Just wanted to stop by and check in. Kids are at the in-laws! :cool1: Let the good times begin! :lmao:

Hope everyone has a great Holiday Weekend!

God Bless those who have served and those who continue to do so.

WE'RE HOME!!!!!!!

The doc thinks Laura's problem may be her medication, so he decreased the dosage a bit, and will drop it a little more after a week. Then we go for an office visit and EEG on June 4 to see how it's going. Hopefully this will be the answer we're looking for!

So, now that DD is taken care of, naturally DS has to create an issue. Apparently he got his hands on the writing journal of a boy who had moved away, and he took out a page and was reading it on the bus and making fun of the spelling errors, etc. (like HIS spelling is any better!!:lmao: ) So I got a call from the Guidance Counselor about that. Consequence is no bus next week--I will drive him every morning. He is NOT happy! GOOD! Then, in aftercare he got in trouble. Why/ He told off a 2 year old!! Yup. He built a sand castle on the playground, and someone's baby brother accidently knocked it over, so DS (11 years old, BTW, but the size of an 8 year old) yelled and screamed at the poor baby and made him cry!. I blasted him good about that, and took away his electronics priveleges. He's got to learn to control his temper--jeez, he's soooo much like his father it's scary.

We're planning a quiet weekend. The washing machine repairman is coming tomorrow AM to figure out why my clothes are still soaking wet when they get through the washer. Then BFF and her kids are coming, and we hopefully will take the kids to the new Narnia movie. Sunday they're with their father, and Monday we're going to my parents' for a BBQ. Other than that, I'm a mean mom and I'm going to make them CLEAN!!!

Pepper, sorry you're sick! Hope you feel better soon.

MK, I never ate at Raglan Road, but I've heard rave reviews from all over. It's a definite for my next trip to WDW.

It's been over 12 hours and here I am replying to myself!:confused3 WHERE have all the TKers gone???

It is a glorious day here in NJ--sunny, blue skies, going up to 75 today! The washing machine guy was here bright and early at 8 (so much for sleeping in...), breakfast has been made, eaten, and cleaned up, and I even made a big pot of stewed rhubarb with strawberries--YUMMO!!

I am heading out to the gym in a little bit--gotta get this bod moving after 3 days of being a lump. DD has golf this afternoon and then I'm gonna relax and enjoy the rest of my day! I'm thinking it's too nice for the movies--maybe on a rainy day...

So, come out, come out, wherever you are! Doesn't ANYONE want to play???

Good Morning,Whgrn,

I hope you get to enjoy your weather!:beach: :cool1:

I need to install a revolving door on my house for this weekend!:goodvibes

stewed rhubarb with strawberries--YUMMO!! I love that stuff! I am now the only person in the family that likes it so I don't get it too often.

I have the same issue-I want to see Harrison Ford, but it is so nice out that I don't want to waste the time.

:scared1:15 days and I am no where near ready.

Just checking in real quick. Its beautiful in PA too, unfortunately, I'm stuck inside of a tv studio w/ no windows. Maybe I'll try to eat lunch outside.

Whgrn - I'm glad things seem to be on the upswing w/ DD. As for DS, I think ALL boys regress to that kind of behavior sometimes (whether they are 11 or 50.) Sorry you have to drive, but I'm sure it will make an impact.

Bopsmom and Whgrn - Rhubarb and strawberries, huh? I'm skeptical, but I'm always looking to try something new. I try to make a rule of trying everything once before I pass judgement. I love strawberries, but I've never had rhubarb, and I'm generally not a huge fan of stewed. (Except tomatoes... I love stewed tomatoes if they are seasoned right.) What does Rhubarb taste like?

As for my weekend, working today. BBQ w/ the in-laws tomorrow, and then on Monday, DS has been invited to his first birthday party that's not family! He's SO excited. Its one of the little girls at his babysitters... she's turning 2. She came to DSs party a few weeks ago, and they had so much fun together. She and the other little girl are the only reasons I think he'll be sad to leave his babysitters and go to daycare. He's very excited to go to "school" (his first day is June 4th, although I may take him on the 3rd for a half day to help him acclimate). But, I don't think its registered that he won't be w/ his other friends each day yet.

Anyway, other than that, hoping to catch up a little around the house. Hope everyone is enjoying the milder weather. Have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you to any of you who have served or have families in who are or have served our military. Bless our soldiers near and far, past, present and future.

Almost forgot...

