Three Things...Gratitude Thread

The Sound of Music - because it's one of the few tapes I had when I was away at college (in the middle of nowhere) and couldn't get reception for regular TV.

Yes!!!!! I cannot believe I forgot this one from my list. The movie itself is a classic and always a bring the family and friends together kind of event. The soundtrack is great for putting on a concert while sitting in traffic. I feel that angry rush hour drivers are less likely to fall into road rage when they can overhear you belting out The Lonely Goatherd. It's also one of the few classic movies that I can say I've visited actual filming locations (and may or may not have tried to act out portions of certain scenes).

Now & Then - It's the last movie I watched with my mom before she passed, so it's kind of a comfort movie for me.

Seconding the Harry Potter movies - i love when there's a marathon of them on, and I know I'm watching them "with" other fans from all over.

Now & Then. I haven't seen that in ages. I must watch it again. And I'll think of you and your mom.

I just searched Now and Then and the only place that I seem to be able to watch is Prime for rent. I'm always amazed at the number of streaming services we have, yet I can never find something to watch, lol. I have zero recollection of this movie. I suppose 1995 was a busy year with two busy little boys and pregnant with number 3 so I the 90s are often a blur. I also know very little music from the 90s.

1. The Lion King: oldest Dd loved this movie when she was little. We watched it so many times. It inspired the name we gave our dog—Nala.
2. Christmas Vacation—we always watch it at some point during the holiday season and often quote different lines all year long.
3. Toy Story series—these are really special too.

:grouphug:Sweet dreams with love to all. I appreciate all of your shares always. PollyannaMom, hug extra on Now and Then. Thank you also for the reminder to watch it as it has been years since I have done so! Rigby is an adorable doggie name. What's funny is I have a friend whose last name is Rigsby and remember a children's book with a dog by that name in it.

Have a cozy good night everyone!

Christmas Vacation- seems to be a very popular choice. Never gets old. A true classic!

Toy Story - DD24 absolutely loved this movie growing up. DD18 followed suit and now is one of our fav rides at DL.
Can't believe this was released in 1995

Star Wars - From the originals to the Mandalorin. Spanning generations, Iconic. (excluding Jar Jar Binks)

Try the library if you still own a DVD player. Mine has more movies than I thought it would.

Henry & Ribsy, by Beverly Cleary?

Good Wednesday Morning!

It’s been a long time since I thought about this topic.

#1 - H2O - I’m combining these because I love drinking water.

#2 - Magnesium - I take it every night to help with muscle pain & sleep

#3 - Zinc - Keeps us healthy

Nitrogen: it makes up 78% of the air we breathe. Oxygen is there at about 21% with a whole bunch of other elements and a couple of compounds composing the last 1%.

Americium: As isotope of this is in the smoke detectors in our homes.

Carbon: Found in almost everything, everywhere; what would we have, if not for carbon? Also, carbon-14 lets us trace the age of things. I find this fascinating.

(Yeah, I kinda went out on a limb with this one!)

As I sit here breathing, I should probably say nitrogen or oxygen...but I'm going to go a different route. Not that I'm not grateful for it, but this is a fun exercise and where else I can place my gratitude in a different sort of way.

1. Mercury - Toxicity aside, before everything became digital or alcohol based, we relied on mercury for things like thermometers and barometers. There was a maze game called Quicksilver that was also really visually gratifying as a child.

2. Aluminum - The number of items we use and need on a daily basis that contain aluminum is mind boggling. It also is highly recyclable.

3. Gold - Several earlier generations of my family were jewelers. By my grandfather's era, there were pre-produced pieces from third party vendors in the mix, but like those before him, he was also skilled in design and repair. While they worked with the other precious metals as well, gold seemed to be the lifeblood of the business. It kept food on the table and left future generations with lasting legacies.

Today's Topic (Wed, 2/7) - 3 elements you're grateful for

He - Helium because it's fun and I love balloons even tho I think they have fallen from favor these days.

Pt - Platinum because that is what my new ring set is made from.

K - Potassium because I try to have some daily or I get terrible leg cramps.

Today's Topic (Wed, 2/7) - 3 elements you're grateful for
Oh my, this one is above my pay scale! Still I will try. First I am listing what I easily found

  • Earth elements: oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium
  • Water elements: hydrogen, oxygen
  • Air elements: nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide
  • Elements of life: carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur
  • Elements in space: hydrogen, helium, oxygen, carbon, neon, iron
  • Metals: gold, silver, copper, iron, zinc, tin, lead, nickel
Now to pick!
Calcium is one I take every day for my bones. I am 5’10” and at 77, I still am about as tall as I was in 6th grade when I stopped growing.

Aluminum is one element that is used then recycled into more things, I think that’s good.

Next I will pick two, oxygen and carbon dioxide, because I am a gardener and appreciate the relationship between humans and plants.

:wave:Good afternoon to all with a Wednesday hug,

I am not a science lady though when I was younger especially always wished I was naturally talented in it. I absolutely enjoyed as always all of your kind and thoughtful shares.

I also drink water like a 🐳so definitely H2O

Bobbi, I am blessed with height at over 5'8"Strong bones are indeed important as I sure have learned extra with my feet issues! Calcium, too, is indeed a grace especially as found in warm cocoa :D

Great answer to all who said aluminum! Dad and I sure use a lot of foil. I also use plastic wrap.

Definitely the blessing of oxygen and clean air!

PollyannaMom, big hug and you know I am a Ribsy fan, Henry, too! Thank you again for reading some of their adventures with me last year, that was such fun. Rigsby the dog is the pet of Lauren in a children's series called Friends 4-Ever. I had never heard of this series until about 10 years ago. I no longer have the series but I did enjoy reading it a couple times. There was also a smaller known series called Pen Pals. I liked some of those but nowhere near as much as the Friends 4-Ever. Should any of you be up for rereading any favorite kid's books please PM me. PollyannaMom and I did enjoy doing that together last year. I would enjoy doing so again this year. I have some Boxcar Children and some Baby-sitters Club books also the My Secret Unicorn Series.

I asked this in the kindness thread and will here, too. should any of you go to IHOP or Wendy's please PM me. I have an IHOP favor to ask and a Wendy's treat to offer :) Thank you:grouphug:
