Three Things...Gratitude Thread

:wave:Happy July with a :grouphug:to all and long with my thanks for kindly continuing our wonderful thread.

July

Christmas in July! Pre pandemic when I attended church in person, it was very meaningful to attend our an annual Christmas in July worship service. Traditional Christmas music is my very favorite, thinking of O Holy Night always fills me with sheer awe, joy, and thanksgiving anew. Reminder to me that because of Jesus, my Savior and Light, Christmas is every day and what a blessed gift of trust I have to be trusted by Him to, "Go Tell it on the Mountain." Hallmark movies, some of course, are better than others are such fin to watch.

Our close cousins Anniversary is on the 4th. Dad and I are so blessed to have them in our lives. Of course, on the 4th, Idependence Day and my extra gratitude to all who have served and their families and likewise to those currently enlisted.

:sunny:weather and longer, brighter days!

::MickeyMoAnniversary on July 17, 1955 out here at DL.

Birthdays of friends, including, of course you dear Leebee!

Happy and healthy, faithful extra bright prayers to all!

Old Music - I love Swing & Big Band

Old TV shows & movies - I Love Lucy & old movies from the 30 - Casablanca / the Thin Man series - Abbott and Costello / the Road movies with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby / the Three Stooges - used to watch them every morning before school

Cooking- making old family recipes the tradition of having the same foods for every holiday and just all the craziness because there’s always a disaster around a holiday meal and it’s just the camaraderie in the memories that go with it - like the time my oven caught on fire at two in the morning on Christmas Eve while we were wrapping gifts- memories

Happy Sunday Everyone!

#1 - I’m grateful for my Mom’s original Monopoly game - all the pieces are made of wood - it’s very nostalgic. We don’t always use it, because I have a few themed Monopoly games we play with, but the old game is fun to use sometimes.

#2 - I’m grateful for my nostalgic Christmas decorations that were my Grandparents (RIP) and from some antique shops - I’m a real sucker for these type of Christmas decorations - I love them!

#3 - I’m grateful for my DH’s Great Grandma’s very nostalgic china - it’s BEAUTIFUL and I don’t dare ever use - I’m to scared something will break. So it just displayed very nicely in our china cabinet in the dining room.

#4 (bonus) - I’m grateful for The Frank Sinatra channel on Sirius XM - very nostalgic music - I listen to it all the time and my family always teases me for it - LOL!

Nostalgic

1. Boxes of old family photos
2. Bin of EK's baby items
3. Anything late 70s and 80s related - games, cars, TV shows, clothes, tge way we lived. I'd do anything to be back for one day to play outside all day with my friends. Funny, I don't remember ever complaining about the heat!

That game is mint ! During World War II, they made the pieces out of wood because they did the metal for the war. I just wrote a book about this that they were inserting Mabs and different things to help the prisoners of war escape into monopoly games and they actually put real money in them to help the prisoners escape - MI9 in great Britain was running. This is really interesting this book I read about it and it’s actually part of all the history of things that they did - Winston Churchill did during World War II to help a prison all across Europe escape that they put these things in the boards, and in the games - they put maps specific to whatever country the prisoners were, and they put money again specific to whatever country the prisoners were and that they would need and they made them like compasses made to pieces somewhere like compasses and things just different things if they snuck into the monopoly games is very interesting
But back home, the pieces were made out of wood because they needed the metal for the war effort
It’s really cool that you have that game. What a wonderful memory.

Nostalgic to me, I rediscovered a few things on our last trip to empty the house, sooooo close to being done, it the workers would only show up. Oh well, God has His plans and I have mine.

I found each of my kids first haircut Mickey Ears from the Harmony Barbershop on Main Street where they kindly blew bubbles to distract from the event so we got good pictures. I LOVE that I have the ears and that both my kisd had their first haircuts there.

I found my wedding dress that was preserved and think I'll make a pretty bedspread with it.

I found the chandelier my grandma painstakingly put together before she died, I need to have it rewired to be safe since I suspect it is almost a hundred now. I hope to do this soon.

Today's Topic (Sat, 7/2) - 3 nostalgic things you're grateful for
You're messing me up here... it's SUNDAY! I've been out of action since surgery on 6/21 and seeing "Sat, 7/2" threw me for a minute!

We have an old-fashioned soda fountain in the town where my family lives. I love to sit at the counter, order an ice cream soda or sundae, and watch them make the treat. Sodas come in tall glasses, frappes served in tall glasses with the rest of it in the metal mixer-cup, sundaes in metal tulip bowls. Reminds me of going to this shop with my grandfather when I was a kid.

Every time I see an original VW bug or bus, it reminds me of being a kid. We were great friends with a neighbor who had a Bug, and we'd put 6 of us in it; 2 adults in front, 3 kids in back, and the littlest kid on the shelf under the rear window! I have a bus during high school... lotsa memories there!

Old family photos, not just for the people but for the surroundings... old cars, wall paper, china sets, things captured in the background that remind me of my childhood.

Years ago a bug lost control and flipped over onto the side of the road. We stopped to help. We flipped it back over - it had NO dent or anything and they drove away unscathed. It still makes me laugh.
