Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Thursday Morning

#1 - Store Bought Canned Icing - I love it ❤️ a little too much - LOL! My mom makes my birthday cake every year so I can have a lot of canned frosting on it. It’s always a marble cake with chocolate icing :goodvibes

#2 - Ice Cream - DD21 and I both love ice cream cake. Cold Stone makes an awesome one where the bottom half is cake and the upper half is ice cream - so good!

#3 - Creative Designs - I love fun and creative looking cakes. Below is a picture of the cake we had made for her 21st birthday. We went out for Margaritas, so the bakery added that to the cake. I also told them what colors she loves and that was incorporated too. The bakery we use is the best!

Happy Birthday!!

1. My mom and middle DD used to make cakes together. They used fondant - I don't think fondant tastes great, but it makes super cute cakes. I'm glad they were able to do that for awhile together - great memories!

2. When my mom makes angel food cakes, she puts a light drizzle icing on the cake and it is my favorite!

3. For something "in" cakes - we used to make the jello poke cakes - so easy, and so yummy!

1. Buttercream - While I hate piping and decorating with the stuff, I love eating it. With store bought cakes, I always want a piece loaded up with buttercream decorations so I get some extra. For my cakes, I always have a generous buttercream crumb coat, but I do sometimes use it for decoration. I have a piping gun that I prefer over a traditional bag. My hands just can't take a ton of it.

2. Toppers/Decor - I like cakes to have crowning pieces to finalize the creation. I've also watched a few too many cake shows and have this requirement of myself that the topper and decor pieces must be edible. So, I'm thankful for things like gumpaste, tylose powder, and even chocolate.

3. Fondant - It is my preferred medium. These days, I usually get kind of lazy and will buy a better brand of premade, but I also know how to make my own marshmallow fondant. I have a love/hate relationship with the stuff, but I generally find it easier, it's a cleaner product, and works better for highly designed projects.

THINGS THAT OTHER PEOPLE MIGHT NOT LIKE 🙁🙃🙂

Mowing the lawn. I find it relaxing and satisfying.

Marmite. I don't know if any of you have tried it, since it's a British thing, but, even over here, it's marketed as you love it or hate it! I love it!

Vocabulary. ...Not in a competitive way, just in an "I like words and playing around with them" kind of a way!!!!

P.S. I also like organizing; I find meal planning really helpful (I find that, in practice, it ends up being more flexible) and I like snow! ❄️

CAKE THINGS 🧁

Buttercream ...and I'm with @TiggerTrigger, plenty of it!

Marzipan

Dark Chocolate

We have two cake-related holidays today (plus, it's my birthday) so...

Ooh, Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday @PollyannaMom

(Mine was recently and I had a decadent cake with 2 different sponges and 2 butter creams. 😋)

For something "in" cakes - we used to make the jello poke cakes - so easy, and so yummy!
I'd forgotten about those! My aunt used to make them, and I loved them!

For my other two:

Ice cream! - the kind of cake I had today. 🍨 🎂

Licorice (the "shoelace" kind) - because it reminds me of a particular birthday cake another aunt made me as a kid - it was a shaped like a cat, with licorice whiskers.

Happy Birthday, PollyannaMom!! Hope it was a great day!!
Happy belated Birthday, Tink! Hope you did something special!

I like crumb cake, so I guess cinnamon sugar crumbs on top would be one of my choices. (Though I can’t really eat that anymore- I used to buy an Entenmann’s Crumb cake every birthday!)

Not a big icing person. (Too sweet) But I have enjoyed chocolate cakes, layered cakes and flourless cakes, and I think I like chocolate ganache, but not really sure what it is. :)

TGIF Friends

I’m always grateful for the dancing yellow banana, but I won’t count that - LOL!

#1 - Red - I’m grateful for my red winter robe that I am wearing right now. It’s been cold in my house every morning lately - time to put my red Summer robe away :sad1:

#2 - Yellow - I’m grateful for bananas because it’s the only fruit that I can safely eat. I also love them because they are so portable when I go places. if I’m going to be gone for several hours, I usually always take a banana with me in case I get hungry.

#3 - Orange - I’m grateful for all my pumpkin decorations, especially the homemade ones made by my girls when they were little.

Red - Ruby Red Grapefruit - absolutely delicious!!! Love them as fruit or juice !!! So grateful I can drink them and they don’t bother my IC

Orange - it’s a good color for me and I love the look of decorating with Pumpkins 🎃 pumpkins just say fall to me !!

Yellow - the sun ☀️ love bright warm sunny days !!! Always improves my mood !!!

Good Friday morning friends :grouphug:

Dad's favorite color is red and I like it too, Christmas cheer. Grateful for dad's red :car:that takes him and God willing one day me, too, again safely places. pooh:shirt is also red :)

Orange brings me a smile to remember a late elderly friend Dean who loved the color. A preschooler named Peter who is now 21 did, too. I knew Peter from 2-4. Orange is also a color on my favorite pancake mix box and our soup pot.

Yellow is a joyful, sunshiney color. What a blessing it will be for me one day to be able to use my yellow bath towels to shower. I sute pray to never take being able to shower for granted again. Yellow :)

First off...my apologies @PollyannaMom - a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!!! I typed it and just realized I did something that typed over it. Hope you had an amazing day!!!

RED - I really love DD15s red pinstripe uniform. No, it's not just because it's easier for laundry (red primary, black pins). I just love a good pinstripe uniform and these really pop.

YELLOW - My Crocs are bright yellow and have been one of my preferred shoes since injuring my ankle.

ORANGE - I hate to be predictable and say anything Syracuse, so I'm going to say passion fruit (well, technically the pulp and juice, since the exterior is more of a dark magenta purplish color). It's not just my favorite tropical fruit, it's my favorite fruit flavor of them all. Juice, drinks, yogurt, smoothies, cake filling (great for mousse), etc.

RED - Main color for my favorite MLB team!

YELLOW - My mom's favorite color - my aunt had yellow siding on her house and I always loved it!

ORANGE - I'm actually wearing orange today, it's a fall burnt orange color, but it's a short sleeved shirt that works good for the fall. It's supposed to get up to 82 here today, so I can't completely switch to fall/winter clothes yet!

RED ...The car I learned to drive in. Plus, my parents let me practise a lot before I took my test. I'm grateful for that, too.

ORANGE ...Orange armbands from my swimming youth! I loved swimming and was fortunate to learn, because I know not everyone does.

YELLOW ...Sandy beaches.
