Three Sisters Skipping Down Main Street - Final shot(s) 3/28

Tiggerbell? The infamous Tiggerbell? I'm honored

Yes, the lanyard in the middle is mine (oops, should have put them in age order :rotfl: )

I teach so I was looking for the holidays and I scored Christmas, Thanksgiving and St. Patty's day (also DD's bday so she'll probably get that one)

Funny story - I asked MS and BS who there fave characters were but didn't tell them why...wanted to start with at least one keeper pin.

BS thinks I'm getting them matching t-shirts (which was a thought but didn't like the ones at the Disney store here and didn't want to do the iron ons) so she brings 5 (yes 5, and if she wants to correct me she'll have to sign up cuz she's just a lurker ;) ) pairs of capris so she could match any possible color!
:lmao:

Ashclan - three's a party! It's a must do! :dance3:

Ding, ding, ding!!

Tiggerbell wins the prize - Here's a Mickey bar for you!
:mickeybar

and one for DS for playing along at the age of 16 - must be a great guy!
:mickeybar

Found that interesting fact in One Man's Dream. Apparently Walt came up with the names first and then created the dwarves to match the personality of the name. Dopey is MS fave character so I thought that was a bit of trivia she'd like to know.

Dopey - modern?

AnnieinIowa - thanks for joining. Hope you're staying warm!

Littlekid58 - Love your name. I make a habit of following Jimmy B's advise (advice? there it is again?) of "Growing older but not up"

soldiersmom - thanks for the date. couldn't remember when it was done. I thought it was strange too.

Thanks to all for reading. I'm supposed to be packing for a family ski trip coming up but I'm trying to finish here before we go. Lots of pictures to come!

Love it love it love it! I'm loving your trip report! :cheer2:

Your pics of the pins and lanyards intrigue me....

No no no... I do NOT need something more to spend my money on! :scared1:

Can't wait for more... have fun skiing!

Marion,
you are getting sleepy....

the pins are nice, the pins are pretty, the pins can be worn on special occasions, the pins can be found on ebay for 1/2 their original price, the pins would be great to hand down to your grandchildren....

You will now be hooked!

Thanks for reading!

Part VII – Raul, our top-notch Brown Derby buddy

How appropriate - as I start to type it is exactly one week to the minute that we ventured in....

The Hollywood Brown Derby got the nod after I sent MS and BS the menus (remember the hours of planning?) About two weeks out I made a reservation for 2:10 which probably wasn’t necessary since the place wasn’t even half full but the lobby was packed at 3:30 when we left (post-parade walk-ins, I think).

The exemplary customer service began as soon as we walked in the door. The host, properly fitted with a brown derby (what a great retirement job!) greeted us graciously and our table was ready before we all got back from the restroom. We were escorted to a booth by another retiree (wooed BS with “young lady” reference) and then proceeded to drool over the menu.

Enter Raul.

Hailing from Columbia, he ensured our leisurely meal was entertaining, educational and lively (sorry, couldn’t complete the 3 E’s) Each of us was more than satisfied with our meals and nobody coveted someone else’s choice, as I usually do when I splurge on a special restaurant.

Here’s what we ordered:

Me:
Orecchiette with Rock Shrimp, zucchini and Portobello mushrooms in a white truffle-pesto cream sauce $17.89

IMG_8152.jpg

BS:
Barbecue Breast of Chicken with romaine hearts tossed in green goddess dressing and grilled flatbread $15.19
she chose to have the dressing on the side

IMG_8153.jpg

MS:
The Famous Brown Derby cobb Salad with finely chopped greens, turkey breast, bacon, egg, tomatoes, crumbled blue cheese, avocado, chives and cobb dressing $13.29

What? You don’t know the history of the Cobb Salad? Ask for Raul, he’ll give you the lowdown. It’s also on the back of the menu (which you scrapbookers will be pleased to know you can take home) but the Raul version is better.

Before the toss

IMG_8154.jpg

After Raul’s skilled tossing (the Cobb at the table next to us didn’t get nearly the perfected toss as MS’s did)
Yes, this is really the same salad.

IMG_8155.jpg

PS – Rob Cobb? What mother in her right mind would do that to her son?

All three meals got double thumbs up. The bread (how did I forget to take a picture of the bread? Wait, you can catch a glimpse of one next to the Cobb) served as a lovely accompaniment (sp?) and enabled us to save the dishwasher some time.

We thought we should have received special certificates for the clean plate award!

IMG_8156.jpg

Dessert simply put a cherry on top of the whole experience

Double Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee with Dark Chocolate dipped biscotti $7.59

IMG_8163.jpg

White chocolate macadamia nut praline cheesecake with blood orange sauce $7.69

IMG_8159.jpg

Ask for extra sauce, yummy!

OK, we cleaned all of our plates - where's our prize?

IMG_8164.jpg

Seriously, I got some evil eyes from BS when I licked the creme brulee dish. At least I used my finger! Apparently someone from the other table (the jealous one cuz her Cobb wasn't perfectly tossed) gave me a look mid-lick. BS was embarrassed by LS. Oh the horror! I paid good money for this! You bet I'm getting every bite!

Beer drinkers beware – Michelob Ultra Draft $5.50

Even though the restaurant wasn't very crowded. There was still plenty of PW going on.

Man behind us ordered and received three, yes three and all at the same time, very large glasses of coke. Downed them all. Bet he knows where all the potties are :rotfl:

Huge group sitting together when we arrived with kids, lots of kids. Hope the children's menu was good to them cuz I can't imagine what the bill was. And they didn't even eat all their dessert. Yes, I admit, I was tempted to just grab a little bite of the Brown Derby original Grapefruit cake - grapefruit icing? Yes, another reason I'll have to go back!

And the kids - all big bowed kids. Not in the knees, in the hair. Big bodacious bows in their locks. Teenagers too. Someone once told me that the size of the bow is in direct proportion to the size of daddy's wallet....

And, of course, the usuall entertainment of the rowdy siblings chasing each other around the table. All was fine and dandy, ma and pa were paying the bill, chatting, letting them roam wildly...until it happened. Big time collision with the server. Luckily she was just bringing their receipt. Dad's wrath was flowing and out the door he went with the little bronco - I was afraid a walloping was iminent...hmmmmmm...what a little proactive discipline can do for one's sanity...

A fantastic dining experience. We were rejuvenated and ready to hit the road.

We're heading to the Kingdom

Wow! I've never felt a strong pull toward the Brown Derby, but that sounded fabulous!!! If I do go, I'll get the grapefruit cake and let you know what I thought. Every one of the lunches looked yummy. I always kinda sorta thought that BD was too "gourmet"(ish) for my picky hubby, but he would love that bbq chicken. Thanks for the pictures, too! Love me some food pics ;)

My, my you are on a roll.

The food looks great. I want that salad. The licking the bowl had me :lmao: :lmao: Hey if you paid, do what you will with the dish.

The comment about the bows, were they red? Cause they were in my head :rotfl2:

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Grammy - I totally forgot! Raul bagged up the plate for me but I left it on the table. Bummer ;)
and the bows were more pastelly - pinks and yellow I think.

Ashclan - I wouldn't call it gourmet ish. I did have to ask what the Orecchiette with my shrimp was (pasta) but sis shared a piece of her chicken and it was soooooo tender!

Thanks for sticking around

Hmmm - and does the one husband know he is the only husband? Is he a golfer? Boater? Hanging out by the pool by himself?
That trip report would be an interesting read...

Totally NOT the way I meant it!!!
3 of us are married and 2 are not. There are 4 friends along with me going on the trip...5! And yes, the TR will be interesting, as Disney will never be the same again!!! :rotfl:

The comment about the bows, were they red? Cause they were in my head :rotfl2: :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

The pics in my head also had all those "little ladies" in BIG RED BOWS!!! :lmao:

Can't wait to hear more about the whirlwind trip! So far you girls are having a great time!!!

Part VIII – Appreciating the View

We parked close so we went ahead and walked to the car and zoomed over to the Magic Kingdom.

IMG_8171.jpg

The sis’ first stop was at the Emporium to find some more pins to trade. I have a tight wallet, remember, so I stood on Main Street to take in the atmosphere and gaze upon the castle.

IMG_8182.jpg

Ok, I know this isn't the view from Main Street but there was a construction wall messing up my memory of beauty.

I struck up a conversation with Chris, the photopass guy. I opened with, “You don’t appreciate this view do you?”

“Well, actually, I do!” he replied.

Chris proceeds to tell me that he did the college program, graduated, got a real job and hated it. So he went back to Disney and has been working there for 2 years. He worked 14 straight days and on his first day off, what do you think he did? He played at the park! That’s what I call loving your job.

When I visited with the whole family back in ’04, DH and I surveyed CM’s to figure out what our future retirement plans would be. DH is going to be a Monorail driver and I’m going to be a greeter like my buddy Stan here….

3x2firstpintrade.jpg

He started our first day, first visit to MGM with a flair. He traded DH her first pin and shared how he spent half the year in France growing grapes and making wine and the other half of the year greeting folks at the gate at MGM. This is why you talk to the CM's :)

What could be better than being surrounded by the Magic and being able to take your Grandkids to Disney for free??

Back to Main Street…

We were situated in a perfect spot to watch the flag lowering – a ceremony I obviously knew about (remember the hours of research?)

IMG_8179.jpg

Can’t describe it, had to be there – but can I vent about the inconsiderate folks who just kept walking and paid no attention to what was going on? Could they not hear the band????

So now it was time to skip down Main Street.
:dance3:

Well, two of us skipped. One was being anti-skippy and had this bizarre thing attached to her ear, which I didn’t think they allowed past the gate….If she only knew that I had this whole TR moment planned already…(maybe this will cause her to come out of lurkdom if the capri thing didn’t)

Back to Main Street…

The smells, the sounds, and…is something wrong? We’re walking against the flow – everyone else is heading toward the exit. ???

Yippee! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Did I call this right, or what? Insert pats on the back here.

My next special find thanks to all knowing Disers– locating the spot Roy saved for Walt, a prime view of the castle.

IMG_8180.jpg

Next up – Let’s ride!

DO - thanks for coming back to clear that up! Had me worried for a while!

5 of you - what a ball! Got room in your suitcase for me?

But I'm still holding out hope that you'll run into some Golden Fastpasses by the time it's over.

Suzflee, I'm really enjoying your TR. Those pictures are AWESOME! You put us right there with them. The only problem is now I'm craving some of that cheesecake.

So for that, you're on Ignore. Or are you?

Keep it comin!

:laundy:

Lala, the real Lala???? The TR posting with the laugh out loud witty comments Lala??

Again, I'm honored (smiley bowing down)

Thanks for visiting :goodvibes :goodvibes
