We currently own 100 CC points.

We'd like to add on 200 pts and have thought and debated our various options.

Based on today's info from our salesperson- we could add on at Riviera with an incentive of $3700.

We could add on at Copper Creek with a $1,400 incentive.

Obviously we could also opt for re-sale but at this moment have ruled that out.

What would you do and why? We typically stay at MK resorts or Beach club.

This is a personal choice for sure. Personally, I would select Riviera. I just am not fan of resorts with any mode of transportation to get to parks other than busses. I prefer ability to walk/monorail/skyliner to a park.

Word of advice, I would break that 200 points up into four 50 point contracts if possible. If you ever need to sell the points, you'll be able to sell a portion of them and get more money per point.

If you typically stay at Beach Club, you won't be getting it with Riviera or CCV points consistently.

I would do CCV because the rooms will be less expensive per night and you can get more there, but also you should buy where you want to stay, so if you wouldn’t stay at Riviera, then buy CCV and vice versa.

Well...I am of the mind (and as a current owner of 4 home resorts) that having multiple 11 month booking advantages (meaning multiple home resorts) is better. I am also in agreement with breaking up into smaller contracts in case of the need to downsize later (but you will have to pay closing costs on each contract so I'd do 100, 50 and 50 or 100 and 100). So I might say go with RR. However the resale restrictions for this resort scare me (fear reselling will be at a low price) and it does take a lot more points than CCV for a room. But it will give you an Epcot/HS resort AND a MK resort. Can do a sweet split stay where you would only need to bus to AK. ANd CCV is tough to book even for owners (we have a small contract there and could not get a studio in Dec). And the 1BR at CCV does not allow 5 guests (if that matters to you). For myself, if we were to add on I would prefer to add more CCV (we have 70 CCV, 255 BWV, 125 HHI and are actually selling our 200 OKW). DH likes the looks an idea of RR so I could have convinced him to maybe add on there....but I'd prefer 50 more CCV.

Hmm, what do you want to do with your extra points? I agree with PP, it’s a personal choice for what matters most to you.

If you buy more at CCV, you’ll have more options there at the 11-month window (larger rooms and/or longer stays).

If you buy at another resort, you’ll have 2 home resort booking windows. (Maybe split stay at each or bank/borrow to alternate resorts each year.)

You could ask your guide if you could be put on a waitlist to buy points at an older resort (but I don’t think there’d be any incentives).

Personally I don’t like the restrictions added into Riviera’s contract so I have a hard time recommending it, but I know it’s not a big deal to others. And it would give you an EP/HS resort in addition to your MK resort.

May I ask why you ruled out resale for now?

You are aware they can sell you points to any resorts, yes? If you stay at MK resorts or Beach Club then Riviera doesn't seem to fit. Does CCV fit? I'd also consider resale especially for that number of points and because you already have a qualified membership.

I'd consider resale if you're a current member with all the membership benefits

Thank you for all of the responses.

In answer to a few questions- we are considering resale but based on the buying process it seems a little more complicated than what we would like at this moment. We would like the chance to use our points at Riviera and any future resorts as we don't know what those may be.

I like the suggestion of buying smaller contracts in groups. We have not had issues with booking 7 months out because we like 2bdrs, and so far the availability has worked out. Thanks again for taking time to provide your thoughts and opinions! DISBoarders are the best.

Use your CCV points to stay at Riviera, and buy resale at the resort where you want to stay. Alternatively, buy another block of points at CCV direct, and then a smaller contract to stay at the resort where you want to stay.

The often repeated manta "buy where you don't mind staying" or "buy where you want to stay" is going to become a hard and fast rule 10 years from now when Riviera resale owners are only able to book at Riviera, which will impact anyone else staying there. Since this is the new DVC model, you can expect it at Reflections, as well.

Resale purchasing isn't more complicated than buying direct, but it does take longer, and there are more variables involved in making an offer as opposed to just paying the direct price.

Just have to say that it's an expensive chance. And resale is not complicated - it just takes a little longer. Any broker would walk you thru or help you with the process.

My main question gets back to is CCV or Riviera the place you want to stay most of the time? You mention MK resorts, but not CCV specifically as the one to stay at, and of course BCV which you'll have very mixed luck of getting into. You should purchase at a resort that you would be happy staying at all of the time if that happened. It won't and you'll likely be able to trade but it's going to ease disappointment if you can't get into BCV.

Yes it takes a little longer. But you can save some $$. If you buy CCV resale they are not buying it back since they are still selling it. Makes ROFR a lot easier to deal with. Good luck. We started with 150 points and now have 350. Originally bought resale the 25 points for the benefits, then added another 75, then 100 at another resort, both were direct. .
