Roseate spoonbills- The other large pink bird We used to see them all the time when my parents lived St. Pete area. I’ve seen a few flying here as well.

Pink Party- it was a college thing. I’m not really a big fan of wearing pink, but it was so fun for the spirit of this event.

Princess blankets- about 10 years ago, our girls insisted on sharing a bedroom, so we redecorated with a Frozen theme. It was all dismantled and painted over when we put our last house on the market, but we kept the pink Frozen themed comforters. DH and I still use them when we’re in the family room and cold. They match nothing, but they’re still cozy.

Pink Things

Pink-mottled skies in the evening -- it's relaxing, beautiful and a sign of finer weather.

Strawberry creams - in dark/milk chocolate - and coconut ice.

In my late teens/early twenties, a high street store sold a blue-pink lip gloss, which I loved! It still stands out in my mind.

Oh, and pink grapefruit!

The song Pink Moon, by Nick Drake. I heard it on a VW commercial and became a bit obsessed. Always happy when it comes up on my Spotify list, even though the piano is so out of tune!

It’s my DGD’s favorite color and she always insists that I add it when I draw a rainbow.

Anytime there is pink in the sky it makes me happy. I vaguely remember a conversation between Bert and Ernie where Ernie says the sky is pink and Bert insists that it is blue, but then they see pink in the sky.

First house with AC ? The house I grew up and did not have AC we had window units and when I say we had window units I mean my parents had one and we had one in the living room so we were lucky to get some of the air from their bedroom and Summers around here are miserable so happy when I got my own place and it has central air
I remember visiting Alaska and it was in the upper 70s and they were all complaining about how hot it was and we were enjoying the weather tremendously but you know they don’t have air-conditioning up there and they were like how can you stand this ? I’m like compared to where I’m from this is beautiful weather but I wouldn’t want your winters
I’m glad you have air conditioning now for this heat wave !!

Ok, I should clarify. Our first house with central A/C.

Our current house of 18 yrs was much like yours growing up. Me and DW had a window unit and the kids would pile up on the floor for the night. As they got older it slowly progressed to each of them having a window unit in their own room.

Pink things...

Pointe shoes. I love ballet, and DD is a dancer (although she is just teaching now). When I see pointe shoes, I think of seeing DD dance, all the performances she's been in, watching her with her friends, etc.

Cotton candy. Guilty sin, hardly ever eat it as it's sooooo sweet, but there's something about the texture that I can't resist.

Pink lilies in my garden. I think they are Stargazer lilies? So pretty.

Today's Topic (Mon, 6/24) - 3 things you're grateful to have used in new, unusual, or unexpected ways.

Good Morning

#1 - Salad Tongs - I use Dollar Tree salad tongs for cleaning the guinea pig cage. I don’t know what made me start this 8 years ago, but the are very helpful. Obviously I only use these for her cage and nothing else.

#2 - Laundry Baskets - I use them for more than just laundry. For example… in the winter I put them in the car to put all the grocery bags in so I don’t have to go in and out of the house a lot.

#3 - Kleenex Box - I have those footie things to put over your shoes when you want to wear shoes in the house. I keep them in an empty Kleenex box by the front door. DD20 and DH will use them when I’m home, but I think they don’t when I’m gone I have no proof, just a hunch - LOL!

Good morning

A plastic dish pan is what dad and I use as our Epsom salt with warm water soaking tub.

Dad and I use a small bookcase and 3 shelf storage cabinet to hold extra food and household supplies.

A plastic hanger makes a great extra washcloth holder.

Garlic press as fondant extruder- I still like it better than any cake/decorating specific tools. I’ve used it to make fondant tassels and fringe as well as fondant rice for a sushi roll cake.

Water bottle noisemakers- this is more of a school ball thing. People fill single use water bottles with unpopped corn kernels (sometimes painted and glittered in school colors) as cheap and festive noisemakers.

Old suitcases for storage- we have a few suitcases that are too beat up to be trusted for travel, but they make good storage vessels for things like sweaters and ski gear.

Shoe Boxes little Contact paper and you have a storage box
Laundry baskets - universal storage haul anything hold everything / kitty prison / puppy holding system - item ever made !!
Ice cream buckets - great storage item once you dispose of the ice cream They also work really well as a paint bucket
Scrap wood - leftover pieces from projects recycling to making other projects - you just never know when you might need that piece of wood just that size !! Trust me it’s happened !!
Left over drywall - I’ve put to good use scrap pieces of drywall for small repairs just this past week ! Very thankful that I had them as I did not wish to go purchase a half sheet of drywall for the tiny repairs that I needed to make !! Two pieces of scrap I had probably were not worth saving but I’m so glad I saved them - toilet paper holder fell out of the wall left a gaping hole - so thankful I had the scrap drywall to patch that hole !! For full disclosure I’m not bragging but I will anyway it turned out beautiful!! It helps I’ve had practice finishing a basement before

Finally I save all nuts bolts screws nails anything like that you never know when you might need one and it just might be the correct size !! So if I get rid of something I keep the nuts bolts screws nails etc. that way if I need one I probably have it!!

OK, I'm going to need some tips and pointers! I have scrap drywall in my garage (including some larger pieces) and several projects needing attention once our summer schedule winds down. The two smaller projects sound similar to what you just described. I have enough material for the larger project, but it may be more handyman territory.

The laundry basket in the car trick is a game-changer! We've used them to cart things to and from holiday gatherings for years.

I cut the bottom off quart milk jugs to turn dressing or condiment bottles upside down in the fridge without having them constantly falling over.

When DS was little, I made him a set of those huge blocks by covering various empty cereal and other kitchen boxes with contact paper - cost about 20 cents on the dollar compared to the catalog version.

UPCYCLING

I have a shelf unit, for which I managed to get 6 baskets - with substantial wooden handles - that fit perfectly in size and style --- turning it into a drawer unit.

I use disposable shoe covers over the top of rubber boots to keep bugs out!

One of the lovely things about teaching younger children is this very creativity of upcycling for storage/ props/ learning support etc..

I cut the bottom off quart milk jugs to turn dressing or condiment bottles upside down in the fridge without having them constantly falling over.

This is just what I need to corral some rogue hydrosol and essential oil bottles in a fridge door! I was thinking of buying some small containers to fit, but milk containers are already made to fit. Brilliant!

OK, this is gonna sound stupid, but it's summer, it's hot, and when I get a cold drink while driving anywhere, condensation collects on the cup and soaks the cup holders in the car. I use a mask as a drip-diaper. Put one ear loop around the the left side of the straw, stretch the mask to the right and down under the cup, up the other side, and put the other ear loop around the right side of the straw. Presto! No more puddles in the cup holder!

I try to reuse everything:

I reuse old and mismatched sheets by folding them and storing in a ziploc in cars for a quick picnic blanket or thing to sit on, it is nice for scratchy wood picnic table seating & can even be used to mop up a mess.

I reuse all the twisties on/in packages for Christmas lights, they work great to secure decorations on bannisters and plant branches.

I reuse milk containers to keep water near the doors in the summer months so keeping up with the potted plants is easier for me and everyone else in the house.

So many great ideas here!
I reuse ziplocs for many things: sorting papers, keeping rubber bands and other junk drawer items separate from each other, and storing many of my DGD’s toys and puzzles. I also use them on Disney trips.
Speaking of my junk drawer, I have tiny items stored inside old film containers. (IYKYK)
As a teacher who was a well-known Disney fan, you can imagine how many Disney mugs I received as gifts over the years. I cannot part with them, so I use them for most of my pens, pencils, permanent markers, and all sots of office supplies.
