Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Skills/personality aspects:
As I've gotten older, I've learned patience, and to bend like the willow. Small things don't get to me as much as they used to. I've been accused of being less passionate about things, but I think I've learned to accept things more easily. It certainly makes my life more peaceful.

My superpower is scheduling. Comes in really, really handy at home, at work, and then there's vacation planning! Seriously, though; right now we are a family of 4 working adults, an almost-7-year-old (6 and 11/12ths, he likes to remind us), and 3 cars. It's a juggling act but I'm good at it, everyone gets to where they need to be on time, and nobody's been stranded so far!

I strive to be fair. I try to keep an open mind, keep personal opinions out of things, at least until I have a chance to really consider both (or all) sides of an issue. It's hard sometimes, and means I have to accept that I might not always be right (which was really hard to do), but I really try. I think a lot of the turmoil in this country is because people don't stop to consider things from others' points of view, they just "knee-jerk" react to things that don't agree with their opinions.

I pray to be of kind witness in all ways above all else. That how I live might reflect my faith.

In addition to my faith, honesty and kindness have always been traits I have tried to exhibit in all ways.

As I have gotten, older, I agree with you Leebee, about accepting things more easily and for me also giving God thanks in all.

I do enjoy and can be good at, too, with organization and encouraging friends, especially elderly to pare down on "stuff."

I also enjoy writing and though I am not naturally talented, I don't even read music, making a joyful noise unto my Lord through singing especially in church and choir.

Skills/personality

1. Doing well on tests/in school without trying too hard. My grandmother used to tell my very intelligent and accomplished sister that she (sis) had to work for everything she got, but it just came easy for me. My grandmother would be 103 now, but we still joke about it.

2. Try to be kind and accepting of people regardless of whether I agree/disagree with their choices.

3. I strive to let people know that I appreciate things they do/give, help with, etc.

I don’t know if they are skills or just things I’ve learned in my many years
As you all know I deal with people with mental illness so be such I’ve picked up on being in tuned to things others don’t see or may not see for some time but I notice immediately - I don’t consider this a skill I think it’s more a learned behavior
At times it can be a double edge sword
I’m a very organized person - again skill ? Or product of my environment ? I live in chaos so I compensate by organizing what I can and yes I’m very good at it - I wish I could pack like I’m super organized - I know what I need and have the list but I’m always packing for just in case since I’m always dealing with those situations 🤣🤣
Never had to study much for school - again I don’t consider this a skill - as school to me was not challenging enough it was very boring
I do love to decorate and do think that is a skill - some have this and some don’t and it’s not always something you can learn
I’m a fair and honest person who will give you several chances to my own detriment but once you reach that point I’m done - I’m always willing to listen and help and I will always take my blame and own it if you say I’ve done something to hurt you - I will do my best to correct that immediately - so those traits I consider skills as not everyone is willing to have them
I truly try to wish others goodwill & blessings for no other reason than I hope they get them - it’s a trait I myself decided I wanted to do to be a better person - so that again to me is a skill as again not everyone will do this - so I may view this a little different - doesn’t mean your views are wrong - they are NOT - it just means I’m a little messed up had a lot of counseling and view the world a little different than most people so I go about it a little different because if that - which leads me to - I can agree to disagree and still maintain a Friendship - this skill I truly wish more people would practice !! We are all Dr Peppers ( individuals not the same ) and we all need to respect others opinions - this thread is awesome with the support and doing such - I truly hope it can spread to more people to help get the grateful message along !!!
Best Skill - I have a grateful heart !!

Hmm. I nearly skipped today (just one of those days), but I so liked reading all of yours. I feel I've got to know you just a little more.

So,

My sense of humor. I love lightness and silliness and laughing with people. One of my favorite things is when people are amused by their own lightheartedness and wit. I find it so endearing.

I like that I tend to see things differently from many. Don't get me wrong, it can be a pain and doesn't always win me favor (!), but, in the end, I still kinda like it!!!

Thanks in good part to my parents, a couple of early teachers and lots of childhood reading, I have a decent vocabulary and skill using it.
A few years ago, I watched a TV show highlighting the journeys of a few teenagers at a secondary (high) school. There was a girl, who showed a talent for English Literature, but her teacher pointed out that her language skills (she wrote as she spoke, very informally and with a lot of slang) hampered her ability to express her thoughts - especially in a way that would help her in course assessments and exams - and, therefore, was limiting the directions she might go in post education. She had the potential, but not all the tools, so-to-speak! Up until then, it was something I had taken for granted.

I agree and it made me think of this, which I have in a little frame: -

Yarn Bombing ?? I had to look it up ! At first I thought how stupid - then how silly- then well I guess could be kind of cute & funny - but they already have their own day ??? Those knitters really purl it off 🤣🤣🤣🤣 was it just one or two ?? If you don’t knit you won’t get it it’s dropped on you 🤣🤣🤣

I wish I could draw or paint ( not a room ) I can doodle really well but not really draw such an amazing talent to draw and it paint
So mine is doodle - if I’m stuck on a call it sitting in work meeting I’m doodling away - kills my boredom !

I like to refinish wood items - I can’t say I’m great but I’m pretty decent - I had done several pieces in my house - but to my immense sadness I’ve been told by my bone Dr absolutely do not do this ! I guess the screws they put in my neck can’t take the vibrating from the sander - have they not heard of lock tight ??? It’s like super glue for nuts & bolts - hello ?? So I can’t do that anymore
I do like to decorate my house - I have several items I switch out every month or two - change the mantel and the tables - I like picking a theme and then decorating it - I might do pirates or all Hawaii or beach - just depends on my mood - this only applies to downstairs & bathrooms - bedrooms are themed already and stay that way

I’m very grateful for Disney Artist leading off with my crush Joe Rohde ❤️❤️ such creative and amazing talent all of them - Joe has an amazing outlook on life he’s a very interesting person
I love looking at Paintings - I love the impression painters - I love Van Gogh and I love Frieda Kahlo - I’m grateful I’ve gotten to see several of their paintings over the years at our Art Museum or shows at the Museum
I’m grateful for book writers - story tellers like Stephen King and history writers - without them I wouldn’t have books to read nightly !!
Lastly - I’m grateful for TV - again without all the amazing artistic people to write / act / direct / produce / etc I would not have shows or docu specials to watch

During the early days of the pandemic, I was very grateful for chalk art. - People in my town would draw things on their sidewalks to cheer neighbors out on walks. (I both benefited and participated.)

DS and I always loved seeing the street performers when we would go into Boston on outings when he was a kid!

Grateful that we got to see this cool house on a recent trip to Florida. We had no idea it was there, but the gps took us a slightly different way than usual, and it was a fun surprise -

Three artistic

1. DD. Creative, arsty, crafty. Wants to go to art school someday.

2. A barn door rooster painting I bought 20 years ago at an antique fair. It's in the attic now, but I love it.

3. Yard flamingos. We lived in a neighborhood once where you may wake up to tacky pink flamingos as a joke.
