Thoughts on Teppan Edo in Japan in EPCOT??

We were there this last March for the 1st time and really enjoyed it. Everything is cooked in front of you (except desert) and it was a lot of food, but very good. I had steak/shrimp and my wife had chicken/steak. My kids both liked it as well. I'd put it on our "list" of places we would go back to.

We really enjoy it. The food is fresh, the portions are large and it's a fantastic value both on the DDP and OOP. Yes, it's a normal, run-of-the-mill hibachi, but we've always really enjoyed the food. We won't be returning this year, as we made a pact that we won't dine at any restaurant more than 2 consecutive times.

My advise is that if you go to good hibachi restaurants at home, there are better choices in Epcot. If you don't have access to something like this normally, go and enjoy.

We have a ton of good hibachi restaurants here that are cheaper, so Teppan Edo hasn't been a repeat for us. The main reason is that we missed the fire tricks. I will also admit that while I recognize that fried rice is not Japanese, if I am going to splurge and eat rice at all (I normally don't - I eat lower carb), I want to splurge on fried rice.

My family loves Teppan Edo! It's the only TS restaurant that my kids have requested to eat at more than once.

Can't you say this about any restaurant in Epcot or WDW for that matter? I can find better and cheaper seafood places than Coral Reef at home. I can find better and cheaper authentic Mexican places at home, I can also find better and cheaper Italian places at home too. If that is your criteria (cheaper and better) you would be hard pressed to find a place to eat at. Everything at Disney is unique in its own way, which I think is what most people are looking for or want.

For me, it is about having experiences that I don't have at home or that in some way elevates my normal experience. I don't want to go anywhere that is going to disappoint me in comparison to my normal experience - I'm perfectly happy with quick service if a table service meal won't be "special" for me. I would still go to Coral Reef, despite having great seafood options regularly, because the aquarium is fun and unique. If I normally ate really great Italian at home (which I don't), I would not to go to Tony's UNLESS I really loved the Lady and the Tramp theme (whichI do). I'm more interested in the theming and experience when I am in Disney, and the experience of Teppan Edo isn't as good as my normal experience. For a lot of people, Teppan Edo is a unique experience, and I would (and did) recommend it for those people.

Well, I don't have any restaurants at home where Cinderella or Mickey Mouse show up at my table ;)
And no, I can't find better of most all other categories except for Hibachi. Ours here is identical, outside of what you see looking outside the window. There is nothing special about Teppan Edo, even it's theme is the same as we have here at home. Even Via Napoli offers something our pizza places here don't. As does San Angel. Marakesh can't be duplicated here at my area at all. I don't often eat at Lotus House because it is too similar to what we have at home. Coral Reef I also skip. We've got Aquarium Cafe near us, same exact setting. So makes that one skipable.

I really enjoyed Teppan Edo. It was on the expensive side, but it was a great evening. I think one thing that you should consider is that you will be seating with other parties, unless you are a party of ten. So if you are not comfortable with that, be forewarned.
Party of 8. (Tables only seat 8).
Do they have any tables where you can sit away from the grill? DD LOVES Japanese food but won't sit by the grill.

No, they do not. But if she would sit at one of the heads of the table she's not "that" close to the grill.

NOTE1: Hibachi tables seat eight (two each side, four front side). Sometimes they can
squeeze nine if several kids. Depending upon the chef it can be exciting and entertaining,
or it can be almost dull. Quality is below a Benihana, but above average for Japanese
cuisine. It should be noted that medium or large appetites will want to stop before or
after dinner for a snack, as portions are medium-sized and big eaters will leave hungry.
.
NOTE2: Just to answer a common question, they only serve white rice, as fried rice is Chinese.
But, they have just started serving "beef rice", which is white rice with beef juice.

NOTE3: We think the Benihana at the Hilton in the Downtown Disney Hotel District is better
than Teppan Edo for both food quality and "the show" the chef puts on is far better.

I really enjoyed the food and thought the quality and the price were good. The scallops are amazing in that white dipping sauce that they provide!!

Thanks for the tip on the Hilton. We have TE booked but trying to drop a couple of ts( free dining and not using enough qs or snacks) though Epcot Ws would be a good venue for using credits!

We have better ones around us, but it's fun and the portions are fairly large. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again, but it's not a priority for us.

Food is good, show is good, but I did not like sitting with strangers. They were perfectly nice, but it just isn't my thing.

This is the worst teppanyaki restaurant I have ever set foot in and I gave it two chances. The overpriced menu lacks imagination, the food is just horribly salty and there is no "show" like other places I have been to. I happen to love the show and it's a big reason why my kids like to have teppanyaki. I have had real sukiyaki in Tokyo and the stuff they serve at Teppan Edo is not even similar. Now that I have given my scathing thoughts.....

If you don't have anything remotely similar near you, try it. I have family and friends that have nothing more than a McDonald's and an Applebees near them so going to Teppan Edo would knock their socks off.

This is hands down my #1 favorite restaurant on property and I have A LOT of favorites. The food is great, the show is really fun (we have been twice and had great chefs both times) and you don't have to interact with the people at your table if you don't want to. We have always had great people at our table with us and it had added to the experience.

This has always been a must-do for us - even for my dad who is an old-fashioned "meat and potatoes" guy. I was a little disappointed on our last trip that they switched from steamed white rice to brown rice, and from udon noodles to something that looked more like spaghetti - but it was still yummy. I always get the chicken and steak combo since I can never decide.

We went for the first time recently becuse local hibachi offers much better quality and value.

When we were done, we walked out looked and spaceship earth and both said, we should've done this sooner. The experience was so cool. Sat with a British family that were so fun. Would highly recommend it.
