Thoughts on the Anaheim Marriott?

I would love to hear your thoughts and reviews of the Anaheim Marriott. I just scored an incredibly low rate there for 5 nights over spring break. I have elite status with Marriott so we should have access to the concierge lounge for breakfast and evening snacks, but I'm a little concerned about the size of the rooms. I booked a king and have requested a rollaway in the room for DS, 13. I'm hoping we won't feel super crowded.

How are the pool and whirlpool? The photos look great but I know they can be deceiving. I'm wondering if the pool is heated and how large it really is.

Any tips on a really great room, certain tower, or location I should request?

We've stayed at the Courtyard just around the corner a few times and really like it. We also like the location and the availability of multiple ART routes near the convention center. I know that I can trust the opinions on the DisBoards and can't wait to hear your thoughts!

I will be staying at the Anaheim Marriott on Dec 15-19th with my husband and would happy to report back with photos for you. I am also a Marriott employee in the bay area so I understand wanting to be comfortable and wanting the most out of your stay. I do know that in years past , many friends stayed there for conventions of all types from all seasons and enjoyed their stays. It never hurts to call the hotel directly and also confirm any questions , I just had to myself and they were very accommodating and know they would want to make one of our Elite guests stay as comfortable and accommodating as possible also.

I am a shutterbug so I will be sure to take photos and report back. I always refer my guests to book the room if possible because you can always cancel. I hope this helps ! :)

Oh, Astylla, that is so generous of you and I'm thrilled that you're willing to take some photos and report back! I can hardly wait! It's also great to hear that your friends have enjoyed their stays. I hope you have a magical visit to Disneyland and will be looking forward to hearing all about your trip and the hotel. :)

Thank you very much and again I am happy to do so ! 5 more days..yay!

We've stayed there several times and had great experiences each time. I recommend requesting the main tower with a fireworks view room. The breakfast buffet is pricey but really great. We only tried it because it was included in a package we purchased. Parking just went way up... $24 per night, I think. Not sure if you'll have a car or not. We have always been impressed with the hotel staff. Nice and clean hotel. The pool is fairly large and heated, though not warm enough for us Arizona wimps! How tub was warm enough to let our DD age 3 in for a while. ART was fine. If you get a fireworks view room, you should be able to look out your window to see if a shuttle is just pulling in or out. Also, you can hop on the ART shuttle to the Hilton just across the driveway. It's like having 2 bus options, which is nice, especially during a busier time like spring break. My dad got a king room once. It was at the end of the hall and not fireworks view, but it was plenty large, though it may have been an "odd" room being on the end of the building. I think you'll really enjoy your stay. Have fun!

Astylla, I will also be looking forward to your report. We will be staying at the Marriott starting December 21 for 5 nights. I am a gold member, so we will also have concierge lounge access as well.

We are splurging on this trip and booked two rooms...one for dh and I and one for our three teens. I just couldn't imagine us all squished in one room!

Marciemouse, I appreciate all the helpful tips you shared. We won't have a car so we won't have to worry about the parking fee. I think I'll give them a call after the holidays to put in my special room requests. I hope the pool is warm enough for us. We really like to relax at the pool area after walking around all day in the parks.

Julie, have a great time on your trip! You'll have to let me know what you think about the rooms and concierge lounge.

The Marriott is nice. I stayed there last June and prefer it over the adjacent Hilton. The rooms are pretty spacious and have a coffee maker in them. However, the little cafe and pizza restaurant are a bit pricey so I'd go to one of the surrounding restaurants for your meals.

The Anaheim Marriott is a very nice hotel and a good location. It is heavily dependent on bookings from the Anaheim Convention Center so when there isn't a convention, they drop rates very low. Ditto for the Anaheim Hilton across the street.

The pool is really nice, it is almost an "indoor/outdoor" pool since part of the pool is covered by a roof. If JW's Steakhouse is open, it is one of the better steaks in Anaheim, but it isn't open every day for dinner.

Thanks so much for your thoughts on the hotel and dining options! I really appreciate everyone's input on the hotel. It looks like a good choice for us!

You may want to consider buying a Marriott Gift card under their promotion that ends Jan.7 & you can save an additional 10% off your hotel stay.
When you buy a card through the promotion, you can use the card anytime in the future as it never expires.
You save 10% because Marriott adds an additional 10% to the value of the card when you purchase it.
I got a $1,000 card for my upcoming trip to Anaheim which will knock another $100 off my hotel cost

Astylla,

You'll be at the Happiest Place on Earth in just a few hours! I just wanted to wish you the best trip ever! Enjoy!

