Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Handwritten things...
I have an envelope where I keep the bills to be paid. It's pretty old; the address is our home in PA, and we left there in 2001. The address on the envelope is to me, and it's written in my mother's handwriting.

I have the love letter my father wrote to my mother on the day I was born. I also have letters he wrote to his mother and sisters when he was stationed in Germany and France during WWII.

Postcards and cards from @flyingdumbo127. Mona's been sending me little suprise "cheer me up" cards over the summer as I have been recuperating from my knee replacement surgery. THanks!! They always put a smile on my face!

OK, I'm gonna try to catch up here. I have been on the road for a few days and fell behind:
Round things...
>My "wedding" ring, which is a replacement. I have lost 3 engagement/wedding rings for a variety of reasons. I am glad DH still has faith and confidence in me, and wants me to have a ring as a token of our commitment, even if I am not very good at holding on to them.
>Donuts, cookies, pies, cakes. I'm not a big sweets eater, but I like a few bites of something for dessert on occasion.
>I have two Millefiori glass paperweights, left to me by a dear aunt upon her passing.

September things...
>DD's birthday. She will be 30 on September 23. She is my only child and I love her dearly. She is my sunshine, and also my best friend.
>Being back to a set schedule. I love the long lazy summer that comes with working in academia, but it is nice once the fall semester starts and we are back on a "regular" schedule.
>Fall leaves. We are already starting to see fire orange and bright yellow on the uppermost branches of our maple trees.

Long weekends...
>An extra day to get everything done, so the weekend and its associated chores (laundry, meal planning, grocery shopping, etc) aren't as stressful.
>The chance to sometimes get away. This weekend, DD and I stayed in southern Maine on Friday night so we could make it to her hair appointment in Mass by 10am on Saturday. It took 6 hours to get her hair ballyaged, trimmed, and styled, but she looks fantastic! We went out to dinner, stayed at the Hilton-Boston/Woburn, and had a lovely time having late night cocktails and snacks in their bar. On Sunday we drove the long way home, so I could show her some of the places in Mass where I grew up, had lunch in Salem, etc. It is always harder to sneak in a weekend trip without that extra day that a long weekend gives us.
>The opportunity to be lazy and not feel guilty; after all, it's a holiday, right?

Long Weekends:

1. I'm grateful for sometimes being able to take a quick getaway - this past weekend, DH and I went on a 3 day cruise. We've never done a short one, but it was super fun!

2. I'm grateful for the relaxed feel of a 3 day weekend. That extra day makes a big difference in being able to really relax.

3. I'm grateful for my niece's birthday. She was born on Labor Day weekend back in 2004, so she's my Labor Day Sweetheart!

Good Morning

#1 - I’m grateful for my kitchen - I always more grateful for it after returning from a vacation.

#2 - I’m grateful for my ceramic knives - they are so sharp and I love using them.

#3 - I’m grateful for my knees - even though they hurt and need to both be replaced, I’m still grateful for them.

:grouphug:Leebee and Happy upcoming birthday to your DD! You are a special lady! It's a blessing to me to I pray be able to send you some extra cheer throigh the mail. Remember everyone, PM me if you would also enjoy some happy mail.

Kindness! I pray to go through life in kind witness and joy for my Savior Jesus, Who is to me, the King of Kings.

Kiddos are a sincere blessing from God! Being so Graced to have gotten to grow in faith and go through life in different ways as a teacher/friend/camp counselor, etc. to different kids has been a privilege. It always fills my heart with extra thanksgiving to hear kids' voices lifted in songs of praise at church.

Kanga as in Kanga and Roo! :)

Knees for sure are such a blessing as are having keys to both an apartment and car, mailbox, too! Great answers everyone.

As a P.S. Dad and I sure miss K-Mart!

Daisy Duck, sorry you also miss Kmart. Glad another person understands! They really were such a great place. Dad and I would always get Surprise Points each week which were such a blessing to be able to use for us and more so to serve! I would get $5 off $5 for example in toys and be able to use that for something for my church's toy drive. Tried to do likewise with other items when I could, lot of fun and meant a lot too. Kmart also was a great place, which we were talking about last night, for inexpensive seasonal vinyl tablecloths! Definitely miss that place.

A couple other K's I thought of to add:

Blessing each day of being able to have a meal and share an extra time of Communion with Jesus as dad and I sit at our kitchen table.

I did like the character of Kristy in the Baby-sitters Club children's Books. I believe at heart she most cared for all the kids the club took care of.

When I was younger and able to eat it, I really did enjoy freshly made kettle corn! So good when it was truly warm and fresh.
