Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Mornings - truly I'm not a morning person, but I'll give this a whirl lol!

1. Morning showers - they help wake me up!
2. My drive into work - I have a pretty drive into work and I seem to see something new each day
3. Starting work at 7 - I don't love that, but I do love getting off at 4, so for that reason I'm grateful that I start at 7!

Morning--I am a morning person who feels best early in the day.

Start of a new day and first opportunity in wakefulness to thank my Savior Jesus for bringing me into a new day of life and that He, of course, is with me always and throughout it. Thanking Him as I hear my dad rise in the next room for His added blessing to me of another day of health with dad also in health and that we might continue to go through life together. I always pray to be of humble witness in some kind way.

Daily Devotion and Scripture.

Coming on here to check our kind thread and the kindness thread as well always brings me a smile and thanks extra to God.

Mornings...

I am usually the first one awake, around 5:45. I like lying in bed and listening to the total silence in my house, broken only by the sound of the birds waking up.

Coffee... more specifically, I love that we have a pre-set option on our coffeemaker. DH sets up the coffee each evening so that it is finished brewing at 6am. BONUS is that he goes downstairs, gets the coffee, and brings me my first cup while I'm checking my email!

I enjoy making breakfast for the resident 7 year old. He might be a little off the wall until his ADHD meds kick in, but he's snuggly and wiggly and funny. He sits at the peninsula while I make his breakfast. The other 3 adults in the family are either off to work already or upstairs getting ready for work, so this gives us some uninterrupted time together, to catch up from yesterday and talk about today... and other stuff.

Today's Topic - 3 things you're grateful for about mornings

I’m first one up and I’m especially happy when Gus come into my reading room when I’m enjoying morning coffee.

I go outside to feed birds, and say prayers.

I do the puzzles, Nerdle, Wordle, Quordle, and Octordle in the various forms, and eventually post them on Games and Community Boards here.

Today's Topic - 3 things you're grateful for about mornings
  • My Gratitude Journal - It helps me start the day grounded and on a good note
  • Technology, specifically my smartwatch - I'm an early riser so it vibrates my wrist to wake me so DH can stay asleep. I guess not everyone likes a 6am wakeup call. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • My cats - They get wet food in the morning and are very vocal and loving because they know I'm the lady that serves breakfast, haha

At 5 AM this morning, one of my cats (my bad tom cat) jumped on the wall and knocked off a huge decorative clock off of it. Talk about a wake up call!!! :D

Oh, look. It’s Miss Catches Up 5 to 7 Days at a Time, back at it.

(Sat 7/15) - 3 Things You're Grateful For That Someone Gave You, or That You Had Fun Giving Away
(I'm going a bit... unconventional on this one. Hope these count!)
1. Life? Does that count?
2. I honestly believe my mom "gave" me the ability to naturally harmonize because she played piano for the church when she was pregnant with me, so I heard songs in 4-part harmony from the time I was in the womb, literally.
3. The ability to read without ever remembering learning how to read. My mom read to all of us (my two brothers and I) from the time we were born. By the time I came along, both of my brothers were reading too, so I was just... constantly read to. My brothers and I all knew how to read by the time we were 4. And I never thought of it as having to "learn" to read, because, like the music one I mentioned above, it just came so naturally.

(Sun, 7/16) - 3 cold things you're grateful for
1. Ice/ice water
2. Ice cream
3. Frozen Thin Mint girl scout cookies

(Mon, 7/17) - any 3 things you're grateful for
(Reflective of the time I'm posting this, not the day the prompt was posted)
1. You remember a couple of months ago, when I mentioned getting involved with "Bikes and Boats" through a local adaptive sports organization? Well, on Wednesday, I made my goal of completing the short loop around the lake and made it 3.74 miles!
2. My Rubik's cube. I've mentioned this before, and it may sound odd, but I got it for Christmas, honestly never expecting to be "successful" at it and while I'll never been an official "speed cuber," I can solve it in under 3 minutes, and it's still so enjoyable and satisfying when I do.
3. That, generally speaking, I'm pretty content with life in general.

(Tue, 7/18) - 3 Sounds You're Grateful For
1. Music (was there ANY doubt in any of your minds that I would mention this first?)
2. Baby/kid laughter
3. The sounds of a summer night... frogs, crickets, etc.

(Wed, 7/19) - 3 drinks you're grateful for
1. Ice water
2. Water with ice
3. Ice cold water
Yep. I'm boring on this one.

(Thurs, 7/20) - 3 nighttime things you're grateful for
Love the inspiration for this one. Apollo 13 is my favorite movie. I listen to the soundtrack as my "end of the day" music multiple times a week. It includes some of Walter Cronkite's commentary, so I will never forget the date of the moon landing... "...on this July 20th, nineteen hundred sixty-nine."
1. The moon (I can't not mention that after my comment above, right?)
2. My bedtime routine of snack, Bible reading, and book/novel reading
3. My bed

3 things you're grateful for about mornings
1. My morning shower... I'm not a coffee drinker (as evident by my "three drinks responses above...) so a shower is generally what wakes me up and makes me feel human.
2. Putting on my glasses (the other part that makes me feel human again)
3. Breakfast! I make myself a cheese omelet almost every morning for breakfast.

Relaxation-

1. Disney - we have been so many times, we spend a lot of time lounging and doing nothing. We just booked for next week unexpectedly and plan on enjoying the resort mostly with just a couple of park visits. Our last trip for awhile since I go back to work soon!

2. My comfy chair and coffee

3. PTO in general. We are blessed with time off in DHs job plus I get a ton in my new one.

Relaxation...
>Disney. It seems crazy to say about a Disney trip, but I agree with @eksmama01. Gone are the days when we were park commandos (almost... rope drop will never be my "thing"). Our last few trips to WDW have been less about the parks and more about the resorts and relaxation. With the current pricing and our new outlook, we have been getting 2 day park hoppers for our 5-6 day vacations, which gives us split park days; sometimes we ignore DHS and do either AK or MK for the daytime, hopping over to Ep for supper and evenings. THis also gives us plenty of time to resort-hop to check out different places, bars, and restaurants, as well as time to enjoy meals and such at Disney Springs. We almost always have a vehicle, so we have also ventured out into the area in general, to check out wineries, breweries, and non-Disney "stuff." Much more relaxed and less schedule-focused than our first 25 visits to The World. Having said that... there is a new little guy in our family who will be making his first Disney trip in January 2024 so I'm sure things will go back to being stressful and chaotic- but TONS of FUN!

> The cottage. For the past 4 summers we have been renting a cottage for 2 weeks in York Beach, ME. THis is the town where I spent every summer of my life until I graduated from high school, and where my mom and sibs moved to in 1980. This cottage is a 5 minute walk to the beach, and although we aren't beach-goers, we love walking along the ocean in the mornings (with coffee) and evenings (with another "beverage" in our coffee mugs!). Two of my siblings and their adult kids live in town, and my cousins are all in the Boston area, so it's two weeks of visiting, catching up, laughter and meals, peace and serenity. This summer will be different as we are only there for one week and I am rehabbing from knee replacement but I am still looking forward to early mornings on the porch, listening to the waves and smelling the salt and ocean air, and evenings around the fire pit with my sister and nieces. It won't be the same, but I am sure it'll be restorative and relaxing!

> Reading on my back deck. It's been pretty hot for doing this lately, but DH has managed to set up an extension cord so I can take the fan outside. As long as I have a breeze blowing on me, I can manage the heat, although I sit in the shade. It's just nice to be outside, watching the animals in the yard (pretty quiet here, so I sometimes see deer, fox, etc... no sign of this summer's bear yet), listening to the birds and the wind through the trees.

Happy Saturday DIS Friends

Some quickie answers today - I gotta get to the gym and then we’re going to downtown Chicago today for a little shopping and pizza.

#1 - My pool - I will be floating in it tomorrow

#2 - My puzzle time - starting a new one when DD19 returns to school next month

#3 - New Year’s Day - my day off from life - I do nothing all day - the most energy I exert is to wake up, walk to the TV, use the remote, use the washroom and get some food. This is my most favorite day of the year.

Relaxation:

Day by day in quiet moments especially at bedtime and when I first wake up with Jesus. Relaxing in the evenings with my dad is very special to me, too.

Pre pandemic, the small Chapel at church was a space often of great peace to me.
🧩for sure are such fun. We do only have 100 piece patience! :)
📚of course always.
:dogdance:can be a loving a reminder to slow down and just cuddle up and rest, too!
