We currently have 150 OKW points which we bought to use for a grand villa EOY. I've been torturing myself in trying to decide between AKV (granddaughter will love it) and BWV (I love it!) for the "other year". Then I thought, why not get 100 points at each and use them to do a 3-year bank/use/borrow cycle between the 3 resorts. Any reason I'm not seeing that I shouldn't go this route? Thanks!

The fact that rules for banking and borrowing can be changed…ie: the 50% borrowing rule.

However, because it’s not your only resort, you will have other options if something like that happens again, which would give you flexibility.

Not if you are borrowing/sharing points from other resorts. Those are only usable at the 7 month window

I'm not combining resorts: AKV: bank 2022 AKV points, use 2023 AKV points, borrow 2024 AKV points. Book at AKV for a 2023 trip.

Yes, good to keep in mind- thanks!

So how will you do that

Buy a resort with 2022 points but take a trip in 2023

Buy your next resort with 2023 points and use those on a 2024 trip

Then buy your third resort with 2024 points for use on a 2025 trip

Then repeat the cycle?

I would ask what you are trying to book at AKV and Boardwalk? Do you need home resort priority for the room category or time of year? AK is pretty easy to get a room at and we’ve also been able to get 1 bedrooms and garden/pool studios at Boardwalk at or after 7 months.

I'm looking to book grand villas- mostly in the fall, so I would definitely need the 11 mo booking for BWV. With BW's higher price (than AKV) and 2042 expiration date, I'd hate to buy extra BWV points to use at AKV.

The real issue is that you may end up stranding/losing a few points. It's very hard to get a contract that is exactly 1/3 of what you need, especially if you don''t travel within the same season every time or the point charts change (reallocation). For some, losing a few points every year would be very stressful.

Try planning a few "every -3-years" trips before you buy. Every other year is much easier to do.

I see your point, thanks. I try to take a long-weekend trip each year in addition to the large family trip, so I may be able to use left over points, there. I can also rent them out if needed.

How many nights in the GV? 3 years of 100 points/year = 300 points. That won’t even cover 3 weeknights in the fall at BWV (2023 & 2024: October & November Sunday-Thursday 101 points, Friday-Saturday 114 points). Be sure to review the points charts before deciding how many points you need at each resort for an every 3 year stay in a GV.

You're right. We only typically stay 5 nights, so we would need 200 at each, not 100.

Actually, I realized that with three resorts you can’t really do the every three years with that because you’d have to bank points from two of the three each year,

So, I don’t think it will work the way you hoped it!
Ugh- that's right. Back to the drawing board!

I'm unsure of the issue pointed out with the three contracts. Isn't your plan to use one, borrow from one, and bank the other each year? Getting exact point would be hard, but I don't see why what Sandisw would kill the option.

It is a good idea in theory but I find we end up grabbing points from different contracts— it is just very hard to stick to.
