Thoughts on the Nikon D3100 or D5100?

We're attempting to purchase our first DSLR camera! I *think* we've narrowed it down to either the Nikon D3100 or the Nikon D5100, but I thought I'd come here for some insight. Does anyone have any thoughts on either of these cameras, or a recommendation for a decent entry level DSLR? Any help would be appreciated!

I could ask you a question. What got you narrowed down to just these two?

I personally think the Pentax K-r is hard to beat for bang for the buck.

I have the D5100 and love it. I think the D3100 or 5100 are good choices but remember that you don't get a focus motor or in body stabilization. I dont think you can go wrong with any of the newest DSLR's. Keep in mind that Pentax and Sony have in body stabilization, which can be very useful. I just purchased the Sigma 70-200 and really wished I had the stabilization. Also the D3100 or D5100 dont have built in focus motors, so that will limit what lenses you will use if you want autofocus.

I have the D5100 and my brother has the D3100. I'd spend the few extra $$$ and go with the 5100. He's going back and forth on selling his and going up to the D5100. I also let him borrow my Sigma 18-250mm with the Optical Stabilization (OS) and now that's on his Christmas list :lmao:
