Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Monday Morning!

I’m going to focus on Thanksgiving…..

#1 - Candied Sweet Potatoes - my grandma always made these and I love them. When she passed away, she sadly took her recipe with her, because it wasn’t written down. I decided to take on her candied sweet potatoes and I feel that mine are close to hers, but not the same - they are still really really good. I only make these once a year and I look forward to them every year. So I am grateful to her for starting us with tradition of having these at Thanksgiving.

#2 - Corn Pudding, which is a cornbread casserole
- I got this recipe from a coworker about 25 years ago and I make it every year - we all love it! I’m grateful to that coworker sharing her recipe with me.

#3 - My Mom’s Stuffing - there’s not a whole lot that my mom makes that I can say I like, but I do love her stuffing. She has given me the recipe, but I’ve never tried making it myself. I’m grateful to her for taking the time to make this, and to keep the tradition of her stuffing going every year.

Happy Monday dear friends.

I pretty much eat the same food daily, my reply to today's question isn't very exciting. I know dad enjoys pumpkin or other autumn flavor of granola or dessert at Thanksgiving. He also gets other seasonal granola.

Dad in December really enjoys Starbucks Cranberry Bliss Bars.

Fell behind over the weekend...

Games
Another vote for softball 🥎- We’re finally about to start fall tournament play.
Jeopardy- I just love playing along with the tv.
Video Games- I like the more fun and lighthearted stuff where DH and DD15 like the adventure games that take you on missions.

Word of Gratitude
T- Turkey - The Thanksgiving thread had me thinking of turkeys and the sales that will start in just a few weeks. LOVE CHEAP TURKEY!
U- Umbrellas - Whether it's for shade or the elements, they're really helpful things to have handy.
R- Rings - I love my engagement ring and wedding bands...even if I can't wear them right now due to health reasons.
K- Kisses - Whether it's puppy kisses, the kids, loved ones or DH.
E- Eyes - Sight is a real blessing. You don't realize it until you need glasses or contacts and have to rely on something to help.
Y- Youth - We don't appreciate it enough while we're in it, but to be young, energetic, learning, and so hopeful.

Holiday Foods
Turkey- Not kidding...we love turkey and I'm still pretty sad that we lost a couple during our hurricane power outage.
Latkes- You know it's Hanukkah a when the house smells like potatoes/onion/matzo meal/egg frying in oil.
Cookies- Nothing says Christmas like batches of fun cookies.

1. Stuffing / dressing - for sure my favorite holiday food!
2. Rye bread and dip - this isn't really a traditional holiday food, but the only time we ever have it is during the holidays and I love it!
3. Broccoli salad - my cousin brings this to all of the holiday meals and again, one of my favorites that I only get on holidays!

I’m going to focus on Thanksgivings from the past when my mother-in-law did all of the cooking. We always celebrated Chanukah with my husband’s side of the family so our menu was not exactly traditional!
Matzoh Ball Soup
Potato Latkes (most people prefer them with applesauce, but I love them with lots of sour cream)
Turkey/gravy/stuffing/mashed potatoes!

Happy Tuesday

#1 - Ironing - I hate hate hate ironing! Have I expressed how much I hate it? But I am very grateful for nicely pressed clothes, because I also hate wearing clothes that are wrinkled.

#2 - This Election - I’m so tired of listening to the toxicness with this election, and I will be very grateful when it’s finally over.

#3 - The Price of Groceries - I get so frustrated after grocery shopping and seeing how little I got for the amount of money that I spent - it’s ridiculous! But, I’m extremely grateful that my husband and I both have good jobs and we are able to afford the groceries.

Amen about the election, Slo. What a privilege to be able to vote though.

Commercials. There seems to be more of them than ever. What a blessing to be able to see, hear, and also clearly think!

God willing one day everyday tasks such as laundry or cleaning will be joy. I pray to never take being able to do anything for granted again let alone normally.

The alarm going off in the morning - While my body can't sleep in the way it used to, it still would normally like to sleep in a bit more than it gets to. Still, if I'm up, that means I get to live and experience another day.

Going to work - It would be nice to have a day off, especially when it's so busy and we're beyond stressed out. Still, there are plenty of people without jobs (or good ones). So, I'm grateful to be able to be gainfully employed.

Washing my bedding - I loathe having to strip the bed and cram all of the stuff into the washer, but it feels so nice to sleep in a bed with freshly washed linens and blankets.

So many great ones!

1. I hate folding and putting away laundry, but I'm grateful to complete the task and not have to think about it for a week!

2. I hate having to be at work at 7 am, but I'm grateful to get off at 4:00

3. I hate coming up with what to eat for supper every night, but I'm grateful that we have plenty of food to eat and that my family isn't super picky and is fine with a do your own thing night sometimes!

HOLIDAY FOODS: -

Birthday Cake! (Another birthday coming up, so more cake as well!)

Stuffing and cranberry sauce.

'Pancake Day' crepes.

"Thankful turn-arounds" - take 3 complaints and turn them into gratitude

Morning Alarms. I don't like them in the moment, but I'm always glad once I'm up, especially a little earlier than usual.

Pulling up weeds., but I am so glad to have a garden and appreciate when it's not too wild!

Having to drop what I'm doing to deal with laundry that's finished washing or drying, but I am really glad to have the clothes/linens and that they are automatically washed and dried. Overall, my part in the process is small.
