Thoughts on our recent trip -- May 16-26

Thanks for a great review! So glad you had an enjoyable trip! We aren't staying at Yacht Club, but will be right next door at Beach Club for the first time in September - we are VERY excited for Stormalong Bay and the short walk to Epcot.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did the Yacht Club. We ventured over to the Beach Club on several occasions and were just as impressed with it as we were with Yacht Club. In fact, I found the atmosphere to be even more relaxing at BC. The advantage of the Yacht Club for us is that DW requires a balcony or patio.

Thanks for your review! Sounds like you had a great time. :) We love staying at the Epcot resorts - we've stayed at both Y & B clubs, and the Swan/Dolphin resorts. LOVE the proximity to both parks.

Great trip summary! We are like you, we go once every three to four years but stay longer. With your family size, you might want to consider renting DVC next time. It makes the experience even more relaxed and enjoyable IMO.

We'll have to look into that. We have talked about staying at AKL on a future trip, and I think the only way to get a room for five is at AKV. BCV looked pretty nice too, and I did see the great review from the DIS Unplugged crew when they did the 7 in 7 series.

Thanks for the review! How did you find dining with the milk allergy? My daughter is severely allergic to dairy, egg, and wheat. Any info is appreciated :)

All of the Disney restaurants had allergy information and/or special allergy-friendly menus. For buffets the chef came to our table and led us through the buffet to specifically indicate which items to avoid. I think Disney handles allergies pretty well. DW is also allergic to seafood (shellfish or otherwise), and always asks to ensure other foods aren't cross-contaminated, either in preparation or in cooking surfaces. The regular restaurants are good about this, but the F&G food kiosks are mixed, but that isn't a surprise because they are temporary operations. Some restaurant menus, not all, on MDE show allergy-friendly options.

Best advice is to let your server know and talk to the chef if there is any doubt. We did not experience any allergic reactions during our stay.

loved your post , the only negative is you only go back every 3 yrs, that trip sound like a once a yr trip to me.

I rent DVC points all the time and have never had any problems. I've stayed in BCV, BWV, and AKV. My favorite is BWV for the proximity to Epcot and DHS followed closely by AKV for the animals you can see from your balcony. BCV is also great because it's close to Epcot and DHS, but the rooms at BWV are a little larger. If I recall correctly, the only DVC resorts where a studio sleeps 5 are BWV and WLV. You can easily check the floorplans for all the villas to see which ones sleep 5. Using DVC points, I've stayed at BCV twice, AKL twice, and BWV once for about the same cost as a moderate resort.

AKL is absolutely gorgeous and I love staying there. The biggest downside to AKL is that you have to take buses everywhere. If not for that, AKL would be my favorite resort.

I was at WDW at the same time as you were. My first night there, I got caught in the 'monsoon'. Nothing like walking through ankle deep water at times. :jumping1:

If you're talking about 5/19, that's the day we got stuck on the friendship boat after leaving DHS. We ended up driving off site for dinner that night. We had just made it out of MK ahead of the rain two days before. We were lucky.

Um, I hope you meant that you got "stuck" on the friendship boat.

I thought it was the 17th but I could be wrong. I was at Epcot at the Land around 8pm. Walking the entire length of Epcot to BWV in pouring rain is not something I'd like to do again. I was going to use the boat but it wasn't going anywhere because of lightning. I figured I was already drenched so I'd just keep walking. It wasn't until I was halfway to the resort that I realized I had actually become a human lightning rod. Not the brightest choice I've ever made. ;)

My characterization may be overly harsh for effect, but not by a lot. The main problem was the service. It was as if they took random CMs and told them to prepare lunch in a kitchen they had never seen. It took us 25 minutes to get our food even though we were the third family in line when they opened at 11 am. Everything was cold when we got it, I believe because they were holding everything until someone tracked down the pre-packaged Asian Salad I ordered. DD10 ordered the New York Strip Steak, which I've previously likened to the used sole from a longshoreman's boot. She sawed away for awhile with a plastic knife before giving up. It's possible the burger and chicken nuggets would have been fine if they were served hot, but they weren't. We didn't eat at CHH, so I can't compare the two. I just know we won't be going back to ABC.

Ah, okay. That's unfortunate that the service was so bad. We must have caught them on a good day.
