Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Hobbies I'm grateful for:

reading - most useful hobby I've ever had! Plus, I just enjoy it :)

scrapbooking - really need to get back into this one! I enjoyed it and so love having the albums to look back through, but somehow I fell out of the habit of doing it.

daily puzzles - I play Wordle and Nerdle, and enjoy them both as an intellectual challenge and as a way to connect with people. - I belong to the threads for each of them here, and also often share scores by text with far-away family members.

Today might be a tough one...

"Gratitude Turn-Arounds" - 3 times you were (or could be) grateful when things go wrong or you have to do stuff you'd rather not

ex: when you have to plunge the toilet, and keep telling yourself "I'm grateful to have indoor plumbing. I'm grateful to have indoor plumbing. I'm grateful to have indoor plumbing." :rotfl:

❄️Happy snowy Tuesday morning from the Chicago area❄️

This one is actually not to difficult for me….

As I’m paying medical bills (I’ve had a lot in the last couple years), I say, “Thank you God for medical insurance”

When my sweet Sophie was still alive and I had to pick up dog poop in the backyard I would think - I hate this, but love her.

When horrible cold weather comes or a snow storm and I always always always thank God for blessing us with a warm home and pray for the homeless. I‘ve seen where some of the homeless live in Chicago and I can’t even begin to imagine what they have to endure when it’s 5 degrees outside or ice & snow storms.

When I fixed my fireplace all by myself and I was so grateful one I did it and two it worked and I had heat !!🔥

Always grateful to fix a toilet - always grateful for indoor plumbing !!! Always hate outhouses

Grateful for my washer & Dryer - I can’t stand going to laundry mat - just last week I fixed a dryer issue again all by myself I was so proud of myself and dryer worked !!! Granted it wasn’t major issue but I’m horrible at repairs so I’m very grateful I was successful 🙏🙏

Bonus - grateful I’ve been taught how to do small how things - had to remove carpeting in small area last weekend as a sick cat thought that is the SPOT to do ALL my business (ugh) yeah that smell is never leaving lucky for me it’s in front of basement door - tiny area - but I’m grateful I knew how to do it and I got the job done !! So proud of myself !! My neck was not happy about it as it was a little mad but hey smells gone 👍

I’m grateful for my house for my things for indoor plumbing and heat etc I’ve been without so I know what that is like I don’t take these things for grated I’m very grateful for all of them

1) I hate to vacuum (I'm not sure why, it's not really that hard) so I try to be grateful that I actually own this amazing machine and I'm not hauling the rugs outside and beating them with a stick.

2) when I'm super stressed with too much to do in the house and the cat insists we go out, it always ends up making me feel better and whatever I'm doing easier when I go back to it. So I'm grateful for the "interruption."

3) When I've encountered frustration while shopping and I find a friendly employee who helps, I concentrate on being grateful to that person instead of upset about needing to go find them in the first place.

Turn-arounds

1. That God has never left me and always has let me/helped me turn-around when I've been what was wrong
2. When I was not happy about the $$$ to rewire our entire house. But you see the old cloth wiring and realize your house could have been a tinderbox.
3. When it seems like every time you get ahead, you have to spend it on the rainy day. But you realize after, you HAD IT for the rainy day.

Happy Tuesday :)

When DH’s plant was closed I left very reluctantly my home, my job my family and friends to go to Ohio. We were there for 25 years and I found a job I enjoyed, new friends for life and spiritual experiences I call back on now to help me get through some tough times.

I definitely will agree that things like bad plumbing being fixed puts me in a reflective mood that causes my gratitude to soar.

I have had mobility problems since my 50’s and I have always at least tried to be grateful and thank God that I can get around as I do. A very special experience I can have is riding my adult tricycle around our town. Being able to afford things like that is not something everyone can do. It reminds me to be generous. I have had experiences like someone stopping me so they can tie a shoelace for me that I hadn’t noticed. I use a cane or walker around town, depending on how my balance is that day.

