! She didn’t seem to mind me sitting on the floor and reading while I was deciding what to take out either. It had a great Nancy Drew section as well as science fiction and mysteries.
My daughter and I spent many hours in our local libraries. There were 3 in our town and the children’s sections were fantastic! The 2 smaller libraries are no longer there, so I consider us lucky to have been able to experience them.

God Bless Mrs. W dear PollyannaMom. I can feel through your words how much she cared. God Bless your church librarian dear Bluecastle. Your share reminds me of a used bookstore in the small town I went to college in. This bookstore had a seperate children's room. It was a fun and comforting way to sometimes relax by rereading some favorite kid's books while sitting in that room.

Sweet dreams and happy reading to all :)

Good Saturday Morning!

#1 - Roundup - I gotta buy some today to start spraying down the weeds growing in my rock.

#2 - Miracle Grow - A must for my flowers to grow big and full.

#3 - Our Outdoor Furniture - I’m looking forward to sitting outside and watching TV again at night. We have everything under a gazebo that has curtains that zip shut to prevent everything from getting wet and yucky.

My deck and gazebo ❤️❤️❤️❤️
My Egg Chair and patio furniture with pillows
My fire pit
Citronella candles to keep the pesky mosquitoes away
A fly swatter
Raid wasp spray if I can can’t get you with the fly swatter I’m gonna spray you with the Raid
The bug spray i use every spring around my house
Pine Sol - bugs hate it - I clean my garage with it every spring the scent is very overwhelming but bugs hate it
HOT Sauce - you are like that that’s not an outdoor thing yeah it is because it keeps that lizard away from my house they don’t like that either and so far that’s where it’s really well they keep that little sucker out of my house because he likes to stay in my house in my garage and around my front door of course it makes it look like a bloodbath every time I use it but it keeps him away
All the outdoor animals I get to enjoy seeing in my yard - from the bunnies playing to those pesky deer 🦌 those annoying squirrels 🐿️ and several other animals so I don’t care to run into when I’m outside with my dog - still waiting to see your bear 🐻

Each property has a 3.5 Mexico brick wall...each brick 3-5 colors depending on location in kiln

Each property has 1 pedestrian metal gate and 1 sixteen feet long drive way gate..we have 2. They slide or pull out.. ours slide behind the desert native salt cedar bushes that want to be trees

Each property has 4-6 doves..of which there are six varieties...and yes fences make for great neighbors... where as the doves are the neighbors you want to move away

So working in my desert 🏝️ 🏝️ Forest and a garage sale is happening down the street ...so thought I would give you some border culture... sales end noon and no Sunday sales...so pick up trucks from Mexico are driving thru the neighborhood/massive housing complex making deals or free stuff... this is the last weekend for sale before mid October..so a great need for inventory... trucks overloaded...🤔🤔🤔🤔 tariff culture???

Good Sunday Morning!

#1 - Afghans - I have several made my my grandma, my mom and my DH’s grandma.

#2 - Cloth Baskets - My MIL made these white baskets for my bridal shower that were the centerpieces for each table at my bridal shower. I still have a few of them. They are white with red bows (my color was red) and then she put goodies inside. They are lovely, and they took her a lot of time.

#3 - Christmas Ornament - My favorite ornament on my tree is the one my mom made about 55 years ago. I cherish it with all my heart.

When DD was young, my mom made all kinds of clothes for her: Aprons, dresses, sunsuits, costumes, etc. DD has them all, packed away carefully in her "Nana box." She's hoping that one day, she'll have a little girl who can wear them.

Dance costumes. As I've said before, DD is a dancer. I volunteered with the company she was in during her high school years, working as stage crew, costume mistress, and on the board of directors. DD graduated from high school and life moved on, and I didn't volunteer much anymore; there were other parents to take over. However, DD lives back here now and started dancing with her old company last fall. I volunteered to work on this weekend's show (Peter Pan... last time they did this, DD was Wendy) and was AMAZED to see they are still using some of the costumes that I made, decades ago! It was so funny to look around and think, "I made that, I bought that, I fixed that." (FYI, DD isn't Wendy this time- that'd be funny in a company of mostly high school/college aged dancers. She is in two corps pieces and is "Mrs. Darling" in the first scene, which is amusing because, if she'd changed her name when she got married, she'd be "Mrs. Darling" in real life, too!).