LOL , not soon enough..we don't leave until Thursday morning but hopefully tonight's 3pm-11 work and tomorrow's 7am - 3pm work shift goes fast !

We stayed there in October after we ran out of points at the VGC, and were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it.

My mom is platinum Marriott (I'm only silver), so they gave us concierge even though she wasn't with us, which was really nice (though get there early if you can for the best picks, they refresh items but the second line items weren't as good ... ie. watermelon & strawberries for the first few rounds, regular melon/cantaloupe for the second round). The offerings at concierge lounge are both cold and hot appetizers (egg rolls, etc in the evening and eggs/bacon, etc in the morning). One of the better spreads I've seen in a concierge lounge (we'd stayed at the Vancouver airport Marriott 2 weeks prior and their concierge was kind of weak so it might have just been a comparison thing).

The rooms are decently sized, about the same as most airport Marriotts I've stayed at ... our room was 2 queens and we still were able to fit 2 large suitcases 2 small suitcases and some backpacks (we were towards the end of a several week/climate trip including a cruise, etc). We did not feel cramped after moving out of the 2 bedroom villa, though it was obviously much smaller.

Didn't hit the pool but DH liked the Starbucks downstairs. And the view of the fireworks from our room (I think it was floor 15?) was great, was very happy to be elite status for that since I think all the concierge rooms are the top two floors ... can't see the park since the Hilton is in the way, but the fireworks explode above it.

We only stayed two nights and took $$ for a cab ... planned on walking into the park and taking a cab back (for 3 ppl would have been the same price as ART), however we enjoyed the walk on the way in stopping at California Pizza Kitchen on the way in for spinach and artichoke dip and walked through Gardenwalk to end up almost at the front gate, then on the way back our feet weren't too tired so we walked back along the very nicely lit Harbor tree-lined sidewalk (we may also have been a bit tipsy so didn't notice our feet :rolleyes1). All in all it was a great stay. Would go there again when we run out of DVC points, particularly if the Fairfield Inn is a higher rate ... (I think FFI was running $130 for the nights we wanted whereas we booked the Marriott at $89 or so?). Or if we end up with any cat 1-5 certificates. Really wish we could use any of the cat 1-4s we get somewhere closer than the Townplace Suites by Angel stadium.

Have a great trip!

(And thanks PP for the Marriott GC tip ... will have to check that out!)

I have stayed at the Anaheim Marriott and thought it was generally a very nice hotel. However, I prefer the Marriott Suites for the much bigger rooms, competitive rates, and free parking. The Marriott Suites rooms are actual two-room suites with a front sitting room with desk, couch, chairs, and small refrigerator. There is a bedroom you can close off with a door and a bathroom. The Suites also has a Starbucks downstairs.

I think you said you didn't have a car, so probably the free parking doesn't mean much. But we usually do have a car and parking at the regular Marriott is $24 a night! :scared1:

Anyway, just my two cents. Have fun! :goodvibes

I definitely agree the parking charge is not fun to be paying for - so if it can be avoided all the better! Many full service hotels tend to charge on the higher side for things - such as parking and internet but may have more amenities that are important to the individual - such as concierge levels/lounge , full service restaurants on site , valet parking , etc. Definitely good to consider all options as stated above and I hope you find the best choice for you :)

taaren, thanks for your post and all the info on the concierge lounge and rooms. It sounds like you had a great time on your trip! I'm platinum, too, and am hoping for a nice room upgrade.

ArchOwl, I totally agree about paying for parking! It really irks me! My family and I also prefer suite hotels and I've considered the Marriott Suites several times. Honestly, we really like this location because you actually have access to three different ART shuttle routes within a few hundred feet of each other. It's really convenient. That being said, I was able to book this room for $65 per night (that will probably never happen again) so we're going to give it a try.

You might consider one night with the Disney package. The rate is higher (around $200) but if you have any Marriott points or gift cards it could be a good deal. It includes free parking and you get a $100 Disney gift card. You can combine it with the regular rate for the rest of your nights or you can do more nights and get $100 gc for each one.

Thanks, DizMe. I've seen this rate before and have always wished I could book it. The problem is that it never seems to be available when we're going to be there. Hopefully someone else will be able to make use of it. I believe the Marriott rate code is THM.

I know! I've been having the same problem! I have enough MyPoints to get a gift card that would cover a night at the package rate so I'd get a free night and a $100 Disney card to boot. BUT... I'll be there during the music convention in January so not only is there no package but the room rates shot up to $349!! Luckily, I booked PPH a couple of weeks ago for $140. It's gone up now, too, but not that much!
