Three Generations at Disney – C’mon, Grandma! WE HAVE 3 DAYS TO GO!! Update 9/21

Hi DexLabDeeDee (or Jenna)! Your name pulled me in as I had to sit through lots of Dexter's Laboratory when I was younger - I blame my brothers!

Hello Tanz! Welcome to my pre-trippie!

I'm so glad that you understood my name - I'm surprised at how many people have not heard of Dexter's Laboratory! I always loved how Dexter would say, "DeeDee you are STEW-pid!" Sometimes, I wish I could say that to the people around me. :lmao:

Sounds like you've had a rollercoaster of a pre-trip! I hope that your flight goes well. I can't wait to read the TR of your first trip to Disney. Take lots of pictures, there's nothing like your first time!!

Joining in!!

We usually go during that time of September - and yes, it's still pretty hot. The last time we were there (in 2009) - there was a cool breeze on our last day :rotfl:

Isn't it crazy to have been to the world that many times and still have missed things?? We've never done Innovations, the Laugh Floor, or even the Back Lot tour. We haven't done the Hall of Presidents either - and my girls have actually requested that we do that. I can't figure out if they really want to do that or they are just dreaming of escaping the July heat!

Hi Kat!!

That's what's really great about Disney - there is always something new to try! I wonder if your girls will regret the Hall of Presidents after they sit through the show! I can't talk much because we'll be sitting through it ourselves - my mom LOVES the Hall of Presidents! That's another great thing about Disney - something for everyone!

Who knows?! But...they have this great idea for t-shirts - that we find portraits of the presidents and put Mickey ears on them. And then put a tag line something like "Where's the fast pass for Hall of Presidents?" I need to find someone creative enough to make them!

Haha! Sounds awesome. Have you tried the DISigns board here on the DIS? It's in the "Just for Fun" forum. I know that if you post a request, the creative DISigners will come up with something for you. They can't accept any payment for it but they'll do it for a very heartfelt Thank You!

Hello Jenna~ I'm joining your pre-trip report....
We are going WDW at the same time as you. Sept 24~30 at POFQ :cheer2:

Aaw...thank you for the warm welcome! I enjoyed reading your plans :goodvibes

That surprises me aswell as I would have thought more people watched the show. I love the way Dexter says STEW-pid to Dee Dee! :rotfl: It sure would be funny to be able to to say that to some people!!

Yes, we have had a rollercoaster ride and we haven't even been to Disney World yet! Thank you - I will definitely be taking lots of pictures as we have just purchased a camera to take with us! I look forward to seeing you on our TR! Lol, I'm talking as if I am leaving tomorrow...still 3 months, 3 weeks and 6 days to go!! :)

HI! We'll be neighbors! :goodvibes Have you stayed at POFQ before? I haven't. I've just stayed at POR and POP. I considered POFQ but I love POR so much that I just couldn't give it up! I'm definitely going to have to come down and try some beignets, though.

Any big plans for your trip?

Lol, I'm talking as if I am leaving tomorrow...still 3 months, 3 weeks and 6 days to go!! :)

I know! I sometimes feel like I'm leaving soon since I've been immersing myself in planning and reading other people's PTRs and TRs. 4 months and 1 week for us! I don't want to wish my summer away since we had such a hard winter but I wish September was next month! Oh well, at least we have the fun of summer to look forward to!

This has nothing to do with our trip but I just reached 600 posts!! :cheer2: Never mind that I've been here since 2008! :rotfl: I really should post more!

Exciting! I've been here since 2006 - and I'm just in the 200s. Shows that I am a lurker at heart :)

I had to go again to the Mall of America yesterday. (It seems like I go a lot but I really don't!) This time I was going to Nordstrom's to get a gift for my cousin-in-law's personal shower this weekend. The only Nordstrom's department store in Minnesota is in the Mall of America. We have a few Nordstrom's Racks around but the full store is only there. I don't normally shop at Nordstrom's so the prices shocked me a little. Luckily, I'm going in with four other people so we were able to get something decent. We were a little hampered by our budget, too, as we're also the ones putting the shower together and our budget wasn't as large as it might have been otherwise. A little under two months until the wedding!

Anyway, the reason I am posting this is because I went to the Skecher store while I was there and got some walking sandals for Disney!

I'm really excited to try them out this summer and see if they'll work out. I hope so! I love Skecher shoes.

As I was driving through the parking ramp, I once again noticed all the license plates from other states. My friend works in the Mall and says that she meets a lot of people from all over. I forget that for some, the Mall is something different and a neat activity while on vacation. To me, the newness and excitement has worn off and now it's like a comfortable pair of shoes. Nice but not super special. I wonder if this is what Disney is like for people who live nearby and go often. (Not that Disney and the Mall of America are on the same level!) I just wonder if you stop feeling the pixie dust after awhile. That's why I think I wouldn't want to live there. I want to make sure I keep feeling the pixie dust! :woohoo:

I love the Sketcher shoes!!! Sounds like they will be great for the parks.

I am totally with you on the newness of things wearing off that are nearby. Although I love The Trafford Centre (shopping mall near us) I have been there soo many times now that it doesn't hold the same level of excitement as the first few trips.

Though I'm not sure if I would ever get fed up of having Disney World on my doorstep!!

Just a quick little update. I called Disney and got our flight info on our reservation even though I haven't heard back from Mandy. I still don't know if she has a ticket yet. Delta prices keep climbing. :scared1:

When I called Disney (after getting through the loooong prompts), I was put on hold for about 7 minutes and I got to listen to Swisskapolka! I've never heard that on hold before! For those of you who don't know, Swisskapolka is from the Christmas scene in the Swiss Family Robinson movie and you can hear it when you walk through the Swiss Family Treehouse. I always feel like dancing when I get up there but I'm afraid I'll fall out of the tree!

I'm in that Disney planning lull where there isn't much to do at the moment. There'll be more as we get closer but I just have to wait it out! My mom's birthday is this weekend, so I'll get to give her the shirt and the card for the Garden View Tea Room. And I'll see what she says about tea with just Jane or also with Grandma, Aunt Anne and Mandy. So a little bit of something, I guess.

I totally forgot to do this on Friday so it's not exactly true but...

:banana::dance3::banana:120 Days to Go!!!!:banana::dance3::banana:

Also....today is 333 day! 3 Months, 3 Weeks and 3 Days until Disney! I sent out a countdown email on Friday to everyone with a generic packing list of things that people might want to bring. I went to the dollar spot at Target and got some glow bracelets that were out for the 4th of July. I got extras to use for MNSSHP! I highly recommend going to Target or going to the Dollar Store and getting glow things for parades/parties at Disney. It is waaaay cheaper than buying things there. I also buy an extra tube of bracelets because sometimes not all the bracelets in the tube work. Hey, it's a dollar, what can you expect?

We celebrated my Mom's birthday yesterday. She was really excited about tea at the Grand Floridian. She says that she wouldn't mind having tea with everyone but Jane thinks that she might want to have tea with just Mom. They'll have to come to an agreement, I guess. I'm so glad that I made the ADRs for 5 people, though! It's so much easier to take people off than to add them later!

Mom also got a gift card to use towards the refillable mug that she loves so much. Mandy and Aunt Anne are also giving that gift to Uncle Dan for Father's Day next month. Apparently, Uncle Dan and Mom were deprived of pop as children and it's still a major treat for them.

It's getting warmer here and it's starting to feel like summer (even though it's been raining a lot).

I just went to the Disney website and it says that I have 137 days until my vacation. :confused3 Weird. I downloaded Disney Vacation Connection widget for my desktop and it's correct....so huh. I wonder what date Walt Disney World is counting down to for me. Maybe they are giving me a free trip! :lmao:

We went to a wedding this weekend and we sat with a couple we had never met at our table. Well, we started talking about vacations and they asked if DH and I if we knew anything about Disney. My DH snorted, stuck out his thumb and said, "She does."

I told them that I go frequently and I'm going again this September. The wife says, "But I thought you didn't have any kids?"
"We don't but I love to go anyway. The youngest person going this September is 24. I've actually never gone with kids. I have no idea what it's like."

The wife was impressed and thought it was a great idea. The husband was confused and asked, "What do you do if you don't have kids?"

I tried to explain without going into too much detail. I basically said that there is so much for adults to do in addition to kids and I don't have to worry about anyone but myself. The wife started to get excited and told her husband that they should take their 10-year-old and 18-month-old to Disney next. The husband said that maybe the wife could go with her mom but he wasn't interested.

He then turns to me and says, "Our 10-year-old is too old for Disney. I plan on taking him camping and hunting so he can learn some real skills."

Now, I don't have any problem with camping or hunting (okay, I get a little creeped out by people killing Bambi but I try not to think about it) but I just can't believe that he would turn to me and say that after I had just talked about going as an adult. What do you mean, he's too old? He doesn't like rides or pirates or Toy Story or adventure?

I know it's hard to convince someone who has no clue but man, did he listen to anything I said? It isn't all about toddlers running around hugging Mickey and Cinderella.

Oh well, one less family in line ahead of me!

Too old for Disney? :rotfl:

I have a friend that was asking me to do some rate research for him and his three kids to go to Disney - he has 2 teens and a 7 year old. He was thinking that the older ones would be bored! I guess people really do think it's all about getting autographs or something. Crazy!!

I'm glad/sad that it's not just me that gets this reaction! I can't imagine being too old for Disney. If I ever feel too old, I might as well throw in the towel and give up on life!

People are so funny. Takes all kinds.

Is your friend for sure going to go?

I've given up trying to explain to people what it 'is' about Disney that keeps me going back. There are just some people in this world that are not meant to capture that Disney magic (which means more for us!!!!!)
