Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Our top loading washing machine...no bells. Whistles. Buttons... numbers...rubber flange to clean... just turn on the dial

OMG YES!!!!!!!

Those modern front loading machines are sooooooooo pretty and I love that you can color coordinate, but they can be so issue prone and the ones we've used when traveling just don't do as good of a job as the old school top loaders.

Edison Light Bulbs - They aren't appropriate in every fixture, but I love that old fashioned vintage look you get with these. Amazing how something as simple as a lightbulb style can change a vibe.

China/Crystal/Silver pieces - While my wedding china and glassware is much newer, I have all kinds of inherited pieces. The pieces are old fashioned yet also timeless.

Carved furniture - I love seeing old fashioned pieces and admiring the craftsmanship that went into carving out some of the intricate designs. Modern methods have made so much of this a lost art.

Old fashioned things . . . I love antiques of all kinds so it will be hard to choose.

Fountain pens. Antique ones are beautiful but I even buy contemporary disposable ones just because I like writing with a fountain pen (and the disposable ones are less likely to leak).

Vinyl records. I listen to digital music as well, but there’s nothing quite like getting out the turntable and some vinyl.

Ceiling fans. Very old technology that works as well today as it did over 100 years ago. A must have for me in Florida!

Yes.. and ditto our dryer. Both are rugged, do an exceptional job, and are at least 25 years old. DH is a master at fixing them, thanks to You Tube!

Knowing cursive, so that I am able to read all those old recipe cards, written in my mom's, grandmother's, and great grandmother's handwriting!

I have my great aunt's stuffing spoon. It's what she used for spooning the stuffing out of the Thanksgiving bird every year. She got it as a wedding present, so it's about 75 years old. She had put it in the Goodwill pile when she was getting ready to go into assisted living, and I asked if I could have it. She was astounded that I'd want "that old spoon" and touched when I explained what it meant to me. Miss you, Petie ❤️ 😢

Today's Topic (Fri, 1/24) - 3 peanut butter things you're grateful for

(If you're allergic, please share the substitute products you're grateful for.)

Happy FRIDAY Friends

Peanut Butter is one of my most absolute favorite food items.

#1 - JIF - My favorite peanut butter.

#2 - My Peanut Butter Balls - I know this will sound very conceited, but I make some dam good peanut butter balls.

#3 - Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches - The most portable easy sandwich in the world to eat when on the go. DD21 ate a zillion of them when she was playing travel softball.

#4 - Bonus - Uncrustables - To the person who thought to make these….Thank You!

Having a child with life threatening allergies to peanuts and tree nuts has forced me to step back from peanut butter. That's not to say that I don't indulge from time to time, but I don't keep it around the way I used to. Mind you, I was never a kid that like PB&J, so that also was part of it.

1. Peanut Butter alternatives - DD16 loves peanut butter. There are safer treats I could have for her around the house, but if she wanted something more traditional, having something like SunButter around was a real help. DD18 would never eat it. She knew it was safe but it was too close to real peanut butter in her eyes that she couldn't bring herself to having more than a taste.

2. Reese's Pieces - I don't like peanut butter cups, but I love some Reese's Pieces. I think it's the crunch factor.

3. You put your chocolate in my peanut butter! - I'm sure many of remember these old Reese's commercials. While I don't like the taste of the cups, the commercials made me realize that I really do like straight up peanut butter and chocolate together. So, I've been known to get a bag of milk chocolate baking chips and a jar of peanut butter...and just dump some of those chips into the peanut butter and eat it with a spoon. This way, it's straight up peanut butter without all of the additives where I can control the chocolate to peanut butter ratio.

Honorable mention - CHUNKY peanut butter. Yes, I am that person that doesn't like creamy. It's fine for baking, sauces or custom ice cream flavors, but I love texture and enjoy having all of the little peanut bits.

Peanut butter on Apple slices while riding Amtrak Coast starlight... I sneak back to the empty car and find a seat...so that my seat mate will not say "LOOK BIG FOOT and take my carefully prepared gourmet slice🍎🍎🍎🍯🍯 as we travel up the Cascades

On celery

Peanut butter tubes while hiking 🥾 🥾 🥾 the PCT... when the instant pudding is all gone...a spoonful of peanut butter 😋 😋 makes blisters less pain

Reese's pieces. I can take or leave the cups, trees, bells, etc., but I do love Reese's pieces. They are usually my "travel treat" candy when we fly!

Peanut butter pie.

Boma's peanut rice. It's awesome, and one of DD's favorite dishes EVER. We went to Boma for her 16th birthday and they made some just for her! Unfortunately, it's off our menu rotation now as SIL and the resident 8 year old both have nut allergies.

Today is...

Since Disney trip planning is what brought this board together, I expect most of us have been to Florida, so...

Today's Topic (Sat, 1/25) - 3 things you're grateful for about Florida.

Well, Disney World, of course! That's so obvious I don't think I should even count it as an answer, so instead I'll say...

World class theme parks. ALL of them, including KSC (we love KSC). I am not a big thrill seeker, so I don't enjoy the roller coasters or things that rely on screens. What I do love is the immersive, all-encompassing, fantasy-like feeling of the theme parks, the "forget it all and enjoy" feeling I get when we are visiting the Orlando area.

Experiencing different flora and fauna. Not sure how else to say it. I love going to the state parks or "into the wild" and seeing different creatures from those we have here in Maine (hello, manatee friends!), different environments, etc. I've never before seen a river so pristine that you can see all the way to the bottom, and see all the fish, turtles, etc. swimming by! Our next trip to FL might be less Disney-focused; I've always wanted to drive all the way out on the keys, to the very end of Route 1. My mom lived on Rt. 1 here in Maine, and I've driven a lot of it on the northern end... maybe it's time to see the termination of the route!

When you go at the right time, the weather can be lovely! It really is a break from winter here in Maine. OK, maybe not so much this year, but you know what I mean!

BEACHES 🏖️🏝️
Disney
Sea - which has BEACHES!!! And cruise ships 🚢
Well not so much this year but the warm weather in the winter 🥶 although I’ve worn my winter coat plenty of times in FL it’s still not as cold as it is where I live
I just like the atmosphere and the coastal feel of FL although Aug is a bit brutal but that’s what air conditioning is for !!!
Very grateful I’ve gotten to go as much as I have !!!
