Three Things...Gratitude Thread

My Crocs. I have all kinds of hip/knee/ankle issues as well as my right arch having fallen when I was pregnant and my right foot is over a size larger than my left foot. Crocs are the only shoes I can wear that don't send shooting pains up into my knees, and because they fit loosely the difference in the size of my feet doesn't really matter.

Salt and pepper shakers. I have a collection of them, from vacations, from relatives, or just very interesting pieces.

My holiday socks. I wear Christmas socks every day between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. I think I have enough pairs that I could say I wear a different pair every day, but I actually have about 10 favorites that I wear most of the time.

I grew up going to summer camp. Later I was a counselor, and I love campfires and singalongs and toasting marshmallows!

Recent trip to Shenandoah where we made s’mores with family around campfire at their site.

WDW resorts where we have toasted marshmallows many times with family and friends. Here’s Tom roasting one for me earlier this year!

Happy HUMP Day!

I love making burnt marshmallows over a fire - love love love them!

#1 - I’m grateful for having autumn fires with our neighbors - great memories over the last 19 years.

#2 - I’m grateful for the autumn fires we made in our driveway with our girls - we’d go all out for them - hotdogs for them to make over the fire along with s’mores and other things - they loved doing this - they were great family nights.

#3 - I’m grateful for the large autumn fire parties we had for our girls high school groups - for DD25 it was the theater company and for DD20 it was for the softball team. I was always impressed with how well behaved and respectful these kids were. They were fun nights.

1. As a kid, one of my grandma's had a gas stove and I'd never used one before. When we spent the night, we would make toasted marshmallows on her stove and I thought it was the best thing ever!

2. During homecoming week, our high school has a bonfire on Wednesday night - it's such a fun night for the kids. I have great memories of it myself and then from the stories of when my kids went to it.

3. One of our friends hosts us outdoors a few times each year with seating around a firepit. So much fun!

Not a marshmallow fan. I vaguely remember once reading a book with a cute dog named Marshmallow in it :)

Church camps
Memories of as a kid loving homemade Rice Krispy treats--marshmallow exception lol.

Memory of once as a preschool director bringing in (already made smores) for the kids and their fun at a pretend campfire).

When I was younger, I loved graham crackers in general especially cookies covered with chocolate or chocolate frosting. Champ and I both loved Golden Grahams cereal.

Grandma Dolores LOVED all things candy and chocolate :)

Man, do I love sitting around a campfire at night. I was a Girl Scout/Sea Scout for 13 years, a camp counselor for 3 summers, a troop leader for 4 years. I have sat around many campfires with friends, singing, sharing food, making memories. This picture floods my mind and heart.

Living outdoors, sleeping in tents, cooking and cleaning over open fires. Really roughing it, and getting back to nature. There is just something so satisfying about being able to do it all yourself.

Also brings back my memories of my road trip with DD, totally spontaneous, no plans made. No hotel reservations, just a stocked minivan with sleeping pads and a tent. We looped from our home in Maine into NH and VT, then down thru NY, across MA, and back home. We slept outside the whole time, either at a campground or in the minivan (and yes, I HAVE slept in a Walmart parking lot)! It was amazing fun and something she and I will remember forever.

I'm also not a fancy person. I mean... I'm not even sure I know what others consider to be fancy! Ha!
1. "Fancy" cheeses??

(Tues, 8/29) - 3 things you're grateful for that come in pairs (or that you have 2 of)
1. I'm also thankful for New Balance shoes. They are basically the only shoes that come in kids wide half sizes.
2. Socks
3. the Old and New Testament
