.....suggests that a rumor has been substantiated by a cast member - River Country and the horse barn will be demolished in order to make way for a new DVC resort. I don't know what to think about it, but thought some of you might want to check it out.

I personally I would be thrilled but other posts suggest I am in the minority! Bring on the golf carts, outdoor space, privacy and being able to eat outdoors in the middle of Feb.!

I think it is too soon to start building a new resort on the grounds. I've heard it was something more related to the campground.

Yeah but would you want to share those amenities with the FW guests?

I am glad they are tearing down River Country and found something to do with the space. I just think since there is a WLV, why do we need more DVC with the same type of theming? Personally I am not interested in a Wild West themed resort (that is the theme rumored to be going there) and I don't know how many people would want to buy here or add on here if they have to share amenities with FW guests.:confused3

I think DVC would have a difficult time trying to sell a resort based at the campground as a "deluxe" property. Of course, they could make a new "value class" DVC, as has been rumored before. But that would dilute the brand name, no?

I'm not opposed to it location-wise per se, but I really think marketing would be difficult, and would have an overall negative effect on the perceived high end timeshare status of DVC.

I agree. Can't see DVC at Fort Wilderness. Not sure where or what else I would like, but not a "value class" DVC.

You know, I just don't know what to make of this post... I know I must have read this wrong, but I am getting a strong feeling that you look down upon the FW guest... :confused3

Please help me understand.

I meant exactly what the previous posters said. DVC is sold as a deluxe property, FW is a camp ground and not considered a Deluxe resort. Nothing against anyone who stays at the campground at all.

Also, FW has a ton of guests and if DVC had to share amenities with that resort I just think it would be too many people sharing amenities. Am I wrong to think that FW is a huge resort with a lot of guests?

I don't know if this is true or not but if it is, I have no doubt DVC can make it desirable enough to sell. They sold SSR and this is likely to be at least as easy to sell as SSR was. While there are road blocks, there is a lot of potential to the option. It will also likely have the distinction of being the only on property resort routinely available if this does happen.

In terms of a DVC "value resort" i'm all for it. I don't know why people have to be high on their horse about things. It's not like DVC is unobtainable and some sort of badge of honor. Heck I managed to afford it as a single parent. I own at two DVC properties and I still occasionally stay at value resorts, I only wish I had the option to use points there, I could stay for even longer and the food courts are super convenient. We enjoyed the night we got at Pop century this stay!

I may be in the minority but I would love to see it. DH grew up staying in the campground and really misses it. We however can afford dvc but cannot afford a nice fifth wheel and vehicle to tow it. That makes dvc look super inexpensive so all the campers, you are classier than me:). As for a value dvc, no way. Think that would be bad thing.

I don't understand the mentality on this thread at all! At the campgrounds you have everything from people staying in tents to million dollar rigs. I have never run into a person at the campground that thought they were better than someone else. I wish I could say the same for the people on this thread.
I could easily afford to buy into the DVC timeshare but I chose to buy my 38 ft diseal pusher RV that I could take anywhere in the country. Plus I always have my own bed to sleep in. (NO bed bugs for me!) Does that make me a lesser person??? No it does not. Does it make you a better person because you bought into the DVC? Again....NO it does not. To each their own!

Yet another knock to SSR. I do not get it?!

Moderator Note:

No one on this thread has stated anywhere that they consider campers as low-class. The comments have been directed at the current amenities available at the campgrounds, and the increased number of guests that a large DVC development using those amenities would bring. DVC resorts are currently marketed as Disney Deluxe class resorts. Those resorts have different amenities, including table service dining, bell services, and other amenities typically not found at campgrounds.

This thread is not a campers vs. DVCer thread, and it will not be allowed to turn into such a thread. It is a thread discussing a rumored Fort Wilderness DVC, and aspects of such a resort, including marketing perceptions, amenities, popularity, etc.

Further off topic posts will be removed, and appropriate infractions issued.

I think they could market it as extension to Wildnerness Lodge and do fine. If they build it, which I am not sure I believe this rumor, it's location near the campground does not necessarily mean amenties will be shared like they are at Wilderness Lodge.

I like Pop Century, too. But from a purely marketing standpoint, it is perception, perception, perception. A value class DVC would dilute the DVC brand for marketing, just as you won't see See's Candies or Godiva Chocolates selling Hershey bars and M&Ms. It isn't what people expect from DVC. Unless they spend big bucks adding/upgrading amenities, and bus/boat services, it would overcrowd everything.

If it was dubbed a "value class" DVC resort, it is doubtful it would sell for $100 or more per point. Or it would require many, many fewer points per night, so not as many points would be sold to each buyer...neither of which makes good marketing sense for the brand.

Are they still working on finishing the Pop Century resort? (I think this is the one). If they keep building DVC/resorts - do you think another park might be in their plans in the future? I am just picturing the parks during peak times........... Just curious.

My original post may have created this firestorm - if so, I apologize. When I said "I don't know what to think about it", I was referring to the credibility of the substantiated "rumor". I was not in anway referring to the desirability of a resort close to Fort Wilderness. In fact, I am in the process of planning a stay at "the Fort" right now for the spring. They could build a DVC resort with villas designed to look like motorhomes, and I'd stay there.:)
