Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Happy Tuesday Friends

#1 - TikTok - a lot of people feel very negatively or think they should feel negatively about TikTok. It’s my lunchtime guilty pleasure. I follow several Disney related TikTok pages, that they make me smile every day. My DD21 and I are always sharing different TikToks to each other throughout the day, which is fun. I really do enjoy it very much.

#2 - FaceTime - FaceTiming with DD21 gives me so much joy, even now when the first thing she says is…..let me see my puppy :rotfl:

#3 - My Job - I am so grateful for my job every day and not because it’s a pay check. I love my job, I love my schedule, I love my boss and I genuinely enjoy seeing most of our patients. I leave my job most days with a smile, which is such a blessing.

Music - I used to love going to Concerts when I was younger I’ve been to a lot - I still do some upon occasion but it’s very rare because I’ve seen everybody I want to see and now it’s just an issue of they may die I better go see them one more time - but I enjoy music lots of different genres but music is tied through a lot of memories throughout my life and I absolutely love listening to music / I like cleaning my house it turned really loud / I always have it when I’m in the office - one job I had we would have Friday afternoons and listen to Caribbean type music so we could all pretend we were on the islands - I like listening to it to go to sleep / I’m very grateful for music 🎶

Animals - not just my pets - I enjoy seeing wildlife / it’s like a bingo card for me to pick off the wildlife that I have seen in my backyard I’m still waiting to see a bear I’m very confident that I will there is one within 5 miles of me so I believe someday not too far off in the distant future that I will see a bear 🐻 in my backyard - some people may be scared but not me I absolutely love bears and will be thrilled to death I happen to see one wandering around in my backyard - bet I would be like bingo cards full !! Trust me I’ve seen just about everything else !! I’m always grateful to be able to see wildlife in my backyard and I was extremely grateful to see so much of it when we went to Alaska and yes I got to see Bears 🐻 Even though the salmon wasn’t running yet I even got to see little little baby bears 🐻

I don’t want this to sound crass or anything but I’m very grateful for all the decorating items I’ve collected over the years it brings me great joy to decorate my house I don’t mean just for holidays I mean like every day decorating / decorate the fireplace mantel table in front entry / room decorating / dining room table you know things like that I’m very grateful for all the items I’ve collected over the years and I have a lot of items but I do enjoy doing it I’m very grateful for what I have!!

Collections - I have to be careful with this because it can easily cross over into obsession, but I really like having "pieces" to make a set or a family. Still, it makes me happy when I can take out my pieces to one of the collections...especially if it's something I can display or use together.

Driving - I really like just getting in the car, putting on some good music and driving. I think this is why I like road trips.

Travel Booking/Planning - While I really like the actual travel components, I have entirely way too much fun digging for deals and putting the pieces of a trip together.

Schedules/plans. We have a joke in our family; we say that scheduling is my super power! I need to have plans made, in advance, and fairly detailed. It just makes me happy to know that everything is in its place, everyone knows where they need to be and when, that all the details for a trip are nailed down and included, etc. (I'm especially fairly obsessed with travel planning, although DD31 tells me I've gotten better about it over the past few years.

Dance/Ballet. I used to dance when I was a kid, and loved it. I got DD into dance and she ended up dancing professionally for several years as well as teaching. I adore watching her perform, especially in ballets. I could cry, watching her and her coworkers. I also love to GO to ballets. DD was in a touring company of Nutcracker for 10 (?) years, where they'd do 8-10 performances a season. I went to almost all of them- and to this day I remember a lot of the traditional choreography for some of the pieces. I love sitting back in the dark, listening to the music rise, and watching the magic on the stage.

Disney makes me happy. Didn't go to WDW until I was in my 40s, never been to any other park, I've lost count but I think it's over 35 trips, and I still choose to go as often as possible. I also have joyous, heartwarming memories of watching the Disney movies of the 90s and 2000s with my DD and my nieces, singing the songs laughing and watching the shows. I know it's silly and juvenile, but it's where my heart lies.

Today's Topic - 3 things you're grateful for just because they make you happy

Big sky views. Not the metaphorical ones(!) - the actual ones.

The weekday morning show on Radio 2, with Vernon Kaye. Plus, the fact that I can stream it anytime, so I can listen to it more regularly. Plus, music, generally!

Dancing. All kinds. Professional and ...amateur!!! Dancing in unison, dancing for joy, dancing with abandon, dancing with precision. :dance3:

Spontaneous games with my DGD. Today we pretended it was Christmas. She made decorations and I played Christmas music on my phone. One of my saved videos is of one of the WL fireplaces while Christmas music plays. Bonus happiness :)

I also showed her one of my favorite WDW souvenirs, a refrigerator magnet of the monorail that plays announcements (including the famous one) when you press a button. I can always get a dose of happiness when I play that.

Learning new things (facts, WDW info, words) always makes me happy.

Sting - he could sing me the phone book and I’d be like that was awesome!!! I’ve seen him in concert several times always an excellent show

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - another group I’ve seen several times - I enjoy their swing music 🎶 and often listen to them at work

Disney Music - this covers a wide range of music 🎶- through Disney I’ve discovered all kinds of music to listen to and enjoy and I’m very grateful - From the Eat to the Beat concerts / movies / Park Music / music from EPCOT countries etc - I especially loved when Downtown Disney had that HUGE music store - I discovered lots of new music browsing in there from new artist not in mainstream radio I so miss that store !!!

Happy HUMP day, friends

#1 - Our Wedding Song❤️

#2 - Mine and DD21’s Song - I look forward to playing this at her wedding someday and having us dance to it on the dance floor. It’ll be fun and it’ll make everybody smile, mostly us ❤️

#3 - Mine and DD26’s Song (which makes me cry - many know why). I’m happy to say there’s some slow progress with her and we are speaking again. This was our song from the minute Tarzan came out. Lately, this song is everywhere, which has been painful to hear with the situation with our DD26. But even though this song makes me weepy every time I hear it, I’m still very grateful for it. I used to sing this to her all the time.❤️

Ringo Starr - DD18 is absolutely obsessed with The Beatles. At the end of 2018, I took the family to see Cirque du Soliel's LOVE at the Mirage in Vegas and DD was hooked. She will never have the opportunity to see them all together in concert, but last spring/summer...a series of Ringo Starr related things started popping up in my life. It was topped off by his image appearing briefly on the big sign at the Winstar as we were speeding by on the interstate. I was the only one in the car that saw it. I have some regrets about never taking the leap to see some of the surviving band members of my favorite group, so this evolved into this big plan to surprise DD with a trip to see Ringo in concert. I may not be obsessed like DD, but I do really like the Beatles and still can't believe that we saw one of them live. So, I am grateful that this man in his 80s is still doing annual tours with a bunch of other amazing musicians.

Jim Morrison - I don't know what it is about him and The Doors, but they have always been my #1. He was the image on many a poster in my dorm rooms! Yeah, my aunt and uncle played their music a lot and my parents allowed me to play their copies of the various albums, but I knew nearly all of the first album by the time I was 4. I sadly never had the chance to see them together with Jim at the lead, but I do regret not jumping on an opportunity to see Ray Manzarek (keyboardist). I believe he was touring with Robby Krieger and possibly Robert Smith from The Cure doing vocals.

Night Fever - This was my theme song through a chunk of college, but I've loved it since the 70s while listening to disco with one of my younger aunts in her bedroom. I was never a big one for getting out on the dance floor, but this was one of the few songs that I couldn't resist. There were even times where people played along and would do the dance from Saturday Night Fever. Fun fact- whenever Stayin' Alive comes on, you often see people doing the famous Saturday Night Fever dance...but in the movie, that dance is most commonly associated with Night Fever. I'd attach the video from the movie, but I don't think everyone wants to see Travolta's Tony Manero in his underwear. So, I'll give you the Bee Gees (that I also LLLLOOOOOOVVVEE).

@slo... It breaks my mother's heart to hear you speak of your older daughter, and I'm glad to know there is some slow progress. Hugs to you always.

"You'll Be in My Heart" is also near and dear to me. It was at its popularity height when my sister's mother-in-law died. This was a woman our family had known for 45 years, and she was as much my mother-in-law as my sister's, she was DD's Gram just like she was Gram to my nieces. My heart broke a bit when she died, and listening to this song on the 11 hour drive home from her funeral made me cry. Still pulls at my heartstrings.

Another vote for Disney music
🎶 :mickeyjum 🎶

Dolly Parton
- I really enjoy her music and I love her charitable efforts (Imagination Library, etc.) 🎸📚

The theme to Gilmore Girls - I've been re-binging the show lately, and it just makes me happy to sing along. 🍁🍂🍁
Did you hear about Kelly Bishop’s new book, The Third Gilmore Girl? Also, Lauren Graham showed up at one of her book events!
One of my very many favorite GG’s moments is when they walk down the runway in those red mother daughter outfits to Girls Just Want to Have Fun!

I have so many favorite songs, I’m just going to see what spontaneously pops into my head:

My DH and I sang One Hand One Heart from West Side Story at his brother’s wedding. I still love that and Somewhere. I love the whole soundtrack. I saw the movie when I was 9 and my parents couldn’t leave the theater at the end because I was crying so hard.

Stevie Wonder’s “Another Star” really spoke to me when I was going through the end of my first marriage. So did Fleetwoood Mac’s “Chains” when I was feeling especially angry.

“Try Everything” from the end of Zootopia was my theme song when I was going through my cancer treatment. I don’t know if anyone here was ever an Ally McBeal fan, but on the show her therapist, Tracey Ullman, tells her she needs a theme song, and that idea has always stuck with me.

Honorable Mention: Earth, Wind, and Fire’s Fantasy always raises my spirits.
