Three Things...Gratitude Thread

If y'all wanna come to my house for lobster, it's $9.99 a pound this week! We can get them steamed at the store to eat as-is, or I'll pick 'em and make lobster rolls. I guess another option would be to split them and make baked stuffed lobster 🦞🦞🦞

Food/cooking related...
I love that DD lives here and we meal plan together. On Saturday mornings we grab coffee and the grocery sale ads and plan the week's meals, and then on Sunday we go grocery shopping together.

Cheese... anything with cheese, especially if it's hot, gooey, and melting! Cheese quesedillas, pizza, calzones, etc. Guess I could put lobster mac&cheese in here, too!

Seafood all the way, baby!

Soft things...
Snowflake rolls and Boston creme pie donuts.
My Vera Bradley blanket. I love to cuddle up in it, it's so soft and snuggly!
Beach sand! I guess if everyone's coming up for lobster, we could go to the beach, too, and kill two birds with one stone- although it's gonna be a tad chilly in Maine on the beach in almost-October!

I make the bed, or my husband makes the bed, every day - whoever gets up last. Growing up and until I got married, I never made the bed, but my husband did. Now, I can’t stand an unmade bed.

Which beach are we going to? I was already planning a brief walk at Huntington Beach, CA, in January.
Works for me

LOBSTER ROLLS & Boston Cream pie and a Beach - I’m moving in for the Summer cause I know how y’all winters are - they start in October last until May 🤣🤣🤣 but I’ll bunk up for the Summer and help make lobster rolls & Key Lime Pie!!! Then we can go to the beach !

Travel - my favorite ❤️
I’m not sure how to word this but I’m grateful I found cruise lines I should say Disney cruise lines - I was thought I would never like it and then I took one - omg love it ! I can almost live on a ship - the longer the cruise the better ! It’s just so relaxing and so nice seven days to me it’s just too short it’s fun to get to go and see little places and I want to go back and explore in depth later I’m very grateful for it I enjoy it very much I find the people on the Disney Cruiseline cruises for the most part extremely friendly and I’ve had some really good times and made some really good friends very grateful that I took that plunge outside my comfort zone and found something that I really do enjoy

Magnets / Fish extenders / Recipe exchange / candy exchange etc - not tips but fun things to do that I normally would not do that I do when I’m on a cruise it’s a great way to meet people and they’re fun maybe not your idea of fun which is cool you don’t have to do it but I love doing it I love coming back to my room and finding gifts I love giving gifts of running around the ship look at everybody’s magnets on their doors looking at their fish extenders seeing their decorations I considered a fun part of my cruise

Skycaps / Bell Services - since I have an injury and I’m not supposed to lift anything over 10 pounds I really appreciate being able to have services available to me or someone to help me with my bags you be surprised how heavy 10 pounds is and how quickly you can get a small bag to be more than 10 pounds I can’t do carry-on because I just can’t lift it even dragging a bag on wheels behind me will tear me up and put me in pain for days so I really appreciate the services
Tiny backpacks- See above - so for the last 40 years I’ve had roughly 2 tiny backpacks and they’ve both been awesome full-size backpack not usually for me I have one that I can use as long as I don’t put A lot in it and that’s the one I received from Disney Cruiseline years ago when they used to give out really nice backpacks I wish they would go back to those

Luggage - don’t skimp get yourself a nice bag and pray the airlines don’t break it
A good bag is worth it’s weight in gold if you travel a lot

And I just like having my travel blanket and all my little stuff a little travel bags my travel notebooks just the things I’ve gathered through the years and take with me every time I go on a trip my travel wallet my little tiny 🎒 my deck of cards

I’m grateful for all the trips I’ve taken and all the memories I’ve made it’s something I didn’t get to do as a kid because we never took a vacation so I am very grateful it’s some thing I did a lot with my kids and saw my dad without my kids but I enjoy traveling and visiting different places and seeing new things but I especially enjoy going to the beach and seeing palm trees I’m very grateful I get to do it

Happy HUMP Day

#1 - I’m extremely grateful for the new carry-on suitcases my DH bought DD20 and I for our WDW trip - the wheels rolled so smooth and we easily fit everything we needed in them.

#2 - I’m grateful for The Southwest app - it’s so nice having all your flight information at your fingertips.

#3 - I’m grateful for my large Vera Bradley duffle bag (I’m hoping I get the new Disney one for my birthday. The one I’m using now is DD’s old one. It’s a Purdue one and she does not go to Purdue. She thought she wanted to go there at one time and then she fell in love with the college she’s at now. I have a friend who’s son goes to Purdue that I can give this bag too if I get the Disney one) - this bag is perfect for our overnight stays when we go visit DD20 at college.

Travel

I am most grateful that we did get to Normandy D Day Beaches in 2019 and that I could walk well enough to visit certain areas.

Our DVC points have allowed us to host our family and friends many times!

I am grateful that in 2009 we were on a cruise and we stopped at Gdańsk Poland. Poland is the country of both my and DH’s ancestry. Of particular interest to me was the area that Hitler first invaded on September 1, 1939 that began WWII. Then also was our visit to Lech Walesa’s Solidarity office which eventually caused the Iron Curtain to fall!

Happy Wednesday friends! Since I am out here, LA based :beach:works best for me especially as a homebody. Leebee:grouphug:thank you for the kind invite. I don't eat lobster but can bring 🥞or something else for all to enjoy as an extra choice :)

Travel memories when I did enjoy doing so and was much more easily able to. Dad and I truly enjoyed our WA trip in 2007 or 2008.

God willing, local travel to come is fun to think about such as to ::MickeyMo(45 minutes or so away from me) Much closer and more importantly to me, to travel to check out other churches along with give the one I was so a active in pre pandemic another try.

Dad, when we watch The Price is Right or House Hunters, enjoys sharing about places he has visited. Grateful, of course, he got to do that!

Traveling for me=VERY local as in within my neighborhood. I do enjoy traveling further through all of your kind shares and those of other friends and family. Books, TV, and movies are fantastic traveling ways too. Know what also makes for fun and safe from home travel? 🐎💌The Pony Express! I will be starting a group PM thread about a postcard surprise I would appreciate each of your help with. Thank you :)

Safe and happy travels to all with love! For me, I pray to remember that to me, Traveling with God through every day is beyond a privilege for which I give Him thanks. That I get to do so with dad as well is added joy. Grateful to be able to walk through life with each of kind you, too. Thank you, friends:grouphug:

(Wed, 9/27) - 3 travel-related things you're grateful for ❤️

One of my favorite topics!

1. Similar to others - I've very grateful for cruises! They are our favorite type of vacation at the moment. DH and I can rarely take off more than a week and they just fit so nicely in our available timeframe. We love unpacking once and getting to see a new place everyday!

2. I'm grateful for trips we've been able to take through our work. DH is eligible for a sales trip each year and he's earned 15 of them over the years. They are 4 nights/5 days and when the kids were young, they were our trip we'd treat ourselves to with just us. The kids always considered it a vacation as well, because they were completely spoiled staying with Grandma!

3. I'm grateful for credit card points which makes our travel more plentiful and easier! It's basically a hobby of mine at this point and really helps to pay for a lot of the travel that we take!

My neighbors next-door growing up as a kid this lady was like my mom yes I spent more time with her than my mom long story not getting into it but this woman was quiet and very nice she’s from the south and she taught me a lot of southern recipes which I find so hilarious since I was born on the East Coast my parents are from the East Coast I live in the Midwest and then my upbringing was influenced heavily by a couple from the south so I have a lot of east coast in southern and me and I have a tendency to lean southern so I do more southern cooking than I do East Coast and I know it strikes me as so funny also strikes me it’s funny that every day my gratitude is always about food 🤣🤣🤣

There was a lady she was very elderly that used to sit outside all the time by herself in it look like she live with her son or daughter which is another elderly couple and I was thought she looks so lonely I was a preteen and I thought one day I’m gonna go talk to her so I started going next-door and chatting with this lady and we became fast friends so I go down almost every night and just sit with her for me chat chat and chat and it was so interesting hearing all the stories from when she was a kid I enjoyed spending time Talking with her and getting to know her and in doing so I also got to know her son and daughter
My current neighbors are a blessing from God I couldn’t ask for better neighbors without me even asking my neighbor has done so many things for me just because and when I try to thank thiis retired elderly gentleman for his endeavors he has scolded me and told me he’s just being neighborly one of his endeavors was to shovel my driveway it’s three cars he has no business doing it I have no business doing it either with my injury and I was just blown away but he did it so I had gotten him some gift cards so him and his wife to go to lunch as a thank you and he’s like don’t you do that again I’m just being neighborly so I told him I’m just being neighborly go eat lunch enjoy yourself !
They’re very sweet couple
My other neighbors on the other side of me are from India they are very nice couple close to my age and you know they keep to themselves and their very friendly and nice reach out upon occasion so I ran into the wife one night and she told me her husband told her that they must look out for me That they must take care of me now that I’m living by myself that it’s their job and I was just blown away I thought how sweet and touching and she was explaining how they have their cameras pointed at my yard to watch to make sure I’m OK when i potty my dog at night because it’s usually really late like midnight or later so that nothing happens to me and if something does they know about it immediately so they’ve been secretly watching over me I was really touched because I was thought one of these critters is going to get me one of these nights and no one‘s gonna know how wrong I was!
You see God is out there working! So I’m very blessed beyond thankful for my two immediate neighbors🙏❤️ It’s like winning the lottery they have such nice people living by me! Truly blessed grateful every day!

Good Morning!

This is an easy one for me….

#1 - I’m grateful for my childhood neighbor - the parents were like second parents to me and the girl was and still is my best girlfriend - we’ve been friends for 50 years.

#2 - I’m grateful for my next door neighbor - we’ve been neighbors for 19 years and I trust them with our house, with my kids (when they were little) and etc. They are good people.

#3 - I’m grateful for my neighbor 2 doors down (the next door neighbor of above) - we’ve been neighbors for 18 years and I feel the same way about them as I do in #2.

#4 - Bonus - I’m sometimes grateful for my other next door neighbor - they can sometimes be fun to watch, but they also can sometimes be a nuisance. Sometimes they trespass regardless what we do to keep them out. Every day is a different day when your neighbor is wildlife and their home is a forest.

Travel Things:

1. DVC—grateful that we had it while my kids were little so that we made time for trips.
2. Rolling luggage—great invention
3. GPS—no more sticky notes on the steering wheel.

Neighbors:
1. My neighbor across the street—she is my “village”. They also have 3 girls and both of our oldest 2 were close growing up so we were always talking and helping each other out. Truly one of the best people I know.
2. All of the neighborhood kids who have taken care of my dog/plants/packages when I’ve been away. Peace of mind for me and some extra money for them and a reference for that first teenage job.
3. My block party helpers. I have usually been in charge of the block party, but others have helped—one woman takes care of kid activities, another one handles the cornhole tournament for adults—lots of fun.

Love all the neighbor stories! :grouphug:Thank you all for being caring neighbors!

Grandma lived around the corner from me for a couple of years long ago in a small town in Northern, CA.

Dad and I years ago had a yard sale with helpful upstairs neighbors.

I enjoy reading about close neighbors and communities in books and of course seeing them portrayed in Hallmark movies. Even better always, hearing about them in real life :)

(Thurs, 9/28) - 3 neighbors you are (or have been) grateful for

1. In our old neighborhood that we lived in for 25 years, we had great neighbors - lots of families with kids so our kids always had someone to play with - it was a great neighborhood to raise a family!

2. Our next door neighbor from that neighborhood was so sweet. She was an elderly lady and she loved our kids and they loved her. It all started with them taking some cookies over to her shortly after she moved in. She loved that and loved talking to them!

3. Our neighbors across the street where we live now - they moved here from out of the area and we've started doing things with them. They are about our age and both work from home, so I think they like getting out in the evenings a bit more than we do lol, but we always have a good time hanging out with them!

Our neighbor Angela at our old apartment...she was so warm and welcoming right at the start and just a sweet person(her whole family is awesome)-we still keep in touch and she's exactly the same even years later

When I was younger, our neighbors had this chubby golden retriever named Sheena...her and I hung out all the time(it was the 80's and she would just come into our yard and hang out with me) I loved her sweet personality

Our current neighbors are our landlords and I just enjoy them as humans...they are just very "real" people...laid back and mellow like we are so it's a good situation...my husband actually grew up with the husband years ago so it was an easy move/transition for all of us

Do you remember when we were kids at Halloween how the neighbors would make popcorn balls and fudge and you’d be trick-or-treating and you’d get homemade popcorn balls and you would get fudge all of it homemade? Anybody have memories of this? Try to do that these days it would be very limited and you’d have to really know your neighbors it’s so sad that that has had to go by the wayside you can’t even send homemade treats to school anymore it’s really sad but I have fond memories of going to my neighbors and getting those homemade popcorn balls they were so delicious and my one neighbor making fudge All for Halloween 🎃👻💀
