Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Thursday Morning!

#1 - College Softball Season begins - DD20’s first game is on 2/17. It’ll be outside, it’ll be cold (northern Indiana), but this proud mama gets to see her girl do her thing for another season ❤️🥎 It also means that I get to see DD soon - I miss her so much when she’s at school, but it is getting easier.

#2 - Lent begins - Ash Wednesday is on Valentine’s Day this year.

#3 - My MIL’s birthday - it’s always wonderful to celebrate another birthday with our parents.

Today's Topic (Thu, 2/1) - 3 things you're grateful for about February

I'm grateful that our kitchen remodel will begin this month. I can't wait to have a brand new kitchen!

I'm grateful that my daughter-in-law will celebrate her birthday this month. She is a wonderful addition to our family and the perfect match for my son.

I'm grateful that we will be traveling to Maryland and staying with our best friends who we haven't seen since early December. We used to have dinner together nearly every weekend when we lived there so this has been a big adjustment and we miss them a lot.

Happy February everyone!

February

Early thoughts of spring. Via slightly lighter and brighter days; daffodil shoots looking promising; sheep out in the fields.

The Super Bowl. I always watch, even though it's sooo late here!

I have a particular nice travel art calendar this year (I don't write on it, it's just for the aesthetic) - so, I appreciated turning over to a new month, today.

Ooh, a new kitchen! Exciting. What kind of design have you chosen?

And Happy February to you, too.

Yes!!!! This will probably go in mine as well. We have a friend whose daughter is a freshman at Purdue. So it's her first year playing college ball, but I think their home games start in March. Indiana winter is a big change from the Houston area!

My oldest will be 24 this month(not sure how grateful I am to realize what that means for my age lol)

One step closer to Spring(especially here in CT where it will get to 44 today-I'm sure it will get frigid again, but I will take it!)

Things slow down for a little bit mid month before Spring activities start up again

1. Softball - While we've got some pre-season scrimmages and early tournaments in the mix, high school ball officially starts on 2/13. DD15 is a freshman, so it's a very exciting time for her. We're also really excited for the start of college softball. We have a number of freshman from our area we're hoping to watch. It also marks our streaming shift. Every year, we make an annual shift to ESPN+ so we can watch college ball all the time.

2. A College Decision - This will be the month that DD17 makes her choice. She applied to 14 schools, she's received 13 acceptances thus far, and today is the day that school 14 is supposed to send out decisions. No matter what happens, she has a lot of amazing options. The mom in me wants her close enough that I could hop in the car and be there in no more than 6-8 hours. The 17-18 year old in me wants her to pick someplace new and fresh that would require a plane ride and immersion in something completely different.

3. Mardi Gras - I think we actually have next weekend free, so we may go down to Galveston. At the very least, we'll have some decent Cajun/Creole food, drink some hurricanes, and have some beignets and king cake (I don't like king cake, so more beignets for me!).

We live in the Outer Banks of NC so the theme is beachy. Cabinets are white and appliances are fingerprint resistant stainless. Countertops and backsplash are in grays, blues, and beiges. Flooring is LVP in a whitewashed oak.

Next is finding a new dining room set that will fit the theme. We have a gorgeous dining set that we're selling to our son as it is too formal for this house.

Thanks for asking. We're very excited and this is not an inexpensive venture.

TGIF Friends :cool1:

Red is favorite color

#1 - My red robe - I’m wearing it now - it’s thick, fuzzy and warm - I love it!

#2 - Rubys - My favorite gem. DD25 was born in July, so that gave DH a great reason to buy me Rubies and for me to wear Rubies.

#3 - Cardinals - Luckily we have several around here. Every time I see one close to me, I think of my grandma and that she’s keeping a watchful eye on me.

Blood !! You may think that’s a weird answer but I lost some once and I thought you could lose a bunch and be OK and I found out I was wrong so I’m grateful for my blood and wish it had more iron most of the time

All the red cars I’ve ever owned - red is my favorite color so most of the time I would get a red car because it’s my favorite color

My fuzzy red gloves they’re big and plush and very warm !!!

Red ❤️to remind someone you care. Valentime's Day, too. Dad's car is bright red. How thankful to God I am that He uses that car to take dad safely on the road. Memories of my first red car.

Red is dad's favorite color and one of mine. Pink is my favorite. I have a red blanket on my bed, red parka, and dad and I enjoy our red couch. Christmas stockings are red of course too :)

Dad and I share each day a time of extra communion with God as we enjoy Campbell's Chicken Broth together. The can has a red label.

Mickey wears red and so do Pooh and Pluto!

This is tough as I am not a red person.

1. Colleges - DD17 applied to and was accepted to 14 schools. Out of them, 10 of those 14 have red in their official colors. So, I'm grateful for all of these red loving schools that have granted her admission and have been so generous with their merit offers. One of those 10 red schools is my parents' alma mater. That's where they met. In fact, a lot of my family and childhood friends have ties to that school...so an extra little nod to that one.

2. Uniforms - DD15s travel team is currently part of a club that has a lot of red in the color scheme. In fact, her red pinstripes are our favorite uniform. There are a number of pluses with being with this organization, so I'm grateful for this red team in our lives.

3. Red meat - I know it's not looked at as the healthiest of proteins, but I love a nice rare steak. Sirloin and filet mignon are usually my cuts of choice, so a bit healthier (vs. DH's preference for a ribeye). We also really like things like bison, elk, venison, and even lamb if I'm eating shawarma.

That sounds beautiful. No wonder you're excited about it.

I like the sound of 'fingerprint resistant', too!
