Thoughts on refurbished Autopia?

As crew chief Doc Hudson says in a far Far FARRRRR superior car-based ride: "Shiny paint don't win a race". C'mon, Disney. You're DISNEY! Do something better than just a bunch of old cars with Honda lawnmower engines on a track.

Cars and other parts had a shiny new paint job. Also a new sign that looks nice enough. I dont remember smelling the fumes like I usually do so thats a plus. It was on and off during the day.
I thought it wasn't near as fumey as it used to be. I didn't think I'd enjoy it, but I did!

Like others have mentioned, I think Autopia is still around for the nostalgia factor, not because it's comparable to Radiator Springs Racers, lol.
Yeah, and because kids get to drive, which is a blast for them. Plus Autopia's height restriction (32") is a lot shorter than RRS (40") so much smaller kids can ride it. The girls were both really looking forward to doing it on our April trip, but the refurb was extended past our trip.

They both did RRS for the first time (DD2 being just tall enough to meet the height requirement) and weren't impressed. It was ok, but not the kind of experience we were looking for. The now 11-year-old said she preferred Autopia.

Disagree that they need to do anything better!

Though if they had rethemed it to RSR, instead of making RSR, I would be happier (and I like RSR but would have liked my idea more). Perhaps let the cars go a teensy bit faster at certain points? Have the pretty stuff?

Nah, I love the little overpasses and all the little things you drive by/through on it. Makes me feel like I'm 6 again, at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, before I realized that my dad was a jerk... I don't need things themed to *movies*. I like that they still have the occasional thing that's just its own thing.

I can't stand the ride, but I loved it as a kid and now my kids love it too. Feels and smells like your driving a lawn mower!

Yup! That's the whole point! It's not supposed to be a quiet, smooth ride. If I wanted that, I'd just stay in my regular car. Autopia is supposed to be quirky, noisy, rumbly and jerky. Otherwise, it wouldn't be much fun.

Just rode it a few times, the cars look all nice and shiny on the outside, the smell of gas is slightly less, the inside feels about the the same as before and I don't think the steering wheels have changed. A touch smoother, some new graphics in the waiting area, less engine fails than I remember, but overall pretty much the same.
