Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Happy Saturday

#1 - My babies that were both a little over 6lbs

#2 - Our Guinea Pig

#3 - My favorite earrings - Mickey Mouse studs - I wear them in my second hole every day without fail and have since my DH gave them to me over 15 years ago.

"Small" things...

Me! OK, I am not small, but I had bariatric surgery and have managed to keep off 120 pounds. I am smaller, my clothes are smaller, I can use the airplane seatbelt, I can reach the little lever on the floor of my car that opens the hatch on the gas tank... the list goes on! This was a super hard way to lose weight and was my last resort, and it will change my relationship with food for the rest of my life, but I am SO thankful I chose the surgery and have changed my health and my views on life.

My mini-Christmas tree. It's about 2 feet tall, and is white with fiber optics so it changes color. I have been laid up the past two Christmases (one with covid and one with a terrible knee injury) so spend a LOT of Christmas week confined to my room or upstairs (where both bathrooms are located). DH ordered this tree for me so I could somewhat enjoy the season- and I do love the tree.

My Nook. It's smaller than a paperback, so small by book standards, and I can read wherever I go, and I never run out of books!

Three small thing:

1. Small towns- I'm very grateful for the small town I live in. My two oldest have moved to the city and I think about possibly moving there when we retire (especially if our third moves there), but I would miss my small town and the fun it brings!

2. My small purse - I have a small crossbody that I carry when we go on vacations and I'm starting to carry it more often just on a daily basis because it's so much easier to carry!

3. DH's truck - he just switched from a Ford F150 crew cab, etc to a Ford Maverick. It is so much easier to park and maneuver than his other truck! I love it!

I'm grateful to have grown-up in one as well! I live someplace slightly larger now, but still carry that small-town vibe with me.

Also seconding pets (which I think a couple of people mentioned above) - small packages of immense love! 💗

And for my third - holiday lights! The bulbs may be tiny, but they hold a lot of joy!

Small Things

Small gestures of kindness, affection, support... You know, the little everyday things that are so easy to take for granted and, even, forget to offer, because they're small. Except, their impact is not small.

Small details. Walt was always very good at paying attention to the small details, as well as the bigger ones, wasn't he?!

Drops of water; grains of sand; flower petals; snowflakes; leaves...

And small, cosy corners for snuggling down.

I third small towns. Mind you, I suppose it's relative! About 10,000 population, where I grew up, but, for various reasons, a strong community feel.

Also, yes to earrings! And I agree about each small Christmas light bulb brightening our lives! Nice one, @PollyannaMom.

Happy Sunday

#1 - I’m very grateful for Cardinals - many people believe seeing a cardinal is a “sign” that those who have passed are with us in spirit and are “messengers” from departed loved ones. We have them by our house and every time I see one on the back porch I think of my Grandma and that she’s keeping an eye on me. This Spring I was going through an upsetting time, and I was walking through a local life size walk of the Stations of the Cross (this is over a mile long). As I was walking from station to station, praying & emotional about the situation, I heard a very loud relentless chirping. I finally looked up and it was a Cardinal. I couldn’t believe my eyes - I swear it was my grandma telling me to stand up straight, stay strong and to not allow anyone to make you crumble. She was the strongest woman Ive ever known and she helped raise me with a firm hand and no whining was ever allowed. I loved her more than words can ever say and even after 18 years, I still miss her terribly. I often think back on the day at The Shrine and how I truly felt that my grandma was with me at that moment - it was an incredibly powerful moment. Thanks be to God for sending that cardinal at that exact moment - incredible ❤️

#2 - I’m grateful for our resident deer - DD20 and my DH just threw all our pumpkins into the forest so we’ll be seeing them soon to eat it - they love pumpkin. We can watch them from our living room window.

#3 - I’m grateful for snow on a weekend day when I’m home, like today - I do love watching it fall and cover everything, but once I have to go out in it, I want it to disappear like it never happened - LOL!

3 things in nature...

1. Changing seasons. As much as I HATE snow and cold, I love living where there are four distinct seasons.

2. The critters that live in our back woods that come to visit. Sometimes they are fun- like the roly-poly groundhog, and sometimes a little scary, like bears and foxes, but I love watching them all!

3. Thunderstorms. Talk about physics on display!

Beaches - warm sunny days playing in the sand looking for seashells the very tiny ones
My pesky deer 🦌 - 3 visited last night and refused to leave my yard so I could potty my dog they are under the impression it’s their yard - the head mommy deer was not happy with me and let me know it !! Needless to say my dog wants to play with them 🤣🤣
Lush green grass - love a nice thick lawn which I don’t have because I have a dog 🤣🤣

1. I'm grateful for beaches - so calming and relaxing!

2. I'm grateful for dogwood trees - one of my favorite types of trees! I know they are not hardy trees, but they are so beautiful!

3. I'm grateful for our local Great River Road - it's a drive between the river and the bluffs and it is so beautiful. I'm lucky that I drive a portion of it at least once a week!