One of my co-workers is planning a trip to WDW. (Last minute and just a few days). He and his wife will be going around June 8th. I've skimmed the Codes and Rates boards, but haven't seen anything. Have any of you seen any discount offers for that time?

Thanks.

Hello All,

Enjoying our "staycation" this weekend. Not using the cars for 3 whole days!! Got our BBQ stuff ready. Bought a new grill - Webber kettle grill - got to have that charcoal taste or its not a BBQ  so no gas/propane for us. If the temps get above 60 this weekend I plan to spend it on my patio. :yay:

Magikitty - We like David Cook too. Glad he won. Must have been all your votes. ;) There is a Chocolate Fest in Burlington, WI this weekend. Thought you'd enjoy that
fudgepop.gif
being hormonal and all. :lmao:

Sorry that everyone is  . Hope y'all recover soon.

Okay...so I started this "Thank a Vet" thread in hopes of honoring those who have given their lives (either literally or figuratively) in service to our country. Thought more would visit and thank someone or remember someone dear. However, I've only had about 4 posters and 2 of them told me (in a nice way I guess) that Memorial Day is just for those who died in service. While I fully understand the meaning of Memorial Day, I also thought we should remember those whose lives will never be the same after serving in combat, etc. who, in my opinion, ALSO gave their "life" for our country.
Kinda disappointed. :sad1:

Can I have the link for your thread? I would like to post on it.

Yes, please post the link. Its a very nice thought. And, I agree that Memorial Day is officially a "memorial" for those who lost their lives in service, but I don't think there is ever an inappropriate day to also give thanks to those whose lives have been forever altered by making that kind of commitment. Just as you tend to hold your loved ones a little tighter when you hear of a tragedy, rather than simply mourning those who are gone; it makes sense to me that we might say a prayer or give thanks for those soldiers fighting now as we remember those who have fallen in battle.

Hi!
My DH hogged the cpu this morning. :sad2: We just got back from watching the Narnia movie. I enjoyed it. We don't get enough rainy days, if I waited for a rainy day I wouldn't see any movies.
whgrn I'm glad you like rhubarb and you can have it. :crazy2: We grew rhubarb in our backyard and my mom would make strawberry rhubarb jam.
D&DDisney The thread was still a nice thought. :flower3:
lighttech Sorry I can't help with any codes. Since I've been back from my trip I just haven't been interested in codes. :rolleyes1 It takes awhile before I start missing Disney.

Rhubarb is a bit tart, which is why I add the strawberries--needs less sugar that way! It sort of looks like big red celery. I grew up on rhubarb pie (LOTS of sugar!) and I love, love, LOVE it!!

Stewed rhubarb is SO easy to make. The reason it's "stewed" is that it cooks down. I used 3 pounds of rhubarb (10 cups) and 2.5 cups of strawberries and came out with a little over 6 cups of stewed rhubarb, so that's basically about 50%.

Here's the recipe if you want to try it:

1 pound rhubarb (about 4 good sized stalks) cut into chunks about 1/2" wide
1 cup cut up strawberries
2T water
1/4 cup sugar ( I use the organic turbinado, like Sugar in the Raw--it's sweeter)

Put fruit and water in a pot. Cook 5 minutes on high, stirring occasionally. Add sugar, cook 5 minutes more on med-high until soft and mushy. Cool.

Makes 4-6 servings.

For those on WW, eliminate the strawberries, and change the sugar to 2T, add 1/3 cup Splend, and follow the same directions. It will make 4 servings, 1/2 point each!

I like it warm when I first make it, then cold right from the fridge the rest of the time. You can warm it and put it over ice cream or even cake. Or just eat it plain.

Thanks for posting Pikester. There have been some other nice posts since then too.

Not sure if I ever told ya but I love your Star Wars Family in your siggie.
If I copy that in the future, just take it as a compliment.

Also saw how you are hoping for the 50s building at POP in Dec. We stayed in the 50s building in Oct. overlooking the Pin Pool. Didn't request it and I got the room for $59 a night. Wasn't expecting that for $59. Thought we'd be bannished to the outskirts for that price.

WOW!!!!!!! Gas is up to $4.19 here today Where will it end???

Good evening everyone. I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.