"Gratitude Turn-Arounds" - 3 times you were (or could be) grateful when things go wrong or you have to do stuff you'd rather not

:goodvibes This is an easy one today - who among us doesn’t have enough “first-world problems” that we can purposefully turn around to see the blessings? :worship:

1. Housework. Every minute of the seemingly-relentless drudgery is a chance to be humble and remember how much we love our home and how almost-perfect it is for us. Not to mention being thankful for those loved ones in my home that I’m working to serve in this way.
2. My job. It’s hard and I’d leave it in a hot minute but I’m our main breadwinner, which is also not a circumstance either of us love or ever wanted. But it pays big money and my success there is truly a gift and provision for our needs.
3. Busyness. There are days when the phone rings or texts with an invitation or request to do something for someone and my gut reaction is “please can I just catch a break and disappear off the radar until I feel stronger and more rested?!?”. But then I realize how truly blessed I am to have the physical strength and resources to give and serve, and the precious human connections with people who all would serve me the same way if I asked. Loneliness is truly a tragedy and I have never been, for one minute of my life, without the great blessing of community. :grouphug:

Also shout-out to @slo and her mention of cold weather. Whenever I’m scraping ice off my car or trying to warm my frozen toes, I can’t help but be SO thankful for all my warm, safe places and conveniences. I also pray for those without and try to keep my eyes open for anyone I can assist when the temperatures are extreme. :cold:

3 Gratitude Turn-Arounds
1. Agree with indoor plumbing -- my experiences camping with outhouses and no running water were not that great. 😬

2. Healthcare in this country. Even though there is room for improvement, overall I am so grateful for access to advanced quality care.

3. Travel mishaps. We've missed flights, had long delays, or had red-tide affect our travel, for example. I try to remind myself that although it didn't go according to plan, I'm still traveling and escaping home/work for a bit so that's already a win.

This one isn’t hard for me, either.

1. First thing that came to mind was my work. Every shift on the drive in I pray thanks for what I am still able to do (and ask for protection to help me get through it). I never know what I’m in for when I walk in the door, and sometimes it’s extremely challenging, but I love it, and I always wind up having some good moments among the tough ones and meeting people who enrich my life in one way or another. I consider my work both both a gift and a privilege.

2. Second thing I’m grateful for is my new rescue dog. We chose a dog who was 8 yrs old that “needed a soft place to lay his head” but that dog wound up being much younger than 8, lol. So instead of a couch potato, we have a dog who has a lot of energy to burn. But it gets us out every day on new adventures and I see so many of my previous beloved dogs in him that he brings us joy. It took a long time to find the right dog (years) but some of the things that happened with this one made me realize it was meant to be.

3. Housework. Naturally it can be a chore. But I feel so blessed to have this home we’ve loved for over 30 years and raised our kids in, etc. I‘m happy when it’s looking good.

Good ones!

I haven't thought about it when vacuuming (will now!), but often think the same way with the washing machine and dishwasher.

Pulling weeds can be annoying, but then I remember I have a lovely outside space and things grow in it.

Since this is a travel forum: A while back, I was booked into a new resort in the Caribbean, which they didn't manage to finish in time. They took us to a resort where (for various reasons) I was very uncomfortable. After a chat with the local rep I moved to a beautiful tranquil hotel I loved and when I got home was refunded all accommodation costs.

1. Every time I have to do something with my car-thankful I have a car
2.Housework-I have a roof over my head and a warm place to sleep
3.Going to work-I do not love my job, but it pays well and provides my family with experiences I otherwise would not be able to achieve with a lower paying job(especially with how expensive things are now!)

Turn arounds

1 No matter what, in all and always, God is with and within me. I simply pray that I might in a humble way be saying thank You to Him through my witness in life.

2 I may be homebound right now due to the ongoing pandemic, but what an incredible blessing (truly no words) this time has been to be extra still, deeper in pray/conversation with God, and that He has gifted me also these years closer with my beloved dad, also in health, is something I will forever cherish.

3 I do get cold easily. This old apartment doesn't have safe to use heating. How incredibly blessed, I am to have a warm and safe roof over my head period! I definitely do pray that if it be His will one day dad and I will be able to move but zero complaints only gratitude. I also pray for all to know a safe, warm home, and that they are unconditionally loved as well and that I might be a tiny part of making this a reality.

I should have known it would be easy for this group!

:cheer2: I'm so glad everyone here found the thread, and I absolutely love reading the responses every day!!

I just got this from our local HVAC/Plumbing company - thought I would share
Glad you did! (...and I just noticed your tag. - That's so sweet!!)
