thoughts on using gold...

Saying that using Gold Ammo in Pirates is cheating is like saying sandbagging in the old version of fireworks was cheating.

It's part of the game - it's how the game was designed - get used to it, get over it, and stop complaining about it.

Personally, I wouldn't really compare those two. While I agree that neither of those are considered cheating, I don't really think that sandbagging was really part of the old fireworks like the gold is in pirates. Sure, the scoring in the old fireworks was designed stupidly and you HAD to lose to get good credits, but I don't think they intentionally desgined the game to make people want to lose. We know, however, that they designed pirates to allow people to use the gold.

And to get back on topic... heh.... Cruise and I actually have characters that we made just for playing pirates. She is GoldUser and I'm GoldWaster. Just to warn people that we're "cheap" and DO use the gold Well.... she uses gold.... I kind of just shoot at rocks and stuffz.... which.... is why I'm the GoldWaster

Ok I have not voted because I feel middle of the road.

I feel that really if you desire to be a full fledged pirate that you need to acquire regular shooting skills. To many players rely on gold as their saving grace because their shooting skills are not there. Therefore for an unskilled pirate to use gold, gold is cheating. Why? Because you have not earned skills from the game you are depending on gold to help you.

As a retired seasoned pirate, yes I will use gold because I have the ability to shoot well without the gold also, but hey still need to defend myself. I will also dump gold depending on who my opponents are too. Remember although the game is to earn credits, I do like to play it as a game of skill.

Hmmm... well you said in your post that you found it "annoying" to be shot by gold... I think we'd all agree with that... That's a whole lot different than saying it's "cheap" or it's "cheating." Sure I get annoyed when I get sunk by gold... especially if I had a lot of credits... but that's part of the game. It's MY FAULT that I got sunk.... I should have played better.... I also get annoyed when I get sunk while I'm stuck. Is it wrong for them to shoot me? Is it cheap? Of course not! Again, MY FAULT for getting stuck in the first place...

It's not wrong to be "annoyed"... just make sure you're annoyed with YOURSELF... not the other person doing the shooting...

The only time I will NOT use gold is when playing Capture the Flag because I'm after the most credits that I can get from each game. I'd rather hit someone 3-4 times or more and get more credits than one shot with the gold... so I'll normally pick up the gold if I'm near it, then head to the corner of the map and shoot it out over rocks just to get it out of the game...

My point is that the game is designed that way. Who knows what their intention was - I sure can't speak for the Design Team. Either way the game was/is designed a specific way, and people play to its design.

For those of you that think being sunk by gold is cheap, then..... don't get hit by the gold!! Don't let the enemy ship bearing the gold get too close to you and learn how to maneuver your ship better to avoid the gold ammo that's flying towards you... It's not cheap when it's *your fault* that you get hit...

Not sure why it's cheap. I understand that it can be annoying to die suddenly.

Why it makes you feel cheat out of a win, when you have been beaten by the rules of the game and therefore, lost, I cannot understand. You have not been cheated out of a win. You lost. You were beaten by someone who played with a strategic move: gold.
