Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Cute Dresses - DD15 wasn't planning on going to homecoming because of our preliminary calendar for softball, but some things got shifted around and now she's free. It's really last minute, but we (DD, girlfriend, DD18 (phone) and another friend virtually) went dress shopping last night and it was a chorus of "OMG, that's so cute on you!" each time she came out in something that really suited her. Great memories and fun!

Puppies - First thing I thought of when I saw "cute."

Cute Shoes - It's been a little over 3 months since I've been able to wear shoes with a back, but I still love a cute shoe and am hopeful that I'll get back to a point where I can wear the rest of my shoes and do some shoe shopping.

Cute

Watching my DGD today stomping around in puddles, (so grateful we’ve only had to deal with rain, not anything like those in the path of Helene).

Watching baby videos of my DGD each night before I go to bed. It always puts a smile on my face to take upstairs with me and helps with my nighttime anxiety.

(Speaking of anxiety: just watched Inside Out 2 tonight and if you have anxiety and haven’t seen it, you must! Not that it isn’t amazing for those who don’t suffer panic attacks and everything else that goes along with anxiety, but it really hit me where I live)

I love the cute animal TV shows that they play at my dentist. Really helps to distract me.

Good Saturday Morning!

I have a lot of fragile items, but not a lot of delicate items.

#1 - My Wedding Dress - It’s professionally tucked away in a special box to prevent it from yellowing.

#2 - Mine & My DH’s Baptism Outfit - My girls wore my dress and maybe one day a grandson will wear my DH’s.

#3 - A Hand Embroidered Lace Christmas Runner For My Dining Room Table - My MIL bought this for me about five years ago and it’s absolutely beautiful - I use it every year. It’s hard to believe that I will be bringing it out in two months after Thanksgiving.

I don’t get delicate things often I break them !!!

Nice crystal glasses

Old China passed down - I have several serving pieces I treasure - used mostly for show as I don’t wish them to get broken

A really nice sweater - those really delicate ones - they look awesome and you have to be so careful washing them by hand and you only wear them once in a while because they are so pretty and so special

Happy Saturday!

Health! I have come to much better realize how delicate health is and the absolute blessing from God to me having it and being able to recover is.

Dad uses a small lamp by his bed that was my grandpa's. It's sentimental to us both. The on/off switch requires a delicate touch.

My two childhood stuffed animals Minty and Benjy are delicate due to being well loved throughout my life.

Ornaments - I love ornaments and have an obsession with Lenox porcelain ones. We’ve had some mishaps, including a tree falling incident, so I’m grateful for all the ones that have survived.

Life - While we’re strong people and have fought any number of struggles and battles, seeing some recent accidents as well as storm coverage also makes me keenly aware of its fragility and how grateful I am for each day.

Gum-paste bra- A while back, I made a cake for a friend’s charity fundraiser. It was quite an event…held in an art gallery with lots of press. All proceeds went to the American Cancer Society. All auction submissions were supposed to be bra related as a number of the founders were breast cancer survivors. I made a cake covered in framed edible images of the various survivors and I spent several weeks crafting a realistic edible bra as the topper. I looked for inspiration cakes, but everything was for bachelorette parties, so I decided to build something kind of like I was making patterns for a sewing project. It’s one of the most fragile things I’ve ever made and transported, but it got there in one piece and brought in a donation of nearly $500.

Good Sunday Morning!

#1 - My Morning Coffee - I’m always grateful for my morning coffee :surfweb:. I can’t start my day without it.

#2 - Propel - I love taking Propel to the gym with me - it’s my favorite drink when I work out :drinking1

#3 - Protein Shake - I make myself a protein shake every time I come home from the gym. It’s with a chocolate protein powder along with a peanut powder or a vanilla protein powder with a little bit of frozen peaches added to it. I use a Nutri bullet to make my shakes 🙂👍🏻

PollyannaMom, I also collected miniature glass animals as a kid! :)

My morning favorite hot 🍫from Ralphs, of course. Dad enjoys it every now and then, too.

Water, I drink like a 🐳and am so grateful to God that I have safe and clean water all-around.

Holy Communion 🍇juice. I don't drink alcohol at all by choice. I am grateful to the church I was so active in pre Covid for having non alcoholic grape juice.

Iced Coffee ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Milk 🥛
My occasional alcohol beverage - a glass of my favorite wine 🍷/ whiskey sour with Jack Daniel’s - my favorite whiskey 🥃/ a margarita- makes me think of EPCOT/ my most favorite a Paloma ❤️ since I love grapefruit juice this is one of my most favorite drinks!! 🍹

Water 💧 - hated drinking it as a kid - can’t drink enough as an adult !!!

Coke Cola ❤️❤️ I try to limit my soda addiction as I can drink gallons of it - I’m on a medication that changes the taste of anything with fizz - broke my heart the way soda tasted after I started this medication 💊 ( it’s for migraines) but I powered through and adapted to drink my beloved Coke Cola ( never Pepsi) I do regulate myself - love those tiny cans !!!

Mental lists at bedtime- I’ve recently come to realize that I can quiet racing thoughts that could keep me awake and create stress dreams by going through a ritual of making a detailed mental list about an enjoyable topic. I’m often asleep by the time I’m in my second or third bullet point.

The Sunday Call - For decades, we have had a weekly Sunday call/Facetime with my parents around dinner time. It’s been happening for close to 25 years, so I’d say it’s ritualistic. We do shift it from time to time if we’re traveling.

Lighting the Menorah during Hanukkah - When the girls were younger, we’d do little gifts every night which surely incentivized them to participate, but as they got older and moved away from the nightly gifting, they still really like to be involved in singing the blessings and lighting the candles. It’s just a nice little moment for everyone to come together.