I 100% truly appreciate anything that anyone cooks here, whether it dinner or cookies or whatever. I'm especially grateful for DD's braised short ribs!

The Afghan my grandmother made for me when I was a kid in grade school❤️ she asked me what colors I wanted and it was my Christmas present I so love that Afghan and I still have it
The slippers my grandmother knitted me every year for Christmas i loved those things I’d get a pair every year and they’d have a little yarn bow on them they were so adorable❤️❤️❤️

All the homemade Christmas ornaments my kids made And some of the craft projects they made in school I still have a lot of them one kid did pottery she hated it I loved it I still have several pieces She also did a painting and I still have that too I still think it looks nice and have it Proudly displayed

Do you have a few things that I made when I was in junior high school I still have them displayed in my house from art class we took a piece of wood we carved it - I made a squirrel book end - We took rope and wrapped the yarn around it I don’t know what you call it in this big flat I don’t know what it’s called round it’s like the size of a super huge charger plate but it’s flat I still have it I still use it it still looks like it’s brand new and it’s really old but I still like it

I made a stand for my dish cloth to dry using a candlestick and a glass plate that I covered in paper and shellac it It looks like a mini cake stand I really like the way it turned out use it every day

I enjoy doing crafts - we used to do them almost every weekend when my kids were younger - It was something that My aunt used to do with me and my sister all the time we would go to the craft store and get a project and then we would do crafts she always had some craft planned for us to do we did all kinds of crafts we made stuffed animals we did paintings we did all kinds of crafts with my aunt it’s one of the fondest memories I have of my Aunt Is that she always had a craft planned for us Or some kind of an adventure for us she’s such a cool aunt I really wish she would’ve still been around with my kids were little I miss her so much😢❤️❤️

Grandma lovingly sewed pink felt sleeping bags for my Playmobile kids. I wish I had held onto a few of the figures and one of the bags. I can picture them and my beautiful grandma in my heart.

Dad and I God willing one day soon will enjoy pancakes at home together again. We use a favorite mix but our breakfast is still made with love.

Homemade cards are fun to make and I pray a way for me to spread faith, a smile, and care.

Homemade cards are a genuine token of love. The assistant pastor who leads our Tuesday Bible study makes cards by stitching for her congregation... unless you have a birthday in July and August...then you are out of luck... she is in Idaho
🥳🥳🥳😩😩😩🌲🌲🌲🥔🥔🥔🥔

A armadillo sits in my concrete managery of broken animals and I am very grateful for seeing him every morning as he borders the tiny garden patio made of Mexico brick and the patio is the only structural evidence of my ability to build

He is the size of a air fryer if you where lay the counter appliance sideways 🙀 🙀 🙀 of which I am sure the directions tell you not to do.

His leathery texture is created by 108 (12 rows of nine) flat round sun bleached abalone shell that would fit into the palm of your hand... unlike Humboldt current abalone shell that you could wear as head cap... they don't make for good bowls because gastropod molluse is recognized by respiratory pores in a row on the outer edge of the shell..and your right... gastropod is a fancy name for snail and they make for good eating🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌

It's a gift of gratitude to me...a lady came to our massive outdoor seen from space rummage sale to donate boxes of books... the receptionist at the camp trailer headquarters knew what to do... she was in my Bible study and has a hard time walking but she walked the distance to introduce us... during the conversation with the donating lady I found out she was stressed about cleaning out the estate due realtors time frame... with low 📚 📚 📚 donations.... I was free to help her .2 full pickup loads to the sales. She had been praying for help...I told her had it been anyone else at the reception area she would have been directed to the flatbed trailer to drop off the boxes but thru the grace of Jesus...I was her answer.... every morning I walk by that armadillo to view the rising sun... dawning another day of grace.

Outdoors:
Flowering spring trees
Fall foliage
Memories of being about 15-20 minutes from the beach when I was growing up

Homemade
Flyingdumbo: thank you so much for sparking the memory of someone making my sister and I handmade Barbie clothes. My family could not afford to buy us what most of our friends’ families could afford, and these clothes were stunning and unique. I remember a wedding gown made of a shiny material that seemed so luxurious. I just texted my sister to see if she could remember who made them. I’m guessing it was our grandma.
I have a bag of doilies and stickers for making homemade Valentines.
My sister made my daughter and I matching fleece blankets of our favorite hockey team. My sister has made many wonderful things going all the way back to when she made me a prom dress in high school! I can’t even sew a button on correctly. :)
