Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Smoking breaks when I was in college, it was a fantastic way to meet people & shoot the breeze (not healthy but fun).

Getting a nice deep tan out in the sun all day with friends then showing off my tan in pretty summer clothes at night
(I sometimes wonder if avoiding the sun actually reduced cancer rates? No-one ever gave follow-up reports. Same goes for raising the drinking age I guess, where are the follow up reports on the buzzkills, better have worked.)

Getting all dressed up and dancing all night in clubs until my feet ached with a big room full of strangers drinking Kamakazis and Long Island Iced Teas in high heels was the best. Then the drugs came and ruined fun the nightlife lifestyle, now people can only congregate privately because of violence but it was amazing to have lived it.

I remember we used to put on baby oil to get a better tan while laying on a black trampoline to get the best rays :o

With the boom box 😆
And lemon juice in our hair, for highlights!

Put me on the list for missing the Disney Parks of the late 90s and 2000s, and wishing for paper fast passes.

@Tink-osophy , I still have a flip phone! I do NOT have a cell phone of my own, but work insists I carry one while in the building, so I asked for a flip phone if possible- and it is!

Long ago things (Great thread topic :))

Kmart! I still miss that store so much, Pic N Save too for memories of how much my grandpa loved that store.

Original versions of so many products such as Kraft mac and cheese. "New and improved," does not always mean (to me, anyway) "new and improved," I am old fashioned and tend to prefer original, simpler versions of most things.

Definitely 80's cartoons and some TV Shows such as Smurfs and Family Ties.

Definitely simpler and smaller Disneyland, cheaper, of course, too! Or maybe lol I just miss having the energy and stamina I once did. How blessed, of course, I am to be of the health I am now. No complaints! Only, always, gratitude to God.

Slower pace of life and that more people were in closer touch with each other. To me, especially today, this is more important than ever which is why I often ask each of dear you in this lovely and kind thread to please never wait to tell someone you care for or love that you do! Today! Thank you :)

Getting together with friends to watch movies that were only on once a year

Marathon candy bars

Trivial Pursuit as the hot new board game
It is nice having so many choices of what to watch these days, but there was something more special about it all, when it was more limited and lots of us watched,, and chatted about, the same things at the same time.

I didn't know they were ever called Marathon bars in the States? ...Oh, I've just googled and your Marathon bar was what we call a Curly Wurly! They're still sold here, I haven't had one for years! We used to have Snickers called Marathons!

Long Ago Things:
1. Skating Rinks—such a fun memory of mostly my middle school years spent roller skating on the weekends.
2. Isaly’s—a local restaurant with great ice cream and sandwiches.
3. Home milk delivery—we got ours Tuesday and Friday. Had a box on the porch where it was delivered—always milk, sometimes cottage cheese, sour cream, cream cheese. I think they did ice cream too, but not positive. We had the same milkman my whole childhood—his name was Barney.

Yes, that looks the same!!

And now I'm in trouble, because apparently I can order them through Amazon. :rotfl:

I think I'll wait until we're not having a heat wave, as I'm sure they'd melt on my porch, but I put it on my list so I can order some (and maybe the Wispa that popped up too  ) this fall.

(Tues, 7/4) - Independent Choice - any 4 things you're grateful for
(Okay. I'm answering this as of the day I'm posting, because one is specifically from July 5 and wouldn't have "applied" yet on the day of)
1. On Monday, I got to see the kid I work with one-on-one during our school year Awana program at church. He and his sister missed awards night, and I got to give them their awards.
2. I did the Bikes and Boats event again, and I made it nearly 2 miles on the recumbent trike!
3. Our independence

(Wed, 7/5) - 3 small tools you're grateful for

1. Pens
2. Utensils
3. Glasses cases

(Thurs, 7/6) 3 fads, long-gone products, or "outdated" pass-times you are/were grateful for
1. Magic Middle Cookies (the chocolate chip ones)
2. Pudding Pops
3. Jump roping

Treats

Granny's pound cake....with strawberries.

My chocolate chip cookies

Scotcharoos...special K, peanut butter, corn syrup bars with melted chocolate and butterscotch chips on top. Ironically, I believe the first one I had was from Main Street Bakery as a teen in the late 80s or early 90s