I wanted to ask a question. There is this man who I see sitting by the side of the road all the time about 1 mile from our house. He always has a sign that says he is a retired Vet and will work for food or money. He has a doggie that sits with him. I have no way of knowing if he is a Vet or not, but I do know he must be down on his luck.
I see him all the time and have always wanted to stop and give him a few bucks. Well, today I did. I don't care if he is a Vet or not, he is a person in need and I am glad I could help. I would have loved to given him more , but until I find a job, money is very tight for us right now. The way I figured, he is probably worse off than me. He is a very friendly man and appreciated what little I could do for him today.

I just like to help where I can. Would anyone else have done what I did or am I just a big sap?

Kim

Kim honey, if you're a big sap, then you're in good company! I would have done the same thing you did. God bless you for caring enough to stop and try to help him.

Copy away! :upsidedow

I have heard many great things about the 50s building. Close to the Food Court, quiet and if you get the right building you can see evening fireworks. As you can see from my siggie we stayed in the 70s building the last time we went. If you were facing the big wheel building;we were on the 3rd floor facing the lake and on the right side (closest to the food court). I loved being there in December. I SO love Christmas carols and it was so awesome having Christmas carols being piped in over the grounds. Loved the decorations! Loved the fact that when we got home we still had Christmas Day to look forward to (we went 2 weeks before Christmas). We are doing the same thing this year. Going Dec 7th -Dec 14th. By the time we get home (We are driving), the kids will have 4 days of school and then it's Christmas vacation! :woohoo:

Good Morning
Lucky you getting to take the kids out of school for a trip-that is totally taboo in our District-they consider it unexcused and won't let them make up work for "unexcused" absents.

We are going for Christmas too.:santa: but after looking at everyone's tickers I don't see anyone going at the same time. (12/20-12/26-BW,1br,BWV) if you are and I missed it-tell me!
We are actually, kinda avoiding Christmas at home and taking DM with us.
We have been for Thanksgiving before and loved the decorations then.

Has anyone taken the Decorations Tour that is offered? I Love to decorate and so does DM-DD is :furious: because she is not old enough to go on it. I thought this might be a fun tour getting to see the warehouses, etc but wondered if anyone else has taken it.

We are going to drive (15 hours from Houston):faint: and even thought of staying a day or so at Universal? Any recommendations-do you think it will be too late to get a reservation there? I have never been to Universal.

I hope you are all getting good weather. :beach: and enjoying their weekends and family:grouphug:

My cilantro is in seed now,the lettuce is bolting, and we are fighting the racoons for tomatoes-we don't mind sharing but, it has got to quit "washing" it's food in the pool!
Has anyone else gotten something sprouting?

Happy Memorial Day everyone! Hope everyone is safe and happy.

Bopsmom, if you have a car during your stay, I highly recommend going to Universal for one day! I don't know how busy it is during the holiday week, but I was there last November, and they were starting to put their decorations up. Seussville was so cute! They also have a Macy's Holiday parade, which I missed coz I was there too early. You can also get amazing prices on tickets. I don't know about staying onsite, they seem to have deluxe accomodations associated with the park. Since you have a car, I'd just drive over rather than transfer.

Kim, what a lovely gesture. I would have stopped also. You did a wonderful thing.

D&D...I'm going to check out your thread. I think those who pointed out what Memorial Day is SUPPOSED to be about, missed the point entirely. People died for our county's benefit. People enlist in the military knowing that risk is quite real. We should remember and salute all of our military, past and present.

lighttech...if I see something, I'll let you know about codes.

Where do you get rhubarb? I never see it at my grocers. I did get cherries and strawberries yesterday. Yum!

TTYL all! OOh, there's different smilies on the side here. Let me use one..:stir: (hee hee)

I do feel lucky to be able to take the kids out of school. I know there is that whole debate "to take the kids out" or "to not take them out". I figure I'm the parent and I'll make the decision that is best for my kids. Both of my kids do very well in school and will be able to play catchup when we get back or the teachers are usually nice about giving extra work the week before so they can get a little ahead and they have the kids keep journals during the trip. Atleast they did the last time we went. Not sure what the teachers for the next school year will do. This will be our last "take the kids out of school" trip though. Once my oldest gets into 6th grade I think taking him out would be to disruptive to his schooling. In my district, there are no excused or unexcused absences at the elementary level. That starts in the High school. I'm sure there must be some sort of policy for kids who miss tons of school but I was unable to find anything in the handbook and since my kids don't typically miss a lot haven't had to deal with anything.

I hope none of what I have written above sounds cranky or angry. When I was typing it out I was doing so in a nice voice in my head!:rotfl: You can never tell how someone is going to read what you post.

The raccoon washing his food in your pool! :lmao:
