Thoughts on personal cups/bottles onboard now....will they be allowed? -Calling all Yeti fans!

What they need is a disposable piece to attach to the spout to go between your cup and the spout. Everyone takes a new one, whether you're just getting a little cup or you have a reusable bottle. Sort of like those covers for the ear thermometers, only for drink spouts.

About water, I saw on different videos about DCL crew rooms that they have multiple bottled water in their tiny rooms. That makes me wonder if it’s even a good idea to directly drink tap water on the ship.
The tap water on the ship is the same water that's served in the dining rooms, used to make ice, and to prepare meals.

I look forward to having a definitive answer on this because, while I really hate to do it, I will buy a couple of cases of water and chill it in my room if there is no refill of personal cups. I don't know which is worse, throwing away multiple disposable cups or recycling the plastic water bottles? I drink around 80 oz. of water per day...

Why not use a reusable bottle or two and fill with the water from the tap in your room? You can put them in the fridge in the room to make them colder, if you wish.

A very tiny percentage of plastic water bottles are recycled. The vast majority end up in landfills or incinerated. China and other Asian countries stopped taking them several years ago. Recyclable does not mean recycled.

Refilling used personal cups at the drink stations directly instead of using the provided cups? Please don't. I've sailed with Disney for 20 years and I've seen it all. Yes they will close the drink stations at night and tell you to order drinks from room service. Buffets will be served by cast members etc... Please see sign posted at the drink stations. I'd like to sail again.

Another option:

We have some of these. Fill them up, put them in the fridge to chill, and then fill our refllable mugs from them. Works great in hotels and on the ship.

I've typically filled my bottle(s) in my room, at night, and put them in the fridge. That seems to make it cold.

I'd guess your bottles arent very well insulated then. I have the same experience with my Tervis but the water from Manna bottles will actually be closer to room temp rather than chilled even if in the fridge all night. On the flip side of that, the Tervis will warm up much faster than the Manna bottles.

Fill with tap water then request a cup(s) of ice.

Have you tried this? On the slim neck bottles where you drink from the neck, this is pretty impossible unless you have a cup full of broken ice cubes. And even then you are picking them out of the cup and adding them to the bottle one at a time unless you want ice to go everywhere. Or maybe you are way more skilled than I. LOL

I like this or even disposable funnels. Someone taked of making his own by cutting the tip off of snow cone cones.

I like this but I am not thrilled at the idea of spending an extra $20 pp on vessels for cool water which I kinda feel should be one of the basic necessities supplied (plus one more thing to pack). Still, not a bad plan B. Thanks!

Yes, we just fold the edge of the cup to make it more like pouring from a carton and tip them slowly - they can slip into a narrow neck that way.

Our necks are just barely larger than most cubes that come out of commercial machines and if there are any extra bits frozen on to the ice cube it wont fit unless positioned exactly correctly and/ or pushed through the neck. So not at all conducive to pouring from a cup. I figured these style water bottles were fairly standard in that attribute but it sounds like yours is wider. Do you know the maker of yours? And do you recall how long your beverages stay at desired temps? Is drinking from the larger opening awkward? Might be worth looking into new bottles if its a better solution.

Oh, that makes sense! My husband recently got a hydroflask and it is like that. It was an impulse purchase at work because he didn't have a bottle on him and now that I look at it the mouth is REALLY narrow!! Our other bottles aren't like that - they're all wide mouth.

Mostly we have Camelbak and Contigo bottles but I haven't really timed them. We share a bottle when traveling so we go through cold water pretty fast; we're only good for at most a couple hours' test. I'm interested in trying out Takeya next. My favorite one for time kept at temp is an off brand one I bought while we were in China... it keeps my hot tea so hot for so long I've actually burned my tongue hours later, even in the middle of winter in Iceland. o_O

Just looked those up, thanks! The ones with the screw off tops are great for refilling. Heck the part you drink from isnt even on when refilling so that are more sanitary in that respect in addition to being easier to refill. We have some Tervis like that. The problem with the Tervis when we are traveling is that they dont fit in our backpack water pockets, thats the whole reason we switched to the Manna bottles (we were gifted them so had them on hand anyway but didnt really use them prior to this). I know Costco carries Contigo and they are usually so good with returns. I might grab a set and see if they fit in our backpack pockets. Is keeping the straw and connector sanitary an issue? My concern might be a longer vacation where I wouldnt have access to my normal cleaning supplies (do you see that being an issue if you havent personally experienced)?

Just for reference the Mannas will keep ice for at least 24 hours even in warmer environments. We normally wouldnt even ice already cool water that was going into our Mannas, that would just be for if we were filling the Mannas in room with our sink and wanted to cool that water. But I agree, we almost always drink all the water before temperature is an issue.

I imagine the crew won't be allowed to handle personal cups/bottles due to cross contamination.
